Chapter Text
Inko Midoryia waited quietly outside of Dr. Garaki's office, her son was currently sitting in the room across from them being entertained by a nurse whilst the doctor was explaining the situation of his quirk to her. As all mothers do, she had become quite worried, mainly expecting her child to gain a quirk that could hurt him, or be facing discrimination due to the increased chances of him becoming quirkless, something that was mainly on Hisashi's side of the family throughout the last few generations. Personally, Inko didn't mind whether or not her son had a quirk nor what side of the family it would originate from, she just wanted him to be safe and to feel included.
Quirk or no quirk, he was still her son and she would continue to love and care for him, even if the rest of the world shunned him for potentially lacking a quirk. She has been somewhat informed, by both the doctor and online studies, that fifth generation children with second and third generation quirkless relatives have a much higher chance of becoming quirkless themselves. Normally, on average most fifth generation children would have an 98.9% chance of gaining a quirk, however for Izuku, his chance drops down to 96.5% chance of potentially gaining a quirk, a slight difference but still noticeable long term.
Doctor Garaki opened the door and offered Inko a chair as he grabbed a file from his desk, closing the door behind them.
"Mrs. Midoryia, thankyou for being so incredibly patient with us, it's quite busy as you've most likely seen."
"Oh it's quite alright Doctor, I'm mainly just concerned for Izuku.."
"That's completely understandable, I do have the results of his test here and have been reading over them." He professionally stated
"Is it anything to worry about?" Inko anxiously questioned
A sigh escaped from the Doctor, "Potentially.." he spoke up, clearing his throat before reading through the updated file
"From our tests, we have deducted that Izuku does have a present quirk factor which is good considering his.. chances.." He continued on before looking over a different sheet of paper, "The Midroyia Family, Hisashi and Inko Midoryia. Quirks, Fire Breath and Small Object Attraction in that order, correct?"
"Uhm, yes that is correct Doctor" Inko confirmed, feeling more anxious as each second passed..
"Well, as you're aware, children inherit their parents quirks, combinations of them or rarely both of them, even rarer is inheriting quirks from grandparents or any further relatives. Your son however has.. bypassed a few of our secondary quirk tests, ones used to figure out whether or not we can accurately assume the quirk before it shows up. Leading us to assume that your son is in a different group compared to other children his age.." The doctor continued rambling on
"Essentially, your sons quirk is a.. mutation. We cannot accurately tell you anything about what his quirk could be, it could show up right now or it might not show up for the rest of his life. Mutations are.. complicated to deal with.." He concluded
"Is this.. Mutation.. a bad thing for Izuku?"
"Mutations are not inherently bad or negative for children, they however can be confusing and dangerous as they are viewed as unpredictable. It's truly random, most parents and children and perfectly safe when a child is confirmed to having a mutation quirk but it still is.. suggested to take special care of him, watch over him and if you have any concerns or questions, you can always ask us."
. . .
Inko looked up into her rear vision mirror, glancing over to Izuku still playing with his All Might action figure. Ever since waking up, he has been excited, comparable to a ball of energy, practically jumping off of walls and making attempts to summon his quirk. Even questioning her on how she pulls objects towards herself or how his dad used his quirk yet he couldn't replicate either of their quirks. Atleast she now knows for certainty that he most likely is a late bloomer or the quirk has extremely specific requirements for summoning.
"Izuku sweetie, Auntie Mitsuki and Uncle Masaru are coming over soon, are you excited to see them?"
"Yes! Is Kats.. Katsu.. Kat.. Kacchan coming too?" Izuku mumbled out, she might need to take him to a speech therapist just incase.. Could his quirk be speech related?
"Yes Izuku, Katsuki is coming over too."
The drive home felt long even though it was only twenty minutes, Inko could put the blame on how slow it was throughout the hospital and how infuriating some of the drivers could be today. She was a calm woman at heart and always would be, it's not her fault that Hisashi's temper too had grown on her, Mitsuki wasn't any better and encouraged her to let her temper out.
