Well Meaning Friends

Summary:

Wolf and Cruz find out Burk is researching Hanukkah at lunch. flufftober Prompt: Meddling friends.

Work Text:

"Dude, are you converting to Judaism?" Cruz asked as he looked at Burk's tablet to see the man was reading up on the religion. Burk had been reading about it for the past week.

"No, you know I don't believe in God but you know religion is important to Ravit. She wants to start celebrating Jewish holidays. So the least I can do is educate myself and it might be fun." Burk said.

"Awwh, look at you, growing as a person." Wolf teased he reached out and pinched Burk's cheek.

"Get lost." Burk said, he smacked Wolf's hand away as the boys laughed. Burk had been with Ravit for over 18 months now and it was embarrassing that it took him this long to learn more about her religion. It wasn't like she was practising it, but then there wasn't the space or time for it. At least that's what Burk told himself. But he was turning over a new leaf, this year they were going to celebrate Hanukkah. Ravit had said she'd like to, he was going to make it the best Hanukkah he could.

"I think it's good, Ravit hasn't wanted to celebrate anything since the pandemic. Not even her birthday." Wolf said with a frown.

"I can understand that, but you know the relationship is getting serious when she wants to share holiday traditions with you." Cruz said, Wolf nodded. Burk watched the men talk as a bad feeling sank into his bones.

"I think it's great, what can we do to help? Maybe we can get Cruz's sister to teach us how to make Latkes, Rugelach or Sufganiyot." Wolf suggested excitedly.

"Beef Brisket is where it's at." Cruz told him.

"Yes." Wolf agreed both men nodded excitedly.

"Ok, guys, calm down. I think Ravit just wants something low key, the two of us." Burk told them, as he could see the men going out of control on this. He remembered their Easter celebration with the massive Easter egg hunt. Three people ended up in the ER with broken bones and Miller got a poison ivy rash. Burk did not want this holiday to explode into some massive event with casualties.

"Burk, we love you but you got to remember that we're family, family comes together for the holidays." Wolf told him.

"Yeah, exactly, I know we are gonna make this the best post pandemic Hanukkah ever!" Cruz told him.

"Until next year!" Wolf said as he and Cruz high-fived. Burk inwardly groaned as this was not good at all.

"Fine, but we're keeping it small and I'm running it all by Ravit. If she wants to veto something. No arguments." Burk told them as he was resigned to his fate. He just hoped his relationship with Ravit and their apartment survived the holidays.
