The one thing Link hated about visiting the Hebra Region was the frigid cold. He pulled his travel cloak tighter to him as he followed behind the princess who was currently in one of her moods. She continued trudging forward as her thick woolen coat kept her nice and warm while she enjoyed the sound of the wind before finally deigning to speak.
"We will be staying in Rito Town for two full days while I pray at the shrine and examine the systems on Vah Medoh. Elder Totori has offered his roost to me. Is it fair for me to assume you will be staying with Champion Revali?" Her voice went from cold and formal to slightly soft at the end. She knew if she turned around she would see her personal knight's cheeks red from more then just the cold. She was actually happy for Link to have someone in that manner, as one it meant she was free of him shadowing her at night when they visited Rito town, and two it was good to know he actually talked to somebody and wasn't just an emotionless automaton like the guardians. It did make her sad and a hint miffed that he refused to speak around her. At times it even felt a touch insulting.
Link meanwhile focused himself on two things, the area around them, and the thought of reaching Rito town half a day early meaning he would get 3 nights with his boyfriend rather then just two. Still though he kept those thoughts to the back of his mind and kept focus of everywhere around them. Two weeks ago a yiga clan member managed to infiltrate the castle dressed as a guard and no one had stopped to confirm his identity until he had made it to the private quarters wing. Then Link had stopped him and managed to take him down. The king had been less then pleased with the lack of diligence of the knights in general while Link viewed it as a personal failure that any assassin had made it that far. Had Link not been patrolling the hallway at the time... He snuffed that thought out and tripled his vigilance. Every sound he heard he forced himself to seek its maker, every indent in the snow inspected with a careful glance, and he kept himself ready to throw Zelda to the ground and give his life protecting her if necessary.
Rito Town finally came into sight in the distance and only then did Link allow himself to calm a bit. Now he allowed himself to think about getting the princess to the elder before heading to Revali's roost, starting a fire if one wasn't already started, cooking Salmon Meuniere, and enjoying the warmth of his boyfriend. As a child Link always wanted to fly and used to wish he had been born a Rito. Now he wished to be a Rito for no other reason then to have the warming insulation of feathers.
When they finally made it to Rito they were greeted by Elder Totori.
"Your Highness. I am glad to see you made it unharmed." He gave a minor bow of his head. A bow of equals which Zelda swiftly returned with her usual magnificent grace.
"I thank you Elder Totori. May I inquire where the Rito Champion is?"
"Master Revali is currently leading a raid against a minor enemy encampment." The Elder explained. "He should be back soon." Zelda gave her usual polite diplomatic smile.
"Thank you Elder Totori. It has been a long journey and I would appreciate the chance to rest."
"Of course your Highness. Let me show you to your partition." The elder gave Link a soft knowing look that said he could take care of the princess. Link nodded his head in thanks and then headed to a roost that he knew so well.
Revali was soaring back on a victory high with two of his warriors. A camp of 30 bokoblins wiped out and not a single injury on any of the three. Tomorrow his boyfriend would arrive with the princess and they would be staying for two full days. That meant two nights with his beloved farmboy. Revali thought his day couldn't get better until he arrived at the landing in front of his roost, where he was greeted with the smell of Salmon Meuniere. His favorite dish, and judging by the smell he knew who had to be cooking it. He pushed through the curtain and sure enough there was his loveable, blond haired, ploughboy knight who was working diligently over a cooking pot. He spared a very quick glance at Revali before giving him a smile and then a fake pout. "I was hoping to have dinner finished to surprise you." That soft rustic drawl of Link's was always music to Revali's ears.
Revali lightly placed the tip of his beak against the top of Link's head mimicking a Hylian kiss. "My dear your cooking is worth waiting for." Link in turn gave a light loving sigh. This was his Revali. Not the strong and aloof Revali that was the Rito Master of Winds and Archery, nor the rightfully arrogant Champion Revali who enjoyed holding his accomplishments and position over the Hylian knights who thought themselves great because of their "noble" bloodlines. This was the loving and caring Rito that Link adored. This was the Revali who was willing to openly admit an error or allow himself to show weakness because he knew he did not have to prove himself to Link and that such actions would not diminish him in Link's eyes.
After he stepped back though a look of dissapproval krept into his eyes as he noted the lack of proper cold winter gear. "What am I going to do with you." He asked as he gave an exasperated sigh. Link gave him another glance then went back to cooking. Truth was that if Link requested it, he could easily get winter gear issued to him as Zelda's personal knight, but like his silence, Link was adverse to making requisitions for fear it might make him appear weak to the court and the rest of the knights. He tried to keep back a light shiver but Revali's falcon eyes noted it and he let out another sigh. "I suppose it can't be helped."
Revali excused himself to the sleeping partition of his room where he removed his armor and grabbed a sack cloth from his hammock. He then returned and dropped the sack in Link's lap without warning which caused even the well trained knight to be startled due to his focus on the cooking. The blond boy looked at his Rito companion before opening the bag and pulling from it a set of snowquill armor. Link was speechless not because of his usual silence but because he didn't know what to say. So instead he threw his arms around Revali's waist and hugged him close, which Revali welcomed and returned. Revali then helped Link try it on and that is when the blond knight noted the very familiar feathers that made up the snowquill. Before he could speak though Revali beat him to it.
"I recently molted and rather then make hundreds of new arrows I took them to Saezuri and had her fashion these for you. Now you no longer need to shiver." Link gave him another quick hug before he went back to finishing Revali's favorite dish just the way the Rito liked it.
They ate and talked about little things before cuddling next to the fire for a bit. As the last of the sun's glow disappeared they climbed into the hammock together. Link was certain the Snowquill was proof he had the best lover he could ever ask for. What he didn't know was Revali had another surprise for him but it would wait for tomorrow.