Pulling into her parking lot before walking Izuku back to their apartment, she quickly prepared the kettle on the stove whilst grabbing a few snacks for the visitors with her telekinesis, the Bakugou's would be arriving soon and Izuku seemed irritable too, seemingly in a good way.
Knocking at the door had pulled her from her thoughts, looking through the peephole to see the Bakugou family already waiting outside as she promptly opened the door and welcomed them all in, even Katsuki seemed excited for what was happening, Mitsuki must've told him what was happening
"Come in, it's lovely to see you all again. Katsuki, you've grown!" Inko chirped out, "You're getting so much bigger aren't you"
"Inko, how did the visit to the hospital with little Izuku go?" Mitsuki asked, "Did he get what we were talking about?" She seemed to whisper on
"It went lovely, Izuku does have a quirk but the Doctor confirmed that it wasn't one inherited from Hisashi or myself, he has a mutation quirk" She excitedly spoke up, "It hasn't shown up and Izuku hasn't had any symptoms of a quirk emerging just yet so we're unsure on what it'll be but Izuku definitely has a quirk!"
"Katsuki, do you want to play with Izuku for a while?" Inko offered, "Okay Auntie! Zuku! Do you want to play heroes!" Katsuki shouted, the boy seemed to be getting more and more outgoing, extroverted even as each day had passed. His quirk truly matched his personality. "Okay Kacchan!"
"Do you two want some tea? I've put the kettle on." Inko offered
"Yes please, we'll have green tea if you've got that"
Inko enabled her quirk once again while sitting with the visitors, a minor telekinesis quirk was more useful than most people would assume even if it was seen as weak, it was useful and Inko didn't need to be looking at things to grab a hold of them. She poured each of them a cup before pouring herself one.
The group sat in silence as they heard their children softly in the distance playing, even discussing their quirks, or Izuku's potential quirk.
Marasu broke the silence first by speaking, "Are you worried about Izuku's quirk? We haven't been reading much about other quirk types since we got Katsuki tested when he was born"
"Very worried, and Mutation quirks are ones not related to family genetics or heritage. Those quirks are unpredictable and we can only figure out what quirk it is when it shows up.. Apparently there have been cases where children with Mutation quirks live their lives normally without ever figuring out what their quirk is or it never shows up, it does worry me because Izuku wants to be a hero and I just want him to be safe.." Inko carried on
Marasu and Mitsuki both continued listening and contributing to the discussion and would include their thoughts, encouraging Inko to have fun and to enjoy her time with Izuku as everything becomes 'hectic' after children gain their quirks. The group overtime began to ease up slowly, thoughts of anxiousness were washed away as they all began laughing about the past and growing up, blissfully unaware of the prying little ears listening to their previous conversation.
As time continued to pass on, days turning to weeks and from there, weeks changing into months, Inko was slowly beginning to lose hope in Izuku ever showing his quirk. She continued to try and hold onto the belief that he simply was a late bloomer or his quirk would be taking a toll on his body, requiring more time for him to grow and thus she continued pushing the growing, anxious thoughts of him never gaining a quirk aside.
She could already see that Izuku was getting worried too, alongside the genetics of crying easily for her, Izuku seemed to pick up on the anxiousness too.. She could see the tensions growing between him and the other pre-schoolers as each and every one of them had gained their quirk. She could see that Izuku was counting down how many of them still were waiting for their quirks, five more, four more, three more, two more, until there was only one left, himself. She could see that there was a slight rift between him and Katsuki, ever growing since their afternoon since the Bakugou's came over for information on Izuku's Quirk.
Both Mitsuki and Marasu were getting concerned too, she wanted what was best for Izuku and nothing else. She wanted him to be happy with himself no matter what, quirk or no quirk but she'd want a definite answer, right now she was left in the dark. Figurately and literally as she sat on the couch after turning the television off. She needed to get answers soon as the whole situation was eating away at her slowly, an anxious pit was forming in her stomach and it was getting more uncomfortable as each day had passed.
