On the way home from school one day, Yui and Amaya decided to stop by the convenience store to buy some snacks. Since they were open 24/7, given their nocturnal schedule, they were, well....extremely convenient.
While Amaya was checking out the ice cream, Yui stood in the dry snack aisle looking through the various options.
There were chips, cookies, chocolate, Pocky....
Pocky...?
As Yui picked up one of the colorful boxes, it occurred to her that today was November 11. Also known as Pocky Day. What also came to mind was a certain...game that could be played with these snacks.
"Yui, what flavor do you want?"
"Ah!!" Startled, Yui fumbled with the box but managed to catch it before it could fall to the floor.
Amaya tilted her head, holding a couple different popsicles in her hands. "Oh, you want Pocky?"
"And these!" Yui said as she grabbed a couple more random bags off the shelf. Not at all to cover up what she had been thinking. Nope.
"Cheese puffs and peanut butter cookies? Okay."
Yui sighed in relief as they headed to the register. It didn't seem like she had noticed.
They stopped by the park to eat the ice cream before it melted.
Fiddling with her empty wrapper, Yui glanced at the infamous box of Pocky sticking out of the plastic bag, which had been set on the park bench between them. She took it out, turning it around in her hands a couple times before speaking.
"Amaya?"
"Hm?"
"Um...well, I heard about a game you could play with these... Where you race to see who can get to the center first and..."
"Yui, I know what a Pocky Game is."
Yui looked up with a start to find Amaya smiling back at her with a mischievous glimmer in her eyes.
"Does that mean you wanted to play it with me?"
"Huh!? Ah...um, if you wanted to..."
Amaya laughed. "Sure. It does sound interesting."
Swallowing, Yui did her best to open the packaging despite her shaking hands. When she finally got one out, she stuck the chocolate covered end in her mouth and gestured for Amaya to take the other.
Yui felt her heart speed up at their close proximity. They hadn't even started yet but the intent way Amaya was staring at her wasn't making it easy to focus. This had been her idea though, so she forced down her nervousness and continued to meet her eyes. Amaya let out a small intake of breath.
Yui then held up her fingers to count down from three. Her smile dropped.
Two. Her eyes began to shift from side to side.
One. Her hands clenched tightly in her lap.
Finally, she hit zero and they began.
Or rather, Yui did. But after nibbling forward a few bites, she noticed that Amaya was hardly moving at all. In fact, she suddenly realized that her confidence had been wavering ever since she'd begun the countdown and now she seemed to be sitting there completely frozen as pink slowly dyed her cheeks.
It was just so cute.
Yui had barely gone halfway to the center before she surged forward the rest of the way to claim her girlfriend's lips.
"Hn!?"
The chocolate was sweet, but the kiss was even sweeter.
Amaya moaned, going completely pliant as Yui gently cupped her face, thoroughly enjoying her reward as the victor of the game. They were silent when they finally parted. The two held each other's gazes for a moment before quickly turning away, cheeks aflame from embarrassment.
"...This game is much more intense than I expected."
"Yeah…" Yui reached into the box to pull out another stick. "Want to play again?"
"Absolutely."
