Work Text:

"Kenma, are you listening?" Hinata stopped in the middle of his ramblings about the MSBY Black Jackals antics during training when he noticed his friend's attention was elsewhere.

"Sorry Sho, what were you saying again?" Kenma asked, eyes flicking to the clock. He wasn't trying to clock watch, he really wasn't. But, Kuroo was going to be home within the next couple of hours and he was trying to make sure his friend had left in time. That sounds mean but he really couldn't wait to see Kuroo again.

A big part of Kuroo's job is working away, whether it be for meetings with other companies or working on new things, he often had to spend days at a time out of the house but he's coming home for the holidays finally and Kenma (secretly) couldn't wait for it.

"It doesn't matter," Hinata laughed, taking the last sip of the hot chocolate Kenma had given him almost half an hour ago. He peered over to notice Kenma's was already empty where he cradled the mug in his lap. Hinata knew why his best friend was distracted; he knew Kuroo was coming and he didn't mind one bit, the two of them were going to see each other again within the next week or so anyway during training for the National Team - Kuroo and Kenma were always there.

"Sorry I'm so distracted," Kenma mumbled, looking down at his hands.

"Don't mind Kenma!" Hinata shouted happily. "I should probably be heading off soon anyway so I can be back in time for Tobio to come back," Kenma nodded, smiling softly. Where Hinata had been his close friend since his second year of high school when they first met, Kageyama wasn't somebody Kenma made an active effort to communicate with, he recognised his abilities as a setter of course but the two of them hadn't actually become friends until a couple of years ago when Kageyama and Hinata finally got together properly and now, he considered Kageyama one of his closest friends too.

"Bye Shoyo, see you next week!" Kenma called after the ball of energy ran off down the hallway of his apartment building.

Whenever he hung out with Hinata, Kenma felt like he'd been exposed to direct sunlight but he didn't mind, he was glad that he and Hinata were friends. Where Kuroo especially had always helped Kenma break out of his shell a bit more especially during high school, Hinata had always definitely also helped with that. Whenever they were around each other, Hinata always made sure he included Kenma in all of the conversations and happily text him constantly about what was happening, Kenma was grateful for that. Hinata was a blessing in his life and he was glad they were such good friends.

Even if Kuroo had been jealous to start with thinking Kenma and Hinata were going to get together, too oblivious to realise Kenma had been in love with him for so many years.

It was another hour of half moping a little bit and half paying attention to the game he was currently in the middle of before Kenma heard keys in the door.

Kuroo was home.

Kenma allowed a gentle smile to appear on his face as he heard Kuroo whistling to himself and then the sound of the door slamming shut. He wanted to jump up and go hug his boyfriend but he continued to sit on the sofa, trying to pretend he hadn't missed Kuroo as much as he had otherwise the other would for sure just tease him about it on a constant.

"Kenma!" Kuroo sang. It was only a couple more seconds before he was in Kenma's line of vision, kneeling down in front of him.

"Tetsu," Kenma whispered, reaching over to wrap his arms around Kuroo's shoulders.

"Hey kitten, how are ya?"

"Okay now you're here," Kenma smirked at the blush that appeared across Kuroo's face as he buried his face in Kenma's hair.

"Kenma," Kuroo whispered, rubbing small circles into his back. "Did you really miss me that much?"

"Yes." Kuroo smiled to himself at the quick response and held Kenma a little tighter to his chest.

The two of them stayed like that for a few minutes, Kenma just soaking in the warmth from Kuroo that he had missed so, so much. Nothing ever really felt right when Kuroo wasn't there, it always felt like everything had shifted slightly and it threw Kenma off. He didn't know when he had become so dependant on the other - well he did and it was when they were kids, he just didn't want to open that door - but he hated when he had to go away even for a few days.

Especially around the winter. As much as Kenma hated the summer, he hated the heat and how everyone was always crowding around everyone else, his mood's always dropped more in the winter so Kuroo being away never made him feel okay. As much as he hated to admit it, Kuroo looked after him. He was crap at looking after himself so sometimes, sure, he relied on Kuroo to help him out.

"You're thinking too loud Kenma," Kuroo said, pulling away from their hug and resting his hand on Kenma's cheek. "I'm here now and I won't be away again for a while."

"That's good," Kenma replied, yawning against his fist. "Can we sleep?"

"We need to eat."

"Sleep."

"Eat."

"Sleep."

"Eat."

"Sleep."

"Sleep...Damn it." Kenma smiled, pressing his lips against Kuroo's. "I love you kitten."

"I love you too."

"We're decorating the apartment tomorrow."

"Okay."