Standing up from her couch and turning to put Izuku to bed, she saw a glimmer illuminating from the computer room, walking in there she found Izuku re-watching that one All Might video. She could remember it playing on the television just a few years ago only when Izuku was very young, it was too disturbing for her to watch as she could still see the bodies of fallen people in the background of the burning building, the people that he couldn't save but Izuku didn't know that just yet.
She watched on as he continued to replay the video, seeming to change his posture as All Might seemed to laugh with determination and repeating his catchphrase, "I am here!"
"Izuku, it's time for bed and you shouldn't be that close to the monitor, okay sweetie?"
"Okay mom.." He responded, sounding extremely tired with a sniffle, was he getting sick?
She walked over to him, noticing dried tears down his cheeks, "Mom.. Can I still be a hero if I don't ever get a quirk..?" he appeared to whisper out to her
"Of course.. I'll love you no matter what Izuku" She softly spoke up as she hugged him tightly, forcing her own tears back for now.
. . .
Months continued pass by, Inko crossed the date off of the calendar. It had been nine months, two weeks and five days since Izuku's first examination with the doctor, but who was counting? Certainly not her.. She wasn't feeling at ease or any comfort and had begun worrying yet again as Izuku too, appeared to be losing hope. Perhaps they were wrong with the analysis, could he be quirkless? Inko couldn't stop herself from worrying, even asking for advice from Mitsuki when it mainly end up being for her to wait it out a little longer. Inko continued to wait and wait and wait, yet nothing would happen.
That was until she had seen Izuku itching at himself more often, at first she had assumed it would be mosquitos as the main cause, yet the weather wasn't clear enough for them to be an issue just yet. Inko continued worrying, maybe he was allergic to certain fabrics or he was getting into bad habits, perhaps it was a rash?
Inko would continue to worry about Izuku, as it had been days since Izuku had begun to scratch himself, his arms, face, legs, anywhere and everywhere. Even in public which seemed embarrassing for both himself and her as the mother, so he has been kept from preschool temporarily to save him from embarrassment from his peers.
The other thing that Izuku would ask for was warmer baths, not boiling. But just over room temperature and he would sit in there for at least twenty minutes at a time without doing anything at all, searching online she had figured out maybe he caught something, maybe he's getting sick or perhaps was getting a bad invisible rash? He doesn't have any other symptoms..
Inko had never once thought that it could be a quirk, infact she had completely forgotten that was an option.
Peacefully sitting back down at the television, Inko had been getting exhausted these last few days considering she was caring for Izuku around the clock and had to call off of work to get more time to watch over him and today was no different. She had given Izuku three baths today, with the third one just concluding moments ago, she had to watch over him each time to ensure his safety and right now she just needed a break and so she had just decided to shut her eyes, Izuku was safe, he was in his bedroom reading some new books and his the 'itching' feelings seem to have faded yet again. She would only have a nap for a few minutes at most, she could feel sleep calling out to her and she responded, falling unconscious within a minute of relaxing on the couch.
In what felt like an instant, Inko had abruptly been woken up from something moving, whether it be her quirk alerting her or a motherly sense waking her up. Rubbing her eyes, she grabbed her phone and had quickly realised that she had been asleep for over an hour, shocked, she went to stand up and check on Izuku and then her eyesight begun to clear up.
From what she thought were her eyes playing tricks on her in the previously assumed darkened room, she could see strange.. cracks littering down the walls, they appeared to be moving ever so slightly.. It reminded her of roots from an old tree spreading out but physically appeared to be that the walls were falling apart.. Was there a villain attack going on nearby causing this damage? Taking a closer look, it wasn't cracks in the walls, but a strange substance that appeared to be leaking from the ceiling and building up on the floor, there wasn't a large amount but it was there.. It didn't appear to be water, it was too thick for that.. As she continued to think to herself, she noticed how.. quiet it was inside. Too quiet.
