Work Text:
Marc’s family situation was a little complicated.
He was adopted at a young age by his two amazing moms, but that wasn’t the complicated part. That part came one day when he was ten and a random girl and her dad showed up at their door, the girl loudly proclaiming that they were cousins.
Marc had known Marinette for about six years now, and it still baffled him that she managed to track him down by interrogating her aunt (who was his mom, who had given him up because she didn’t want to take care of him, apparently.) and using that information to go through multiple cities trying to find him. Honestly, he shouldn’t be surprised. One time he went into her room and got smacked in the head by a flour sack because of a contraption she made.
(Marinette said it was a trap for akumas, which, considering how often her class gets targeted by akumas, is fair enough.)
Marc ended up transferring to her school the year Hawkmoth appeared. Neither of them really talked about being cousins. It’s not like it was important for anyone to know. As far as the rest of the students were concerned, they were just close friends.
But, of course, there were exceptions. Particularly, Marc’s crush.
While he was usually sheepish about revealing his relation to one of the most popular girls in school, even if she denied that, once Nathaniel asked how they knew each other, the explanation came out of his mouth like a running faucet. Marc really couldn’t control what he said around the other, but luckily he hasn’t said anything too embarrassing in front of him yet.
The same could not be said about his actions.
Whatever Marc was expecting when he walked up to Nathaniel that morning, a greeting fresh on his lips, it was not a goddamn bag randomly appearing in front of him. He only managed to get a single syllable out before his foot hit the cursed item, making him tumble down the stairs, Nathaniel reacting with a shocked squeak, with the writer landing face first at the bottom.
Marc groaned, sitting up and rubbing his face to alleviate the pain. He glared at the ground, muttering under his breath, “Damn genetics.” Sudden laughter from next to him made him jump. Nathaniel had apparently walked down in the time it took for Marc to snark to himself.
“Guess clumsiness runs in the family,” Nathaniel joked, holding out a hand.
Marc nodded, letting Nathaniel pull him, willing down the blush rising to his face in the moment, “Haha, yeah.”
“That was a pretty big fall. Wanna go to the nurse?” The artist asked, although with him already tugging him along, it was pretty clear Nathaniel was taking him there whether Marc wanted it or not. He was so caring. Marc nodded, reveling in the feeling of Nathaniel holding his hand.
While Marinette’s clumsiness often made her look like a fool in front of her crush, Marc was pretty happy with where the family curse had gotten him.
