Chapter Text
SOMETIME AROUND : 2300 BC, BABYLON
It had all started a long time ago, ever since the eternals had stepped on to Earth, Makkari had known that their was something special about the planet. Whether it be the people or the places, Makkari could never bring herself to stop caring.
The others made it look so easy, they would fight deviants and they would go to sleep at night, wake up the next morning and do it again. Makkari couldn’t stop her mind from spinning and her feet from moving after a long day. Flashes of the faces of the humans she could’ve saved run on a reel in her mind, the worst kind of movie to experience.
So she would be up when the rest of the world was asleep.
Apart from Druig.
When Druig had arrived on Earth he immediately disliked being there, as Druih often disliked most things, with an exception. The people were weak, their minds turned to mush under his power. But the deviants would pray on the weak and the strong. He had a job to do and tried to get it done as quickly and efficiently as possible.
But sometimes their were days, long ones where Druig couldn’t see the humans as beneath him, and couldn’t picture the deviants as nothing but a job.
On these days, he would lay awake, mind racing and itching to move, to react, to do anything other than feel.
He soon noticed Makkari, and he would join her.
They would sit, legs swinging on the edge of her bunk in a comfortable silence, an understanding. Their hands would be placed next to each other, an itch to move them closer, just an inch and they would touch.
No words were spoken but Druig had never felt so close to someone, so understanding of a persons core that he would trust them with anything. He didn’t feel like that for the rest of the eternals, sure they were family but more like distant cousins more than anything. He definitely didn’t feel that way for a human.
It was Makkari, always had been and always will be.
So when she moved her hand an inch closer, with that wide smile that melted Druig’s insides, he lifted it to his mouth and planted a feather light kiss on her palm, it was gentle and small but it meant the world.
And when she smiled Druig knew the Earth was worth the suffering and pain it would bring them all, it would be worth anything to see that smile.
The night she took his hand, after the battle in Babylon, hands full of dirt, and pointed out each star, signing the meanings and the ones she had named, was the night he knew that he wasn’t going anywhere.
He was in this for as long as she’ll have him.