Izuku!
Inko quickly ran through her apartment, noticing an increase in that strange black liquid, if it could even be called a liquid building up the further down the hallway it went. It had barely existed throughout the loungeroom yet it appears to have erupted outwards throughout here.. The possibility of this being Izuku's quirk had never once crossed her mind until she had walked into her son's bedroom to find him crying, alone sitting down beside his bed with that liquid oozing out of his body.
As soon as she saw her little boy, all of her thoughts were eased. This made much more sense, the itching under his skin transforming into.. this stuff she mentally cringed as she looked over to it, a dark black containing a barely visible purple tinge towards it. She walked over to her child and comforted him, both seeing and feeling the relief evaporate from her child as the black liquid began pulling itself together before it was lured back into Izuku, a.. disturbing view to say considering it melted right back into his skin perfectly..
Questions were flooding through Inko's mind, how could a child create this much from his quirk when he first gets it before realising the symptoms from the last few days, the excessive amount of itching and complaining about something itching under his skin, this must've been his quirk. How could he have no quirk exhaustion from..
Looking over at her son, that question was easily answered as he quickly went straight to sleep without any effort whatsoever, even before lunch of all things. She would sit here with him for now, congratulate him with some food and watching All Might on the television later before heading over to the hospital for a check up later in the afternoon. Mitsuki was right, as exhilarating as this, Izuku's going to be restless for quite a while now that he has a quirk..
"Ah, come in, come in" The Doctor spoke up, holding the door open for the Midoryia's, Izuku holding his mothers hand seeming eager to learn about more about his quirk. Inko can see the stars already forming within his eyes, Izuku has always been one for learning, especially when it comes to quirks.
"Thankyou for having this examination on such short notice Doctor. Garaki, Izuku's been excited to learn more about his quirk since it came in"
"There's no problem Mrs. Midoryia, I did receive some information from the form you signed describing his quirk, I believe he might possess a form of water manipulation as his quirk base? Can you describe the liquid he created for me?" The Doctor questioned
"It was dark, incredibly dark. I thought it was cracks through the wall at first but it seemed to be moving around slowly, it looked thicker than water but still appeared to be a liquid of sorts?" Inko rambled on, "Apart from that, I don't know what else it could be"
"Well.. Currently, I can only assume that it is a liquid his own body creates.." The Doctor seemed to mutter out, "Mrs. Midoryia, can your son use his quirk for me? I only require a small amount, from there I'll test the properties of it and come back with some results." The Doctor kindly asked
"Yes please.. Izuku? Can you use your quirk for me please?"
Izuku quickly nodded as a section of his arm appeared to briefly warp and disfigure slightly as a black liquid began to leak out of his arm. Dr. Garaki pulled out a vial and had captured a small amount of the quirk before excusing himself and began to test the properties of such a fascinating quirk.
Inko sat in the room, listening to Izuku talking about his quirk and quirks in general whilst waiting patiently for Garaki to return. Izuku seemed to be getting restless as time passed, even with his All Might figurine in his hands. "Apologies for taking so long Mrs. Midoryia" He spoke up before glancing down to Izuku, smiling "I suppose you two would be interested in learning about your quirk?"
"Yes!" Izuku had shouted out, he's not one for raising his voice too much but I'll let it slide for once..
"Well, simply put, your son appears to be able to both create and manipulate this strange matter, theoretically he could change the state the matter is in, making it into a liquid or a complete solid." He stated, "We weren't able to figure out what type of liquid it was, but it's appears to be quite dense considering the form that it's holding. Apart from that, it also attempts to 'consume' objects smaller than itself or atleast appears to try and do so." Doctor Garaki continued speaking
"Anyways, those are some of the more interesting aspects of his quirk I've noted, considering how varied quirks are these days I would've only skimmed over the surface but I do highly suggest to be careful with this quirk, anyways, there are a few other important details that are crucial for his development with his quirk, I've sent the list over to the receptionist to print out and hand over to you. Is there any other questions Mrs. Midoryia?"
