The Final Control Room

Summary:

This was an English project I wrote, so I decided to post it because WHY NOT?

(It’s a re-write of a stream that happened last year. Aka when Eret betrayed L’Manburg.)

Work Text:

He didn’t sign up for this. He didn’t sign up to be currently running for his life, all because he wanted independence for his country he created with his older brother. But look at them now, everyone he cares about dashes through the dark blackstone hallways, lit torches held tightly in their hands.

“Just a few more minutes and we should be there!” Eret calls from the very front of the group.

Everyone in front of him starts slowing their pace, the sound of footsteps slowly fading as they start to walk. His heartbeat, once going lighting speed, now takes steady beats as he slows. There’s a ghost feeling of fire burning his skin, looking down, all he can see is charred and blistered skin, all caused by explosions, on his arms. There’s a large slash from a pure steel blade at his side, but it’s covered by his uniform. He grimaces at his appearance, ‘Geez, I look horrible...’ Tommy thinks to himself bitterly, as he runs his bloodied fingers through his greasy blond hair.

Finally, they all arrive to their destination. Eret’s bunker. A medium sized room with cracked blackstone walls. Five chests line these said walls, each of their names printed onto the oak containers. Four old and dull lanterns are hung from every corner, producing barely any light. There’s a single wooden button sitting in the middle of the chamber that weirdly does unnoticed by everyone. Everyone but Tommy and apparently Eret, who is eyeing from the other end of the room. While Fundy, Wilbur, Niki, and Tubbo look around the room in awe, Tommy cautiously approaches the button, thinking it’s just a miss placed object, and presses it. Eret seems to have noticed his actions and grins. A sharp and twisted grin. As Tommy backs away, Eret steps forward. The sound of pistons shifting behind the wall catches his attention. Eret now stands in front of the button, they remove their dark tinted glasses, revealing pure crystal white eyes. They let out a low chuckle, catching everyone in the room’s attention.

Everyone stares wide-eyed as Eret hovers their hand over top of the wooden object. “It was never meant to be,” they say, while pressing the button. A blanket of silence passes over the room, before it’s broken by the sound of stones moving against each other. The floor rumbles as stray rocks start to vibrate. The movement stops abruptly, revealing a doorway, and everyone breaths out a sigh. The relief is suddenly broken as four armored figures with glimmering weapons step into the room from the newly formed passageway.

All he could hear was a body from one of his fellow soldiers drop to the floor. His eyes start to blur with tears of fear, rage, and betrayal. Most of his thoughts are blocked out by the static noise forming in his ears, getting louder and more violent by the minute. Someone he trusted, cared for, loved, betrayed him. They betrayed their country, hell, they even betrayed their family. The very same Eret who once helped build the black and yellow walls of their great nation, was allied with their greatest enemy. ‘How long?’ he thinks to himself. How long have they been faking being their friend, their family? A sharp, sizzling pain dragged him out of thought. A sleek, glimmering iron sword, covered in someone else’s blood, pierced right through stomach. “It was so easy!” a booming voice laughs distantly, proceeding to shove the sword deeper and deeper into him. Looking up through half lidded eyes, he’s faced with a simple smiley face mask. He then locks eyes with the two lifeless black dots of the false face. Even through the agonizing pain, he smiles. He’s free. Free from running, from hiding. His vision fades as his breath shallows...

They’re finally, after months of war, free.

But sometimes even death doesn’t last forever…
