   Summary

   Cigar smoke hung so heavy in the air that Jerma could practically feel it sinking into his clothes. His eyes burned. It was thick and hazy, lingering in a deep fog. Green’s smile cut through it all like a searchlight. The man’s teeth were big and crooked, sneering, stained yellow from years of tobacco abuse. 

   “A deal’s a deal, Jeremy, you know that,” Green told him, smug enough to turn Jerma’s stomach. Despite it being so low and rolling, his voice was still commanding and deep enough to sound much too loud in Jerma’s ears, making him feel that much smaller. “I never, ever go back on a deal. Especially not for you. What we’ve got is special.”
