“Taako,” Kravitz said, and it came out more as “Taoo”. Lup stifled her laughter against her front in the front seat. Taako kicked the back of her seat and turned towards Kravitz, who seemed to have woken up again. His mouth was still full of gauze from the dentist appointment. They had removed his wisdom teeth. Taako was living.
“Yeah, babe?” Taako said. Kravitz blinked owlishly up at him, a smile spreading across his face.
“You’re so pw- preet- pret-”
“Pretty?” Taako guessed and Kravitz nodded, leaning towards him. Taako let him let his head against his shoulder.
“Uh-huh,” Kravitz said. “And n-ice.”
“Nice, huh?” Lup said from the front, turning to see them. Barry swatted her out of his space, obviously trying very hard to ignore the noise as he drove. Taako saw her lift her phone and heard the tell-tale sound of her starting a video. When Kravitz lifted his head towards her, she pressed her lips together to try not to laugh.
“Luuhp,” Kravitz said. “You’re so preet- uguh, wha-”
“Pretty,” Taako supplied again.
“Yeah,” Kravitz said.
“What about Barry?” Lup asked, pointing towards Barry with one hand. Kravitz’s eyes light up. “Is he pretty too?”
“Yeah!” Kravitz repeated. There was another moment, where Kravitz leaned back in his seat, and Taako and Lup desperately struggled not to laugh at the dazed expression on his face. Taako saw him lift a hand up to his face, feeling his cheek.
“Don’t poke there, babe,” Taako said, leaning over to take Kravitz’s hands in his own. “You’ll move all the stuff around.”
“Wha happ-ened to me?” Kravitz asked seriously. “I ffffeel like… garbo.”
“We went and got your wisdom teeth removed, remember?” Taako said as Lup choked on her laughter. He kissed Kravitz’s forehead and when he pulled back, Kravitz looked horrified.
“My teethf?” he asked. “I need dhose to cwunch!”
“You’ll still be able to crunch in a bit, bones,” Taako said, chest aching in an effort not to laugh. “I promise.”
“But my teethf-”
“Shh,” Taako said. “If you keep talking they’ll come take more.”
“Nooo,” Kravitz whispered, tearing up. Lup lost her shit in the front seat.
