“I’m not pouting.”

Or, San and Wooyoung have been dating for four years, but San's obsession with plushies is slowly driving Wooyoung crazy...

Notes:

Hi ! This was supposed to go on Twitter, but it was getting a bit too long so I edited and posted it here instead.

Enjoy the fluff 🖤

Work Text:

It was fine, at first.

San always had plushies, Wooyoung knew about them, which was one of the many reasons he fell for him. A hot, handsome, muscular Taekwondo instructor, sleeping with cuddly toys ? Unexpected, but adorable. The sight helped Wooyoung relax the first time he stayed over at San’s for the night, and he kept a picture of his boyfriend drowning under his toys as his phone’s background wallpaper for months – San’s wallpaper was an unflattering picture of Wooyoung pouting, it was only fair.

So, yeah. It was fine. It was great.

But it didn’t last.

It got worse after San’s birthday, last year, when their close friends thought giving him one stuffed toy each would be a good idea. They did the same thing for Christmas, so Wooyoung ended up with twelve extra plushies – including a big stuffed puppy, thanks to Yunho’s generous wallet –  invading his bed over the span of only one year.

It seemed to grow on San.

After Christmas, and once the new year started, he created some sort of tradition for himself : every month, he buys a new stuffed toy.

And not any stuffed toy, no.

A cream-colored teddy bear that seems to be produced as a series, because each month, the new teddy bear is bigger than the previous one, but its design stays the same.

The one he bought two months ago is the same size as Shiber, one of San’s first plushies. The one he bought last month is twice its size, and ends up with its butt in Wooyoung’s face most of the time.

Wooyoung is an irritable man by nature, but he learned to be patient for San – to be patient with San.

This, though ? This is seriously starting to piss him off.

So, of course, Wooyoung starts brooding when he comes back from a long shower one night, eager to cuddle with his boyfriend, only to find him cuddling with Nana, the stupid banana plushie Yunho – him, again ! – bought him way before Wooyoung ever met them.

Wooyoung makes sure to show his irritation as he climbs in the bed, turns his back to San and throws the blanket above his head.

It’s silent for a moment, until he hears San shift and chuckle.

“Are you jealous of a plushie ?”

He moves again, but Wooyoung stays immobile, arms crossed against his chest.

“I’m not jealous.”

“You’re pouting.”

“I’m not pouting.”

He’s definitely pouting, but San doesn’t deserve to know that.

“My baby is pouting,” San coos. “Let me see your cute pout ?”

San puts a hand on Wooyoung’s shoulder and lightly tugs to make him move, but Wooyoung stays stubbornly put, staring at the wall in front of him with a frown.

There’s another beat of silence before he feels San moving closer and soon, his hand is back on Wooyoung, gentle fingers running along his naked arm. Wooyoung tries his best to suppress a shiver.

“Hey cutie,” San murmurs in his ear. “There’s no Nana in sight. Teddy bears 2 and 5 are at your feet, and you’re using teddy bear 8 as a pillow. But most importantly…” He stops his caresses and Wooyoung almost whines at the sudden lack of contact, but soon enough, San’s arm is around him and Wooyoung’s back is pressed against a strong chest he knows too well. “I’m pretty sure you’re the one in my arms now. Please stop pouting ? For me ?”

Wooyoung can hear the pout in San’s voice, which makes him smile despite himself. He’s a stubborn man, but he’s also in love. Despite his inner voices screaming at him to sulk a bit longer, Wooyoung’s body moves on its own. He turns around without much difficulty and the next instant, he finds himself facing San, still nestled against his chest, in San’s arms, tilting his head up so he can properly look at his boyfriend.

San gives him a pretty smile.

“Hey there, beautiful.”

“Hey.”

Wooyoung glances at the bed, the sheets on top of them, the stuffed toys at their feet. Then back at San. His lips are very tempting, but Wooyoung is still in a sulking mood. He won’t be the one giving in tonight.

“You’re trying really hard to act like Nana being on the floor isn’t driving you crazy.”

“Is it working ?”

