Work Text:

Tara was there. All the others were already gone, but she was still there. Blood leaked through a wound in her stomach. Her body was pumped with adrenaline to keep her awake. She looked at the horrid scene before her. Dipper, her friend, fighting with Bill, her greatest foe. Her friend was so desperate. He screamed and suffered. His clothes were all torn up and bloodied. From what she could see, he was losing. Greatly.

She wanted to help him, so she rushed towards him and used the last bits of her magic. If she could, she would have tried some more powerful spell, but that would have killed her for sure. Getting that demon out of Dipper’s head was her priority.

But something different happened. Something that she could explain. There was a flash of light and she was somewhere else.

It was different from the real world. Grey, gloomy and sad Everything was so full of different things and... memories. If everything was normal, she would see her friend there, or at least… Bill. . But there was no one there. Only her.

"Dipper!!" she yelled. Her voice echoed. But that was a mistake. The ground under her feet crumbled and she fell into nothingness.
------
Dipper didn't know what to do. The plan he had in mind failed. Bill was in his head and he was winning. The demon got stronger and trickier from the last time and Dipper didn't have a chance to beat him now Especially on his own. He traded his mind, for the safety of his family. Did he regret it? No, of course not. His friends and family were safe and that was all that mattered to him. And he had to fight now to protect them. from the oncoming hell.

"Give up Pinetree. You can't win this fight, you know you can't. I'm the all powerful demon Bill Cipher. A god. And you are just a child." Bill said.
Dipper was on his knees. Bill was right, he couldn’t win this."I know. But I can at least weaken you, so that the others can defeat you once and for all!" he shouted at him. At least he could do one last good thing.

He tried to stand up, but he was too tired. Then a familiar voice reached him. He looked above him to see his friend fall through.
Bill chuckled. "Ah, if that isn't one of your friends? Such a pathetic try."

Tara looked at her friend. She was relieved to see him still alive. Even if this was only in his mind, it was still his soul that fought that demon. A place he had a slight chance to weaken the demon.

"Well, hello little witch, how was the flight?"

"You shut up, you dorito, I will end you!" she yelled at him. She looked next to her a grabed Dipper's hand. She wouldn’t lose him now.

"You shouldn't be here, Bill promised to send you all away." Dipper said.

"He said all humans. I'm only half human." she said to Dipper with sadness in her voice. She hated seeing him this broken.

"Oh that's really offensive. But you can't defeat me, I'm immor-." but he was cut off when a fireball struck his hat. He quickly took it off and looked at it. Disappointed.“You little-, you think THAT can stop me?” he sounded really offended, like they thought that he was weaker than he really was.

But harming him wasn’t the intention. It was a distraction. During that time Bill was ranting and looking at his destroyed attire, Tara showed Dipper something. A red gem.
“What is that?” Dipper whispered.

“A thing that can kill Bill. Although it’s dangerous. It will-” she gulped” it will kill all of us.”

Dipper didn’t hesitate. He grabbed the gem from his friend's hands.”How do you use it?”
------
The rest happened so fast. Blood stained the gem. A red glow. Screams. Blood and so many screams, like hundreds of souls being tormented.
-------
There was a giant explosion. Everyone in Gravity Falls saw it. In the blink of an eye, the sky turned bright white. Mabel, Stan and Ford were safe, far enough to only feel a slight warmth. The last thing they saw was Dipper making a deal with Bill and they were sent away. Everyone who was trapped in the fearamid was safe, far away. Except for Dipper and Tara.

Mabel cried over her brother and her friend. It was hard for her to accept the betrayal of her own twin and the realization when Tara wasn’t by her side anymore. They promised to keep each other safe. But it was over.
------
The plan worked. Partially. If the gem wasn’t cursed, maybe they would have just died human.
-----
Dipper suddenly woke up. First thing he saw was the bright blue sky above him. It felt nice to see it after such a long time. Yet something was wrong.
He didn’t feel his heart beat.

He immediately shot up to his feet, however an unfamiliar weight on his back made him lose his balance.
Fuck this is wrong, what’s happening, he thought.

He touched his back and looked in horror at what he found. Wings. Pitch black wings. They were quite small, but they were there. How did he not notice it earlier?
His body was numb and he felt that something more was off. He touched his face. He noticed some kind of scales at his temples. That his teeth were sharper, and ears were pointier.

"Oh shit. What happened to me?" he freaked out. He tried to remember what happened. Bill. Tara. Bright light.
Wait. He thought. "Tara! Where are you!?" he screamed into the woods.

There was no response.

Oh no. He started breathing fast. But there wasn’t the feeling of anxiety filling up his chest, so it didn’t help. "I need to calm down."

He cleared his mind. Thinking about this in the worst light wouldn’t help him in any way. Finding Tara, that was his goal. He stood up again, taking in account the extra weight on his back now.

And he started walking.
-----
It might have been a few minutes before he almost jumped out of his skin. He found his friend tangled in a bush, unable to get out. She coincidentally spoke when he was lost deep in thought, not paying attention to his surroundings. He helped her out as fast as he could.

His friend had similar changes like him, except her wings were grey and bigger. And her eyes. They were pitch black with silver slits.

"Thank you." she said. Her voice was a bit cracked.

"Tara, oh my gosh, I'm so glad that you're alive." he hugged her tightly. "I thought you were dead."

"I thought the same about you." she replied.

Dipper felt something wet on his shoulder. He pulled his friend away from himself. Tara was crying. Silver tears streamed down her face.

“I’m sorry” she spoke lightly. “It’s my fault we ended up like this.”
