Work Text:
Perhaps it started the first time their eyes met, when Gojou looked at his eyes, which were as dark as the night was, and realized how long his eyelashes were. Shining, they fluttered and opened to reveal purple. Gojou was quite shocked, never having seen eyes of that color. Maybe that’s why he’d confused them with the same tone the night sky was. Unknowingly, he must have stared for too long, because Getou laughed and asked, “What, am I too beautiful for you to handle?”
Yes.
“No,” Gojou answered. “Was just thinking about how annoying you probably are.” He smirked, giving him a meaningful look. Getou not only understood, but threw his head backwards and laughed loudly -- a clear, melodic sound that Gojou didn’t know was going to be his favorite song from that time on.
“What a coincidence, I was thinking the same thing too.”

Gojou stood right by the ocean, clouds hiding the moon in the dark sky. The rays of moonlight that managed to escape reflected on the waves, making them sparkle, and Gojou thought, just as Getou was sparkling the day we met. Although it wasn’t just the day they met; he sparkled every day, and no one noticed he did. Except that was a lie. Gojou noticed.
He heard someone walking to him, feet stepping on the sand, which was now cold due to the night’s breeze. He didn’t tense up, nor did he turn around; he could recognize him by touch alone, if necessary, and sound too. Getou’s way of walking was too familiar to him now.
“Hey, Satoru,” his friend said. “What are you doing here all alone?”
“Nothing. Just -- thinking.”
“Wow, he thinks,” Getou mocked. “Aren’t you tired, having your Jujutsu technique active all the time?”
Gojou didn’t answer immediately. “Nah,” he said, and left it there. His friend raised a questioning eyebrow, but he didn’t return the glance. Getou sighed helplessly, not pushing the matter. Instead, he lifted a hand which was carrying a plastic bag.
“Wanna light some sparklers?”
That was the last thing Gojou expected him to say. He laughed. “Okay. Yeah, why not.” Getou smiled, and his heart made a backflip.
The sparklers lit up with a sizzling sound. Orange and yellow sparks danced through the air, golden light caressing their faces. It was as if they were in their own new world, the last two humans on Earth. After a while, Getou broke their comfortable silence.
“It’s beautiful.”
“Yeah,” Gojou said softly. He hadn’t spared a single glance to the sparklers. Getou shifted in response, and Gojou’s stomach sank; he hadn’t realized how long he’d been staring. He turned his face as his sparkler extinguished.
“You know--
“Where did you get the lighter from anyway?” Gojou cut off. He didn’t know what was going to be asked, but changed topics nevertheless. His gut told him he didn’t want to hear that question.
Getou just shrugged, not saying anything. Not because he was embarrassed, but because Gojou didn’t need him speaking to understand. He furrowed his brow.
“I didn’t know you smoked,” he said, harsher than he intended to.
“Well, it seems you don’t know shit about me,” Getou replied. That felt like a slap on his face.
“Ouch,” he whispered after a beat. His friend made a face.
“Sorry. Kinda snapped there.” An uncomfortable silence fell between them. After a while, Getou spoke again.
“It’s just… I don’t know what’s going on in your mind anymore.”
“Huh? What 's that?”
His friend sighed, rubbing his face. “I don’t know… Lately, you’ve been so… distant. You’re so far away from me -- hundreds of kilometers, maybe thousands of light years. You’re hiding something from me, Satoru.
“It looks like it’s a delicate and painful matter for you. I’ll respect it if you don’t want to share it with me, but please,” Getou looked into his eyes. “Let me be by your side. We’re the strongest, aren’t we?”
Gojou’s heart was on the verge of erupting. The feelings he’d been hiding all this time overflowed; every part of him felt hot. His skin, organs, veins -- until the tip of his fingers, he felt heat. He was burning, burning, burning.
His hands gripped Getou’s shoulders almost to the point of bruising. Startled, his friend stared at the intense gaze in his eyes.
“Do you really wanna know?” Gojou asked slowly. “Even if it ruins… ‘us’?”
“Nothing will ever ruin what we have, Satoru.”
Gojou had reached his limit. He didn’t know what to answer to that, so he settled for the simplest, most honest action: kissing him.
Afraid of his response, he gave a soft peck to his lips, not knowing if he would pull away. Instead of that, Getou gently grabbed his face and kissed him deeper. Gojou was a bit surprised, but welcomed the other’s tongue into his mouth and playfully bit Getou’s lower lip, making him moan.
“Fucking finally,” he whispered when they separated to gasp for air, but Gojou quickly pulled him back against his lips.
They kissed and kissed, losing track of time. Without them realizing, the sun was already showing up. After a while they stopped, lips swollen, looking at each other’s eyes. Gojou caressed Getou’s face.
“You,” he started after a moment. “You knew?”
Getou laughed as a response, lowering his hands to Gojou’s waist, pulling him closer.
“You asshole. And here I thought I was going to fuck up our friendship!”
“In my defense, I wasn't 100% sure. And you know I don’t do shit unless I’m sure.”
Gojou pouted and didn’t say anything.
“Oh,” Getou smiled. “You mad?”
He looked away, refusing to answer. The other one hugged him while cackling.
“Come on, Satoru.” The words came out muffled against his chest. “Forgive me? Please?”
This was too much for him. Gojou flushed, red as an apple, and held his face.
“...Okay.”
“Good. So I win.” They separated.
“No,” Gojou composed himself again. “That 's not winning. Personally, I think I won.”
“Oh? What did you win, now?”
Gojou suddenly turned serious. “I won your heart, baby.” There was a beat of silence. They both cringed.
And laughed their asses off.
“Oh my God, Satoru!” Getou said between giggles, Gojou being too busy trying not to piss himself to answer. “The ‘baby’ fucking killed me.”
They slowly calmed down -- their abdomen hurt from all the laughing. Wiping their tears, they sat on the sand to watch the sunrise on the horizon. Gojou looked at the morning sky tainted with orange and cyan, which was really different from how it looked a few hours earlier.
“No, but seriously,” Getou started. “Satoru? I’m very happy for how this late night beach ‘date’ has turned out. I mean it.” He turned to him.
“Oh boy, if only you knew.” Gojou relaxed his shoulders and looked down as he sighed. “These feelings -- they were turning me inside out and upside down. They were driving me crazy. You,” looking at the other, “drive me crazy. Take some responsibility, will you?”
Getou chuckled and laced his fingers with his new boyfriend’s.
“I love you, Suguru,” Gojou said. Getou knew how much weight those words carried for him.
He smiled. “I love you too, and that won’t ever change. Ever.”
Gojou was the happiest man in the world.