"Ah.. No thankyou Dr. Garaki. Thankyou again for everything"
He simply nodded, "I'll update his registry later today, you'll also get a letter in two to three business days as a confirmation"
Sitting in the comfort of her home yet again, Inko watched on as Izuku played with his quirk in the loungeroom, at the same time he was writing down the basics of his quirk in short sentences, as good as an almost five year old child can achieve in writing atleast. Yet she was smiling as she watched on, he continued to play with his quirk and attempted to examine it as best as he could. It probably wasn't overly effective but it looked adorable and he seemed to love his quirk.
The knocking at the door however pulled both Midoryia's from their separate thoughts, getting up, Inko walked over to the door and invited Mitsuki and Katsuki inside, with Izuku jumping up running over to them, overjoyed "Auntie! Kacchan!" He called out, "Guess what!"
"I got my quirk!" He shouted out, Katsuki seemed to appear surprised and happy that his friend finally got his quirk, Mitsuki congratulated him. It didn't take too long for Izuku to show off his quirk, Katsuki questioned if he could do more than create dirty water which Izuku seemed annoyed at, correcting his friend that he wasn't sure what it was
"So it could be dirty water?" Katsuki smiled, Inko could just hear Mitsuki muttering something to herself
Both adults looked at eachother, before allowing the children to play together, "Alright, Bakugou, Izuku, you can use your quirks. But we have to watch over you two, please be careful too, alright?" Inko questioned them.
"Yes Auntie.."
"Yes Mom.."
The two boys spoke up before running into the loungeroom yet again to play with their quirks. Mitsuki and Inko continued their conversation from the other day, whilst they pointed out Izuku's quirk, creating what appeared to be an small figurine of All Might in front of himself, before handing it over to Katsuki. The figurine appeared to melt slowly into his hands, resulting in him saying it feels gross
"I know, but it looks so cool Kacchan!"
"How would this help with beating up bad guys..."
"I don't know.." Izuku spoke before realising something, he began to solidify the liquid as it was covering Katsuki's hands
"Woah! You weren't even touching it!"
Inko looked over to see the strange material in a solid form covering Katsuki's hands, "Katsuki, are you alright dear?"
"Yes Auntie! Zuko's quirk is so cool.. It's gross but still cool.." He shyly muttered out
"Is it hurting at all?"
"No.. It's just itchy on my hands.."
Inko looked back up towards Mitsuki, "Izuku's quirk seems a tad messy Inko, you sure you'll be able to handle it?" She questioned, seeming concerned "I remember when Katsuki's quirk came in he couldn't stop himself from making a mess, we had to fix so many things before he had more control over it" Inko looked over and saw Katsuki slightly blushing at that, seeming embarrassed but keeping quiet
"I think we'll be alright" Inko stated as she continued watching as Izuku offered his hand to Katsuki in the loungeroom as he pulled the strange matter back into his skin, "He seems to be doing well with his quirk, I'm officially along for the ride now aren't I Mitsuki?"
"You certainly are Inko." Both adults were watching on as Katsuki accepted Izuku's hand and got up off of the ground, "I'm glad they're friends again" Mitsuki spoke, "Katsuki seemed unsure on what was going on, he seems happier now"
"My Katsuki is stubborn at times, but those two really do balance eachother out, don't they Inko?"
. . .
Over the next few months and continuing through the next few years, Izuku and Katsuki continued to play together, learn together and use their quirks together. They had moved quickly through their pre-school years being complete novices with their quirks but would continue moments where they would play together with Kacchan giving out beautiful, flashy light shows with his quirk and Izuku would make himself look taller or create small statues of All Might within seconds based on his memory alone. Some weren't perfect and because of Izuku's creative mind, he would find himself giving All Might rabbit ears or forgetting distinctive features purely on accident, making Kacchan laugh which both of their parents loved viewing.