“No, but I appreciate the effort,” Wooyoung says. He presses his palms on San’s chest and softly pushes him away. “Go take it back. I know you won’t fall asleep otherwise.”

He receives a – beautiful – dimpled smile in response, and a quick kiss on the nose. Then, San is out of Wooyoung’s reach, on a quest to retrieve his fallen plushie from the floor.

After way too long, he’s back on the bed with not one, but three other stuffed toys. Wooyoung is seriously considering tearing one of them apart in front of San – he won’t ever do that, he’s not a monster – but instead of keeping the teddy bears in the middle of the bed, San carefully places them at their feet, and Nana in his back, on the edge of the mattress. Wooyoung is slightly taken aback by the gesture, but he doesn’t have much time to think about it because he’s suddenly pushed against the mattress, and brought into a fervent kiss.

And he wants to pout, he really does. How dares San shut his sulking time with his stupidly soft lips ? That’s cheating.

But San’s hands are warm on Wooyoung’s body, his eyes glinting when they meet Wooyoung’s, and Wooyoung is just a man. A lovesick man.

He knows he can’t win this fight.

So he cups San’s face and brings him closer, kissing him with passion, tasting his lips until they’re too tired to keep going, both of them panting, hearts throbbing.

And Nana back on the floor – where it belongs.

–

Two weeks later, after a long day at work, Wooyoung enters the apartment with a sore neck and the worst mood of the century. All he wants is a hot shower and a hug, hopefully followed by hours of cuddling with San in front of a movie.

“Sannie ? I’m home,” he calls as he takes off his shoes, wondering why he doesn’t hear his boyfriend’s screams – he usually plays video games at this hour, and he’s not a silent gamer.

He frowns, ready to check the living room, but stops as soon as he steps into the hallway.

Because there’s a box there, a gigantic one. It’s empty, but the picture of a giant teddy bear is enough to explain what it’s supposed to contain. What is probably in his bed now.

And Wooyoung really can’t deal with this today.

He rushes to his and San’s bedroom, ready to either throw a fit or cry because this is just too much for him. He opens the door and… stops.

There’s a new piece of furniture in their bedroom.

White, simple. Wooyoung’s style. Four shelves, different sizes. They’re filled with San’s stuffed toys – Shiber, Nana, his childhood plushies, the teddy bears. They’re all here, neatly placed on the shelves, and not on the bed anymore.

All but one.

The giant teddy bear is on the sheets, facing Wooyoung, a stone blue box with a pretty bow set between its legs.

Still confused by the unexpected changes, Wooyoung enters the room and carefully takes the box. It’s not his birthday yet, and he’s certain none of their important anniversaries are coming anytime soon. San loves pampering him for no reason though, so maybe…

But when Wooyoung opens the box, all he sees is a piece of paper, folded and placed on the white cushion. Perplexed, he closes the box and unfolds the paper.

‘Turn around’, he reads.

He frowns but complies, and he almost jumps when he sees San standing by the door.

“Hey,” his boyfriend says with a small wave.

There’s a nervous smile on his face, and he’s wearing the beautiful suit Wooyoung forced him to buy some months ago for important events, but has never been able to use yet. He’s also holding a huge bouquet of what Wooyoung can recognize as his favorite flowers, and his confusion only grows.

Shit, he really forgot an important date, didn’t he ?

But before Wooyoung can ask anything or start apologizing for being the worst boyfriend in the world, San gets down on one knee.

Wooyoung’s mind shuts down.

The box falls from his hands, and his heart misses at least three beats. San puts the bouquet on the floor and reaches for something in the inner pocket of his jacket.

When he takes out the ring, Wooyoung is already crying.

He’s nodding before San even says a word, which makes his boyfriend laugh.

“I haven’t said anything yet.”

Wooyoung is too overwhelmed to answer and San chuckles again, but his lips tremble and soon, his eyes are filling with tears too. They spark as he looks up at Wooyoung.

“Jung Wooyoung,” he starts, and Wooyoung chokes on a sob, the hands he put on his mouth not enough to muffle the sound.

San’s voice wavers as he continues.

