Drowning Without You

Summary:

For Joy

Notes:

Work Text:

Marinette felt the breath leave her body before she felt the impact. She had been thrown against the cliffside and she tried to grab a hold of anything, but the slick wall didn’t have any handholds. She tried to gasp in a breath and suddenly she was breathing in water, she hadn’t even realised that in her fall she was in the spray of the waterfall. She tried to spit out the water, but the river was strong and she couldn’t get out of the fall. She looked down and then closed her eyes. There was no getting out of this, and she knew it.

“Plagg, claws in.” She gasped out with the little breath she could get in.

“Pigtails! What the hell? Suit up!” Plagg was buzzing around her but she took off the ring in her free fall.

“Go find Jason. Adrien needs help, and he’s the only one I trust.”

“We’re gonna finish this Pigtails, we’ll get you back.”

She gave him a soft smile and then hit the rocks.

---

“Pit boy!” Plagg flew into Marinette’s room and Jason looked up.

He stood up on high alert. “Where’s Mari?”

“She fell. Adrien has Tikki, we have to- Jason, she fell !” Plagg was panicked and Jason accepted the ring from him.

“Where is he?” Jason shut down, he needed to be practical. If he could help Adrien then Mari would be okay. She had to be okay.

“Last I saw him he was headed towards the tower.” Plagg landed on his arm. “We’re gonna get her back.”

“Plagg, claws out.” Jason transformed and was out the window faster than the transformation could finish.

His staff rang and he picked it up immediately. “Where are you?”

“Hood? What happened to Noire?” Adrien asked.

“She fell, Plagg came to me. We need to finish this fast.” Jason kept his emotions in check because he couldn’t afford to fall apart, not right now. Not when she was relying on them to get her back.

“Meet me at the school, it’s Lila.”

“En route.”

---

The battle finally finished and Jason touched down next to Adrien. They were standing next to the cliff that Lila had created in her anger. She had terraformed most of Paris, but it was here that Marinette’s body was lying.

“Do it.”

“It might not work,” Adrien whispered. “She died from the fall and right after taking off-”

“Do it,” Jason repeated.

“Miraculous Ladybug!” Adrien threw the lucky charm in the air and Jason stared at Marinette. This had to work.

Jason rushed forward when she gasped in a sharp breath and held her tightly. “Mari.”

“Jay,” she whispered out and he leaned down to kiss her forehead.

“Don’t ever do that again.” He demanded, and she let out a soft hysterical laugh.

“I had to. It was the only way for it to end.”

“Please, I can’t handle it.”

“I love you.” Marinette kissed his jawline.

“Love you too.” Jason scooped her up and jumped up onto the rooftops. “Just, please. I can’t handle Plagg running in like that ever again.”

“I’ll try.”
