Chapter Text
Hundreds of papers were at my lunch table. Ok, Hundreds is a bit of an exaggeration, but still.
I was doing my class work during lunch, which is something I did about everyday. This day was nothing new. Most of it was math worksheets.
I didn’t mind sitting by myself. Would I like to sit with someone? Yes, but I don’t really have the time or energy to go out and make a friend.
People knew who I was. They knew my name, they knew that I tried hard to make good grades in school. That was the reason why most people talked to me.
“Hey Soda,” A voice said. It startled me.
I looked to my left and saw Steve Randle sitting next to me. Was I hallucinating? Why would the Steve Randle sit by me.
“Hi Steve, is there something I can do for you?” I asked, returning to my work.
“Yeah, you can put your work away and eat.” He replied, picking up the apple on my plate and taking a bite. “See, I already started for you.”
I stared at him. Was this some sort of mean joke? I was so confused.
“Um, look Steve, if this is some joke then it’s very funny,” I said sarcastically.
“it’s not a joke. You don’t have any friends, and I’m gonna change that,” he said, looking me dead in the eyes.
“interesting,” I pondered “Alright. Well my name is Sodapop Curtis.”
“Yeah, I knew” He smiled “My name is Steve Randle.”