“My love, my life. My best friend. My everything. I’ve been wondering how to do that for months, years even, because you deserve nothing but the best, and I know you’re a picky man– which isn’t a bad thing ! I love your picky side. But... I was scared I would chicken out if I prepared something big or in public so I hope… I hope this is okay.”

He smiles, and Wooyoung wants to cry even harder. His knees tremble and his mind is foggy, but it’s focused on San and San only, even more when his lover starts confessing his love and recalling all the moments they shared together, leading to this day.

It’s sappy, it’s disordered, San messes up three times and drops the ring twice, but Wooyoung loves and cherishes every second of it.

He’s almost back to his normal self, body calm – but the pace of his heart still a mess – until San’s speech comes to an end, and Wooyoung knows what comes next.

“I love you. I’ve never been so sure of anything in my life before. So, Jung Wooyoung.”

San’s voice breaks, but he keeps his head high, his eyes in Wooyoung’s. Wooyoung is pretty sure he stopped breathing.

“Would you marry me ?”

And well, honestly ? Wooyoung doesn’t really remember what happens next. But soon, San’s back is on the floor, Wooyoung on top of him, arms around his shoulders and face in his neck.

“Yes. Yes yes yes yes yes, of course ! I love you so much, San. So so so so much.”

He’s still crying, even when San chuckles and brings him closer, hugging him back and kissing the top of his head.

It takes him a while to calm down, but when he does, he sits up between San’s leg and grimaces.

“I ruined your suit.”

“And I don’t care.”

“I do.” Wooyoung scoffed. “It cost more than your birthday gift and Yeosang’s combined.”

“Your gifts for Yeosang are always too expensive.”

“He’s picky.”

“I guess that’s why you guys are best friends.”

“I guess so, but– wait, why are we talking about Yeosang ?” Wooyoung frowns, putting his left hand in San’s face. “Why is my finger still naked ?”

“Maybe if you didn’t attack me…”

Wooyoung rolls his eyes, but San is smiling. He gently takes Wooyoung’s hand and presses his lips against each of his knuckles, chuckling when Wooyoung groans in frustration. Eventually, he kisses the top of his hand and slides the ring where it belongs. Wooyoung almost bursts into tears again, but he manages to keep it in this time.

“Pretty,” he whispers as he looks at his finger.

“You like it ?”

“I love it.” He looks up, chest warm and heart light as he smiles at his fiancé. “And I love you.”

He cups San’s face and captures his lips with his own, unable to stop himself from smiling and messing up the kiss with his constant giggles, but too jubilant to care.

“If you’re not too tired,” San murmurs once they manage to separate from each other. Wooyoung stays in his arms though, nestled against him, head on his shoulder. He can’t stop staring at his hand. “I’d like to invite you to this really classy restaurant you keep talking about. I made a booking.”

Wooyoung immediately straightens up.

“You’re joking.”

“You know I wouldn’t joke about that, Woo.”

“Oh my god.” Wooyoung closes his eyes for a second, overwhelmed. “We need to get married, now. Or tomorrow at the latest. I’m keeping you forever.”

“Yeah, that’s the point of an engagement.” San laughs. “We can’t tomorrow though. Yeosang planned a ‘he said yes’ party for you. I have no idea what it’s supposed to be, but he seems thrilled.”

Wooyoung snorts.

“Of course he did. I won’t even ask who knew about your little plan tonight. I’m pretty sure they all did.”

San’s silence is enough of an answer. Wooyoung rolls his eyes.

“I should probably call Yeosang though…”

He extends his arm in front of himself and opens his hand, spreading his fingers to properly look at the ring. He feels himself smiling again. He still can’t quite believe this is happening, but when San extends his arm too, pressing his palm to the back of Wooyoung’s hand and intertwining their fingers, he knows this isn’t just a dream.

It’s real. Wooyoung is engaged. The love of his life proposed to him. He’s going to marry San.

Wooyoung giggles, overjoyed, hiding his face in the crook of San’s neck.

“Hey, Sannie ?”

“Hmm.”

“Quick question. Where are we putting the giant teddy bear now ?”
