baby, it's cold outside

Summary:

Clint, Sam, Natasha and Bucky are staying in a cabin for a few days during the winter holidays. Unfortunately, Clint and Sam get trapped inside due to the blizzard outside. This wouldn't be a problem if Sam didn't have a crush on Clint.

Work Text:

“Who would have thought it’d be snowing in December?”

Sam doesn’t move from his spot by the window as he hears Clint’s voice. He moves the curtain slightly as he tries getting a better look outside. But, all he can see is white. There’s so much snow outside that they aren’t able to leave the cabin they’ve rented for five whole days with the other Avengers.

“Sam?”

“What?” Sam replies, finally, blinking a few times as he looks over at Clint.

“Unfortunately, the snow is not going anywhere,” Clint says, raising his eyebrows. “We’re stuck inside, whether we like it or not. I was thinking of making some hot chocolate. Want any?”

“Sure,” Sam lets out a sigh, and follows Clint to the kitchen. “You think the others are going to make it?”

“What? Are you getting bored of me already, Wilson?” Clint asks, smirking.

“No,” Sam huffs out a laugh, leaning against the kitchen counter. “Not bored at all, actually. I guess I’m just a little worried how they’re getting here. We’ve had this whole trip planned for months now. I mean, guess we should have planned it a little better, huh?”

“It’s not like we can predict the weather,” Clint replies as he gathers the supplies for hot chocolate.

“No,” Sam agrees. “It’s just a little annoying though. We can’t even go outside. Like, literally. The door is being held closed by mountains of snow!”

“I can agree with that. It is annoying,” Clint nods. “Do you like marshmallows in your hot chocolate?”

Sam perks up a little. “Do you have the tiny little marshmallows?”

Clint grins, and then he proudly holds up a bag of tiny marshmallows. “Hell yeah I do. I came prepared for this shit. I mean, who has hot chocolate without marshmallows? That’s just un-American.”

“You are my favorite, Barton,” Sam grins.

Clint laughs with delight. “I’m telling Bucky you said that,”

“God, I’m already regretting saying that,” Sam shakes his head, though unable to help the smile forming on his face, because he’s friends with a bunch of dorks. “Just make your stupid hot chocolate.”

Clint huffs. “See if I put tiny marshmallows in your hot chocolate now,”

Sam rolls his eyes, and pushes himself off the counter, heading into the living room. He glances around, and he doesn’t realize how freezing it is inside the cabin, so he decides to start the fire. He looks over when he hears his phone suddenly ding, surprised that he has any service at all with how the weather is.

Sam grabs his phone, seeing that he has multiple texts from the group chat. He chuckles when he sees the choice of words Bucky has decided to use while complaining about the cold weather.

Bucky: absolutely fuck this weather

Natasha: I have to agree with Bucky on this one

Sam: just be safe getting here, alright?

Natasha: You and Clint are alright?

Sam: we’re fine. made it to the cabin safely. cold as fuck though

Natasha: We’ll be there soon

Natasha: Don’t do anything stupid until then

Sam has no idea how he’s going to make it through these next few days…

“Have you heard from the others?” Clint asks when he finally walks into the living room, two mugs of hot chocolate in his hands. He walks over to Sam and hands him one of the mugs.

“Thanks,” Sam says, relieved when the heat immediately hits his hands. He glances down and sees that Clint did in fact put tiny marshmallows in his hot chocolate. He looks up at Clint with a grin.

“No. I don’t even want to hear it,” Clint mumbles, though a small smile forms on his face as he walks over to one of the chairs. He looks up at Sam. “The others?”

“Yeah, they were just going off in the group chat about how much the weather sucks. Natasha says they’ll be here soon but I don’t know how much I believe that right now,” Sam mumbles.

“You’re Captain America. Aren’t you supposed to be super optimistic during these situations?” Clint asks.

Sam snorts. “Is that how this thing works? I’m still figuring things out,”

Clint shrugs his shoulders. “You just do whatever you need to do, man. I mean, the fact that you’re Captain fucking America now still blows my mind a little bit. I’m not even going to lie,”

“You and I are on the same page about that then,” Sam chuckles, taking a sip of the hot chocolate.

“Although, I must admit, I’m a little upset that we’re no longer Bird Bros,” Clint says.

“Bird Bros?” Sam repeats, raising his eyebrows at Clint.

“Yeah, Bird Bros. You were the Falcon and I’m Hawkeye,” Clint explains, and Sam laughs. “Bird Bros.”

“Man, I didn’t even know anyone was calling us that!” Sam exclaims, shaking his head.

