Work Text:
Taking my hand out of the coat to shake off the bangs from the eyes, my whole body trembled by the cold air that felt so suddenly. Shaking my head multiple times for better view sight, I could hear laughter coming from the purple-haired girl standing next to me. I frowned―wasn’t actually mad, you know―causing louder and more natural laughter from her. Along with the wind wrapping us, I raise my head towards the sky―dark and cold sky with one, or maybe two, stars shining―leaving us into deep silence. Rooftop at dark nights, whatever the time was, we held hands in the middle of cold winter air.
What broke the silence was the sounds of notifications from Ena’s phone. All the messages were from the new upload of Nigo; as expected, it was full of compliments. Works from four members with talents over expectations for high school students, always surpassing previous records they set up. Awkward silence passing, Ena put one earphone into her ear, handing the other side to Mahuyu―which she took right away and puts into her ear without hesitation, just like what they are so used to.
When Ena first heard OWN’s song, her words couldn’t express the overwhelming feelings of expressions. First emotions were amazement, then astonished by the coldness within the lyrics, which eventually led to dissatisfaction, jealously, and emptiness in her own heart.
“Ena, ()”
She hated Yuki, well, Yuki’s words. Her warm comforts and warm words; Ena knew it was all lie, all fake and made up. She hated how she wished to rely on those fake words. She hated everything, hated Mafuyu’s talents, her behaviors towards it, how she wanted to disappear – if she wished to disappear, then I would –
“Ena,”
With her name being called, she gasped, finally escaping from her overwhelming thoughts and emotions.
“…Why.”
“Just wondering why you called me today.”
“Just because. I mean, I don’t have anyone else to invite at this hour… and… and, you didn’t have anything to do anyways, did you? Can I not just invite you?”
“I didn’t say you can’t.”
“…You know, I really hate when you talk like that.”
Staying with Mafuyu was too much for Ena.
“I really hate you, you know.”
“…”
“You know nothing about me, you stupid.”
She wasn’t sad. She wasn’t mad or wanting to cry. It was, it was –
“By the way, you smile a lot these days… It looks good.”
“Does it? You think so?”
Surprised by the sudden change in her voice, Ena turns her head and confronts Mafuyu’s fake smiles. ‘That’s not a smile-‘It was so easy to tell the difference between her natural and unnatural emotions for Ena.
“Okay. Don’t do that. That’s really creepy. …You know what I’m talking about…”
Of course, Mafuyu knew, and Ena knew that.
“Just… continue writing your song, OWN.”
Mafuyu turns her head, realizing her nickname, which now became old and awkward.
“If you do not wish to live as Mafuyu or Yuki,
if it’s burdensome for you to be Asahina Mafuyu,”
“Write your lyrics, as OWN. Burn your life into it. Pour all of your souls into it. Continue writing, write your lyrics. Till end of your life, end of OWN’s life,”
“Then I’ll express your vitality with my paintings.”
