Work Text:
“Lino-Hyung, don’t worry! You’ll find me again someday, yeah? I promise you will, and when you do, we can go out to Han river! Don’t you believe in fate and second chances? I said I would do anything for you to win, and I cannot throw again.”
His smile was bright enough to go up against the sun- despite the upcoming detriment to his life. It’s okay, he’s made enough people happy in this timeline.
Minho deserves to be happy as well, that is his last wish.
“Jisung, what the fuck are you talking about? Throw again.”
Jisung’s hands lied empty, nothing but a few scratches or dried blood adorned them, all from his attempts to shield Minho from all hurt that came his way. All of the crystal-clear marbles stayed unmoving in front of his beat up converse.
“Hyung, I can’t. Unfortunately, I don’t have any marbles left.”
The color left Minho’s face, he stared in horror, seeing all ten of Jisung’s marbles forced into the dirt. Tears welling in his eyes, he looked back at
Jisung.
“I’m sorry, Hyung, but you have to win. Do it for the boys, for your family, for me, okay?”
Minho choked on a sob, forcing his tears back, the tightness in his throat that he knew all too well began forming, “No, no, no! Jisung, why would you fucking do that? It was supposed to be me! I can’t lose you. Not you, please.”
“Number 067, step away from 240.”
The executer with the triangle on his mask stepped forward, trying to break the two away from each other.
Minho’s sobbing only got more desperate. This couldn’t be happening.
“It was supposed to be me! Why couldn’t you listen to your Hyung just this once?”
“You have to win, I told you since the beginning. I’ve served my purpose, this is my last wish. Please win, don’t dwell on me.”
“No, I can’t, please don’t. Please let us play again.”
It became harder to hold back his tears, he knew what was going to happen.
“The Squid games offer the utmost equality between all of the parties involved. If you wish to play again, majority has to agree. There is only two of you, so the one at fault here must agree for you to play again.”
A glint of hope was immediately tarnished after he caught Jisung’s eyes, his expression faltering.
“No. I do not wish to play again. Minho-Hyung, Thank you so much for playing with me. Please try your hardest to win for the rest of the members, and for me. Do it for me, yeah? I wish we weren’t as unfortunate, but, as they say, ‘All good things must come to an end’! I love you, Hyung, never forget that.”
“You were supposed to say yes! Jisung, why would you do this to me? Please don’t go. We can get through this! We just have to think of another way. I promised Chan-Hyung that we would both be safe!”
The executioner approached for the second time today, “Number 067, step away from 240, now. I won’t ask again.”
“Wait! Wait, please wait, how much time do we have left?”
“1 minute, that is all.”
“Please, just give me until ten seconds is left, that’s all I want, please understand. Jisung, please agree to just that.”
Tears flowed down his face, unable to control his emotions anymore.
“Okay, Hyung. Sir, please respect his wishes, we both agree to his request.”
Jisung sucked in a breath, his hands shaking, “Let this be his closure.”
“Fine. 50 seconds.” The man scoffed, backing away for the third time, he just wanted to get this over with.
50.
Minho closed the distance between Jisung and himself, hugging him tightly.
“I don’t know what I’ll do without you. I’m nothing without you.” Minho sobbed into Jisung’s shoulder, shaking with dread.
“You are everything. Please believe that.”
Jisung cupped Minho’s cheeks, bringing their faces closer, making Minho look at him.
40.
Jisung kissed Minho’s forehead, “I would never let someone as great as you in my position. I did this for you. All I ever cared about was you.”
He kissed Minho’s cheek, he might as well spill out his feelings now.
Of course he would do it right before he died.
“Hyung-ah, don’t you realize? All I’ve ever wanted was for you to succeed. To find peace within yourself. To live without struggles. To learn and grow. I was a mere anomaly in your life, your best friend that set you back at first, but then guided you through your journey. My purpose was to help you through your life until I couldn’t anymore. And yet, while doing so, I found myself admiring you in a different kind of way. You make me feel worth something, Hyung. I fell so helplessly in love with you and now I’m telling you in such a reckless way.”
30.
“Why couldn’t you tell me sooner? Jisung, it hurts more. I can’t lose you. Why couldn’t you see the signs? I love you so much more than you could ever imagine. Why would you do this? We could have thought of a way!”
Their foreheads collided, feeling each other’s breath, wanting nothing more than a future that is only in the futile.
His voice was quiet, “I only wanted what is best for you. I had to juggle between being selfish and what you need.”
“Jisung, I don’t care for money, I need you.”
20.
“You need to win, you may need me as well, but I’m only thinking of what will help everyone including you.”
Jisung kissed Minho, stopping his flow of thoughts, this will seal it. This will explain why. Tears tainted his beautiful expression, though he was still glowing.
He’ll always look good to Minho.
The kiss deepened for a second before Jisung pulled away.
“Hyung, I love you more than words can explain, so, as my last wish, I want you to win.”
“I don’t want to lose you.”
“I know, precious, but the both of us can’t go down together.”

Minho was held back as Jisung was taken against the wall, he struggled to get away, only failing as he had to watch his lovers fate.

“please…don’t.”
A gunshot rang through the distance, Jisung’s smile was the last thing he saw.

Number 240, Han Jisung, eliminated.
“All remaining players make your way back to the main hall.”