“You should look it up online whenever you get the chance. People say some interesting things, and I’ve also seen some interesting fanart of Falcon and Hawkeye,” Clint smirks.

“I’m gonna have to stop you right there,” Sam chuckles, though knowing that there’s fanart of him and Clint together, he’s nervous if people have caught on that he’s actually in love with Clint…

“Maybe we should pop in a movie? Settle down for the night, and try to stay warm,” Sam suggests, quickly trying to change the subject of the conversation. Clint does not need to know how Sam really feels about him. It’s best that it’s kept to himself. Sam’s terrified of making things awkward.

“Yeah, that sounds good. You pick the movie. I’ll go try and find some blankets,” Clint says, setting down his mug of hot chocolate on the coffee table, and then standing up and heading up the stairs.

Sam lets out a deep breath once Clint is finally gone and it’s just him. He also places his mug down and stands up, feeling his hands shaky. He needs to calm down. He’s going to be spending five days with Clint, and who knows how many days alone with the man until the others get here.

Sam decides to put on Elf, because it’s a classic Christmas movie that everybody loves.

“Elf?”Clint asks curiously when he walks back into the living room, two big blankets in his arms. He raises his eyebrows as he looks over at Sam.

“I’m going to have to throw you outside in the snow if you have an issue with Elf,” Sam argues.

Clint laughs. “No, of course I don’t. I just didn’t think that would be the movie you chose,”

“Elf is a classic Christmas movie,” Sam says, grabbing one of the blankets from Clint to help him. “Christ. These blankets are huge. Where did you find these?”

“In one of the guest bedrooms upstairs,” Clint says, walking over to the couch.

Sam chuckles. “Okay. Just gimme. I’m freezing my ass off,” he reaches for one of the blankets Clint has.

“Who knew Captain America was so demanding?” Clint smirks as he looks at Sam.

“I’m actually going to murder you,” Sam glares at him.

“Ah, yes. Perfect. I can see the headlines now. Captain America is sentenced to life in prison for murdering fellow Avenger and former ex-bird bro,” Clint says, and he looks all too proud of himself.

“Oh my God,” Sam mumbles, before walking over to the couch, plopping himself down.

Sam: Idk if you guys can see this… but I’m going to murder clint. final goodbyes anyone?

Bucky: bye clint nice knowing ya

Natasha: What did he do this time???

Sam: just being his annoying self is all pls get here asap

Natasha: We’re trying, Samuel. We can’t control the weather, okay??? Ugh

Sam starts growing bored after two days being stuck in the cabin with Clint. There’s nothing to do, and there’s not a whole lot of food they have left, and it’s only getting colder. Sam hates cold weather.

“Finally. I’ve been looking everywhere for you,” Clint says when he walks into his shared room with Sam. He finds Sam curled up in the bed, with two blankets on top of him.

Sam looks over at Clint. “Did you need something?”

“No. I’m just bored,” Clint tells him.

“Well, deal with it. I’m fucking freezing, so I’m not moving from this bed,” Sam snaps, though he doesn’t mean to. He’s cold, and when he's cold, he gets a little grumpy. Clint rolls his eyes at Sam’s grumpiness, and makes his way over to the bed, climbing on top of it. Sam frowns. “What are you doing?”

“You’re cold. I’m coming in. Sharing body heat is better and will help warm you up,” Clint says.

Sam doesn’t argue, because he is cold, and he’s not going to complain if Clint is going to cuddle him.

Clint lifts the blankets and scoots next to Sam. He wraps an arm around Sam, and shivers at the coldness. “Shit, you are cold. Why didn’t you say anything?”

“And say what exactly?” Sam asks, shivering.

“Dunno. Would’ve offered cuddles sooner,” Clint mumbles, pulling Sam closer to him, and covering them both with the blankets. “I’ve heard I’m a good cuddler.”

Clint’s right. Sam’s kicking himself now. He could have gotten so many more cuddlers.

It doesn’t take very long for Sam to fall asleep in Clint’s arms, the warmth of his body heat calming him.

Bucky and Natasha arrive a few hours later. It takes them a while before they get into the cabin.

“Where the hell are they?” Bucky asks when they walk into a quiet house.

“That’s never a good sign,” Natasha says, before making her way upstairs, Bucky following her. They look in each room before they finally find the two. “Well, isn’t that sweet?”

“So, do you think Sam finally confessed his feelings to Clint?” Bucky whispers to Natasha.

“I don’t know, but one can only hope,” Natasha says, before taking her phone out and taking a photo.

“You’re going to post that online, aren’t you? Sam’s going to kill you,”

“You think so? I’d like to see him try,” Natasha says, grinning innocently at Bucky.
