Work Text:

She had watched him since he was a little child.

He was fond of looking at the night sky, and talking to the stars. Maybe he didn't know someone was listening. He probably didn't. He was a Telmarine. And Telmarines never believed of the old Narnia. Of the Kings and Queens of the old, of dwarfs, fauns, and talking animals. No, he probably didn't know that stars could take forms.

Sakura had watched each night, eager to listen to the boy's tales. He was a prince, and what adventures he have. He is always excited to tell the night sky how he had face each of them, imagining, Sakura thinks, that there really is someone listening.

Sakura had learned of the boy's name. Sasuke. But he was not just a boy now. He have grown. He is now a crowned prince, the heir to the throne. But he still go out his veranda each night. He still tells the night sky, tells her everything that had happened of his day.

Sakura found out from her mother, Tsunade, now a star at rest, that Telmarines believe that when a loved one passed, that love one would join the starts. She realized Sasuke had been talking to his late mother all along.

When the war started, Sakura had been there to listen to Sasuke. He would stay longer by his balcony now. He'd be there by sunset, awaiting the first stars, and until the dawn sky had broke the dark night sky. He shared all his worries, all his doubts, all his guilt for being the crowned prince and being barred from going to the front lines.

He shared his worries for his people, for his soldiers, and for his brother who had take to the battle to raise the crowned prince's banner.

She was there to witness his tears for the first time in years when the war had finally been over. Tears he hid from others but the stars. Tears for their victories. And even more tears for the lives lost. Tears for his brother who had died in his name.

It was these tears that urge Sakura to take form for the first time. Somehow, she wanted to respond to him. Somehow she knew it was not enough to just listen.

She took form and slowly approach him. He heard her move and he looked up, stunned.

She stopped in her tracks, not knowing what to do now. She had acted not by her thoughts but  by her feelings alone.

"Y-you..." Prince Sasuke said breathlessly.

She did not know what to say, but she didn't have to.

"You're a star." The prince said, not looking scared, but just amazed.

"I-I am." Sakura said, finding her voice. "But how did you know?"

"My professor. Kakashi tells me of the old Narnia." He said. "Why have you come here?" He asked.

"I have always been here." Sakura said.

"You're the one." Sasuke said, smiling. "The one who've been listening to me all these years."

"Yes." Sakura said in a whisper.

"You're my friend..." Sasuke said, seemingly too amazed to look away from Sakura. "And you came because you so my grief."

Sakura nodded slowly.

"Thank you." He said, and in astonishment, Sasuke saw tears trickling down his handsome  face once more.

Without words, she moved forward and embraced him and let him cry to her.
