Work Text:

Historians will call them anything but.

Wu Xi watched as Beiyuan interacted with the surrounding fauna and animals, a fond smile tugging on his face. Beiyuan knelt by the side of the garden, eyes in awe as his hands reached to touch anything in his sight, fingers combing a rabbit’s fur to witnessing the intricate patterns of a leaf. The blooming buds of pink flowers were fluttering out of trees at each corner, wind picking at the leaves that had abandoned their grips to the branches above. Wu Xi followed along as Beiyuan continued by the path, different objects catching his interest at each passing second, almost as if a child to the new discovery of their hands and finding what they could do with them.

“Beiyuan,” he called out, and the person he called for turned, a smile on his face that was rarely displayed – a smile that was fond and too innocent for the world. “Wu Xi,” he answered, standing up as he walked towards him. He hummed in question, his hand reaching to grab Wu Xi’s, their fingers effortlessly intertwining like two locks of puzzles.
Wu Xi stared at Beiyuan, his eyes glistening over each feature with an appreciative emotion, his expression attempting to conceal the overpouring love from the fast beating of his heart. “Nothing,” he said in response, bringing himself to go closer to Beiyuan, their hips touching slightly as Wu Xi swayed in his direction. Beiyuan smiled at him with a bright glint in his eyes, and his other hand somehow managed to turn Wu Xi around and had gripped his arm around his waist. “A-Xi,” he said to him, pulling the said male closer as their bodies pressed against one another, “did you want something other than nothing?”

His breath was trailing by his neck, dangerously close to where his jaw met his chin, and the crawling sensation of the small content hums Beiyuan kept under his breath made Wu Xi lose his will to push him away. “Maybe.”

Beiyuan brought his lips to linger over Wu Xi’s, his eyes trailing to look into Wu Xi’s before pressing their lips together, a gentle sensation that overtook their senses. “There you go,” he whispered, before giving a small chuckle when Wu Xi had wrapped his arm around Bei Yuan’s neck, pulling him back from the kiss. “One more.”

Beiyuan quirked an eyebrow, playfulness like a drug more powerful than adrenaline. He teased him, his eyes drifting back and forth from Wu Xi’s face, and he could feel how Wu Xi, too, was contemplating his decision. When the grip around his neck loosened, Beiyuan leaned forward and brought their lips to a meet, his hand letting go of Wu Xi’s to gently hold his cheek, pulling him closer.

Around them, the buzzing sensation of petals falling and the breeze sweeping made them feel alone and in a place of peace, the war of the world tumbling around them not found as chaotic – merely a distraction.

As one of them slipped their tongue passed the lips, a strong tug of wind muffled the sounds and covered the sights of the love, leaves bending in directions and trees forced down to disguise them forgetting where they were.

But it was only them.

And nature.

And peace.

But history hates lovers.
