Work Text:
McDonalds was certainly not Janus’ idea of an ideal date place.
Still, his boyfriend Remus had wanted to bring him here and despite having only been dating a few weeks he was finding it increasingly difficult to say no when Remus looked at him with that lovely sparkle in his eyes. So here he was. Sitting at the cleanest table he could find and waiting for his boyfriend to return with their order, absentmindedly watching the children running around the play place through the large glass window to his right.
He tries to cover the way he startles when a tray is slammed onto the table. Looking back, he meets the grinning face of his boyfriend. “Lunch is served.” Remus announces with a flourish as he sits down across from Janus. Janus looks at the tray in front of him and his heart drops.
Sitting on the tray is a big mac combo meal and a happy meal.
Now Janus is well aware he is short. And this is far from the first time someone has made a joke of this nature about it. However, this is supposed to be a date and he really thought Remus was different.
He takes the meal and attempts to convey only his annoyance and not his hurt in his voice. “Haha, very funny.” He opens the meal up, frowning at the chicken nuggets and apple slices. He opens his mouth to speak again when Remus beats him to it. “What the fuck are you doing?”
Janus pauses. “Excuse me?” Remus pins him with a look he can't quite decipher, which isn’t bothersome in the slightest. “You asked for a big mac with large fries and iced tea and that is what I got you. If you wanted a happy meal you should have asked for one.” Remus snatches the meal from him unceremoniously. Janus stares as he takes the nuggets, small fry, and apple slices out and sticks a straw in his chocolate milk, blowing a few milk bubbles before taking a sip.
Remus looks up at him. “What? You had your chance. You chose that.” Remus motions to the combo still on the tray. “Get your own apple slices and plastic mini barbie, bitch.” Any harshness the words may have had is doused by the affection in Remus’ tone and eyes. That and him offering Janus one of his apple slices.
Janus takes it and thanks him as he sets up his own meal with a smile, thinking to himself that he has definitely found a keeper.
