Marinette was just preparing to go to bed, when she heard a strange noise on her balcony. She smiled to herself as she climbed up to her bed and then outside. She knew how late visits from a certain cat sounded. Not that he had any reason to be there now, but who knew what was on his mind.
She found him In the middle of her balcony, still transformed, lying with his arms and legs spread out. She grinned down at him, but his eyes were closed. With his hearing, it was impossible for him not to have heard her but if he wanted to play, let him play.
“You look like a starfish,” she commented.
“M’lady, if I was any kind of fish, you know I’d be catfish,” he replied dryly.
“Ha-ha, how could I forget. But well, you don’t look like one right now, sorry.”
He cracked an eye open and as if on command brought his limbs closer to his body.
“Yeah, I can see it now, kind of. You’re just missing the whiskers,” Marinette laughed. “Anyway, what are you doing here?”
“Waiting for you,” he stated the obvious.
“I was going to bed.”
“I know it’s late. I just wanted to make sure you were alright,” he said in a small voice.
“You mean you wanted to check if by any chance I got lost on the way home 2 minutes after we said goodnight?” She bit her lip to stop the laughter spilling this time.
“Something like this.” He sounded a bit embarrassed so she took pity on him.
She sat down next to him and his head was in her lap before she could blink. Her fingers automatically moved behind his cat ears, scratching lightly and it didn’t take long for a purr to fill the air.
“Did my kitty want one more kiss goodnight?” She cooed at him. He just nodded and then looked up at her expectantly.
Her fingers stilled in his hair and she leaned in, her lips brushing his. The sigh of content from him made her whole being sing. She knew him so well. He was like a big cuddly cat.
But it was the fact that he’d gone out of his way, minutes after he’d kissed her goodnight, for one more, that made her feel giddy. It still felt like they had so much time to make up for. So many times when they’d dreamed of the other one but had been alone. No more.
So she kissed him, humming happily, not regretting the late bedtime at all. She had everything she needed right there, so sleep could wait.
“Better?” She whispered after that.
“A little,” he said, but his lips twitched and he smiled. “I will still have to wait until tomorrow to see you.”
“Adrien, that’s in less than 8 hours,” she laughed. Although, yes, a part of her didn’t want to let him go as well.
“That’s a lot,” he huffed, but got up in one swift movement, offering her a hand to help her up as well. Then he pulled her into his arms and just held her tightly.
“Go to sleep and it will be morning before you know it,” Marinette sighed. “You might even dream of something nice in the meantime.”
“The only dreams I want are of you, m’lady.”
“Well, go, and maybe we’ll meet again very soon,” she looked up at him with a smile. He leaned in to kiss her one last time before turning around and disappearing into the night.
“Smitten kitten,” Marinette smiled to herself as she headed to bed. Her smitten kitten.