Elementary School was another obstacle for the boys, for Katsuki it had been a time where he had been mindlessly praised for any little action he had done and Izuku on the other hand was reprimanded easily and wasn't picked as often as Katsuki. The boys were still young but even then they had realised something was wrong, neither of them had ever assumed it had been an issue with quirks but as they got older, that was the only remaining explanation that could be used as a way to compare the two boys with Izuku first bringing up his thoughts whilst Kacchan didn't believe for that to be true..
The time passing throughout the next four years had been highly entertaining with the connection between the two growing ever stronger, having constant sleepovers and Izuku analysing his and Kacchan's quirks, something he had always loved doing, picking apart and figuring out the smallest of details of things he had an interest for, Quirks of course had to be one of the things Izuku had obsessed over and his increase in age would only strengthen his analysis work. The boys both had nights where they'd play together in their rooms, mainly consisting of looking into their futures and seeing themselves as a hero duo, fighting crime together and saving everybody, surpassing All Might in every way, shape and form.
They still had their sights on shooting for the stars, aiming directly for the Hero Course at U.A. The prestigious school that has become established for creating some of the best and brightest heroes known to Japan, including All Might himself!
However their friendship, assumed to continue blossoming began to slowly wither and fade away, it was in Izuku's later years in Elementary School that he had first noticed an obvious disconnect between himself and Kacchan, where they had been extremely close to eachother practically since birth and having photos where they would be connected to eachother on their respective birthdays, however the rift seemed to be slowly growing in the background, barely taking the attention of the two boys. This problem for them didn't occur from anything terrible happening to the two of them, nor did a large fight break out between the two of them, unfortunately it was a natural decline between the two previous best friends, where they both had similar goals and achievements in life but would be walking down separate paths.
The said rift between them truly started to take effect as they begun their fifth grade in Elementary School when for the first time their classes didn't intersect nor connect. For the first time in their lives, they didn't have eachother to distract or help with learning and over the next few weeks of classes, Izuku saw Kacchan thrive whilst he stood by idly, behind the scenes. Waiting for his friend to come back.
He was immediately filled with.. doubts, was he holding his friend back? What had happened? Was he a bad person? Was it because of his quirk, an issue that some teachers and other students seem to mention?
Izuku had began seeing Kacchan hanging out with other friends he had made, constantly being praised yet again and Izuku realised that he was being left behind whether he had liked it or not. Kacchan didn't abandon him, he still would talk to him every second or third day or would occasionally visit for sleepovers or invite Izuku to have sleepovers with his new friends but now Izuku had felt he was.. second best to his new friends.
This wasn't his fault.. right? And so, Izuku began to think more.. realistically as this was happening, of course it was.. unlikely that their friendship would stay that way forever he would convince himself, nothing was meant to last, especially because of his quirk which is considered to be an issue to so, so many people.. Didn't Kacchan see it as just.. dirty water when he had first seen Izuku truly happy with himself?
And so, Izuku began to distance himself ever so slightly away from Katsuki, letting him speak to him first whereas previously he would hunt for him to talk to him or let him, the natural born leader to lead the conversations, only to find out how shallow and lifeless their conversations had become. The only connection between the two was their love for heroics, and for Izuku that single strand of thread had snapped, leaving him abandonded.
Izuku had slowly begun to simply accept the reality, accepting that they had both inspired eachother to do their best they would continue following their own desires, Izuku wanted to stay behind and hide within the shadows with his quirk, taking inspiration from lesser-known heroes whilst keeping an eye on the well known heroes, gaining inspiration from Ingenium, Sir Nighteye alongside many other interesting characters whilst Katsuki followed in All Might's footsteps, becoming a legend in Japan, the greatest hero.
