Work Text:
Cisco Ramon had always done things early. He was the smartest in his grade, and the one above. He graduated high school and college early. He even landed himself a job at S.T.A.R Labs that most people with years would struggle to get.
He married young, at only twenty-two years old, and welcomed his daughter, Eleanor, not even two years later. His family, his two girls, were one of Cisco's greatest achievements and the one he was most proud of.
He did everything young, so it was only fitting that he lost his wife, his (Y/N) young too.
She had died in battle. As a meta herself, she had found a life in helping team flash but when Savitar came, so did her death.
Initially, team Flash and thought her powers were to turn her body into nothingness so she could turn invisible and walk through walls, almost as if she was a phantom (which lead to Cisco giving that to her has her “hero name”)
But now it was something more. Since her death, she had found out that she was what she was called: a phantom.
She watched as everyone trudged through their days, watching as Barry and Iris planned ahead to stop Savitar, Joe as he solved cases and crimes with the CCPD, Caitlin as she worked on a formula to try and subdue Killer Frost. (Y/N) watched as Eleanor cried out for her mother of a night time, not knowing why she wasn’t coming back and she watched as Cisco was powerless to stop his daughter's cries.
Cisco didn’t sleep much anymore. It was killing him: the loss of his wife, Savitar’s rise in power and the future with Iris. It was all too much and (Y/N) could see that he was slowly breaking. He tried to keep up a front when with Elenor but when he was alone, he cried, letting himself grieve.
As he cried, (Y/N) reached out to place a hand on him as she always did when he got like this. It always went through him though as her death had brought the ability of not having a physical form. But this time was different, this time he felt her.
“Cisco?” (Y/N) softly said when she realised what had happened.
Cisco’s eyes snapped up, meeting (Y/N)’s. Instantly he recoiled back, muttering “You’re not real. You’re not real.”
“Cisco, please.”
“You’re not real. My (Y/N) isn’t here, she’s-“
“Dead” she finished, taking a step towards her husband. “I’m dead. And I don’t know how you can see me or why. But please believe me.”
He laughed. “This is some sort of sick joke, isn’t it? So what are you, huh? A new bad-guys illusion? From a different universe? Me going mad? Which one is it?”
(Y/N) looked down at her feet. She knew he was bad but she could’ve figured out what was going on inside his head. He truly looked like he couldn’t lose anything else.
“I’m me, Cisco.”
“How can I believe you? My wife is dead and you’re not her.”
“You can’t, you’ll have to trust me.” (Y/N) moved away from the bed where Cisco still sat and moved across the vanity, looking at her makeup where she had left it before she went to confront Savitar. “I remember when you brought this. You were mad at my father for offering to build it, saying that you could yourself.”
“That means nothing. You could be from another universe still.”
“There’s a sticker on the back of the right leg of the table. You couldn’t get it off.”
Cisco just watched as the woman who looked like his wife and spoke like his wife and moved like his wife admired the vanity. He wouldn’t allow himself the thought that it was her.
“Why are you here?”
“I don’t know how to leave.” (Y/N) answered simply. “I think it’s my powers. It could have been more than walking through walls. I think I was a ghost before I died.”
“A phantom.” At this, they both laughed and for a moment Cisco forget all the pain because it was like nothing had happened and that (Y/N) was here with him again.
“I’ve been watching you. That sounds creepy. I mean like I’ve been watching over you, and Elenor. I’ve missed you.”
“I’ve missed you too but you’re not real.”
“I don’t think I’m real either. But I want to be”
Cisco stood and moved towards his wife, going to take her hand in his. But he was just touching air, and when he went to ask why he couldn’t feel her, she was gone from his life and once again he was stuck without the love of his life.