Izuku watched as Bakugou seemed to become more and more popular as time passed, he had always been popular throughout Elementary School and starting Junior High, but he stayed alongside me most of the time. Afterall, Bakugou is a known leader, somebody who would push everybody around him to their limits, as loud as he can be, he's an inspiration and is proud to be himself. He's aiming to be the best hero, surpassing All Might in both strength, work ethics and popularity for the future. He doesn't just believe that, he knows that one day Bakugou Katsuki would be the best hero in the world.
And that's where Izuku had been left, cold and alone. The rain hadn't ever felt this heavy during the start of the new years and ever since graduating Elementary School and moving up to Aldera Junior High, the rain had only gotten heavier and more noticeable. Throughout all the problems though, Izuku continued shining, for his mother, himself and his future saving others.
His first year in Junior High was.. interesting, looking around the classroom Izuku can already tell that this year won't change anything and he wouldn't be able to make any new friends. He wouldn't hate nor dislike his classmates, some appear to have extremely interesting quirks and even greater personalities! Simply put, Izuku doesn't feel any connection with his classmates so far. He watches on as Bakugou once again is welcomed into the class as the students realise how strong his quirk is and how abrasive and brash his personality is. They simply admire people for their quirks, the teachers appear to join in once again. Admiration purely based on quirks.
Izuku isn't blind when it comes to quirk discrimination, when he was younger he couldn't believe that people were that cruel but now, he understood the reality of it all. He doesn't hate Kacchan for anything at all, nor does he hate others around him. He can easily understand it's not their fault, but people always spreading false positivity with quirks, pure, blind admiration that society continues fanning the flames on younger children. Izuku can easily understand these feelings, it's simple he continues envying Bakugou and those with strong and flashy quirks whilst he and others like him are pushed aside without any questions asked.
He can easily remember times where his classmates throughout the years of pre-school and Elementary School would all have similar reactions to his quirk, either viewing it as cool yet weak or straight out disgusting. Either expressing it with their words or facial expressions alone. He couldn't blame them, his quirk does seem disturbing to say the least, but the nicer comments were alright, with some people praising him for wanting to become a hero but continued to suggest that he probably shouldn't. He knows that he doesn't have the strongest quirk available, far from it in comparison to those who can wipe out a city with a single punch or create explosions from their hands, perhaps he can become strong in his own way?
That's where analysis comes in play, it has always been a strong suit for Izuku, "A card up your sleeve" as his mother would always point out, where he got his anxiousness directly from his mother, he had gotten his mind from his father, a man who he can barely even remember the face of. He could see it within photographs but in his memory, it's a blank slate. All of his 'memories' of Hisashi were stories told to him, ones where he'd eagerly clap his hands together when his father would use his quirk to create beautiful waves throughout his fire. Talking about him now was more of a slightly taboo topic and thus he had stopped asking about him a long time ago..
When Izuku began to learn more about his quirk on his own through his later years in Elementary School, leading into his years in Junior High - all he had to go off of was that he could create manipulate that gel that oozes directly from his skin and thus his first actual self-analysis was begun, with Izuku asking himself basic, knowledgeable questions, only relying on his mother for help but he couldn't overly worry her too much.. I might become an anxious mess easily but he couldn't watch himself cause even worse anxiety for his own selfish purposes.
For his questions, he would consider the distance he can control the gel/slime before it cuts off, the speed of pulling it from his skin to returning it, how much at once can he create, speeds between swapping the states of matter and so on. Izuku continued asking himself these questions for strengthening his own quirk.
Not just asking himself those questions and many more, but experiments too. Viewing the gel as not a quirk, but as an extension of his own self and that's where he alone had thrived without needing any outside help.
He would continue staying mostly alone, learning and perfecting the slight movements of his quirk, even including some special moves such as coating objects in his slime, which enabled a form of telekinesis on general objects with him limiting the amount of visibility from the slime, stretching and thinning it out which could mask his quirk. Theoretically he could do so much more with his quirk considering that he was able to partially mask the visibility of it, perhaps that could go into his Self-Quirk Analysis Notes, he'd continue his Hero Notes for the Future sometime soon, he needs some.. inspiration.
His first year of Junior High had quickly passed as Izuku continued through the simplistic motions of mainly acting silent in class, completing all of his study material, occasionally speaking to classmates and repeating that almost daily for the entire year. It was the most exhausting year for him with days feeling as if somebody had used their quirk on him as life had been moving too slowly or too quickly..
The start of his second year in Junior High was more interesting, "Maybe.. Just maybe this year will be better" Izuku whispered to himself as he walked to school.. Chuckling to himself after questioning that, knowing the answer already..
"Welcome class, to your Second year of Junior High! You all should be well acquainted with eachother by now, but let's refresh ourselves with some introductions!" The teacher eagerly spoke up. Izuku had never enjoyed the introductory sections through his classes, he somewhat knew his classmates names and their quirks, was it really this necessary? Quickly glancing throughout the room, looking over the familiar faces, Izuku had noticed something was missing.. Was Katsuki no longer in his class? He wasn't anywhere to be seen and there were no spare seats, did he leave Aldera to go to another, higher quality school or did he just join the first class instead of the second class..?
"Midoryia, can you please introduce yourself?" He recognised his name being called out, the teacher had finally spoken up requesting him this time.. His name must be further down the list this year.
Izuku stood up from his seat before hasily making his way to the front of the class, "My name is Midoryia Izuku, I'm thirteen years old and it's nice to finally meet you all" He respectfully spoke up, bowing to his classmates as his introduced himself.
"And your quirk?"
"Oh, I can create and manipulate a type of slime that oozes from my skin." He spoke up, lifting his arm and melting it down into a darkened matter before forming it back into his hand, looking up to see the usual expressions plastered with disgust over his classmates faces, just as expected. There were a few who appeared to be neutral or didn't care, that's nice. Ignoring the occasional glances, he walked back to his seat as other classmates continued introducing themselves before finally starting their day.
Staring at his Self-Quirk Analysis Notebook, Izuku was.. somewhat prepared for the year ahead of him. Quirk wise, he isn't progressing as fast as Katsuki is, far from it considering how.. extensive his quirk can become at times. Maybe he has to tackle this issue at a different approach. Reading over the most recent updated notes and suggestions, he could possibly achieve something this year to help his progression.
He shut his notebook and hastily followed the rest of his classmates outside, proceeding to their next class. He can do this.
Midoryia Izuku.

Description:
The user can ooze a strange slime-like liquid from their skin, coating their body in it or completely replacing their body with the slime itself. Objects can travel through one side and appear out the other with no signs of wounds or injuries in that body. The 'slime' itself isn't too descriptive of what it is, current estimates are varied, assuming perhaps a form closest to latex but highly enhanced. It's either a mix of multiple things or something entirely new and thus unknown.
The gel is black in origin with a slight purple tint towards it when light shines onto it at the right angle or if it's directly out in the sunlight.
There are multiple methods currently known for effectively using the quirk, the user can 'speak' to the slime, telepathically or via physically speaking and it responds to basic commands directly from myself. Audio recordings do not work. The slime can also be moved telekinetically, where it doesn't need to be connected to the user, the 'hive' to be moved around.
When a thin layer of the 'slime' coats an object, I can technically use telekinesis on said object, as long as the gel can hold its form around said object or person. The object however has a slight tint, darkening itself slightly.
There's potentially more properties available, I'd need to safely experiment with my quirk, without making such a mess.
Plans:
Locate a place to safely let loose, attempt experimentation.
Talk to mom about quirk gyms if I can't find a place.
Maybe make a friend this year.
