A new life

Summary:

When Marinette and Adrien's family grows by one, it's the happiest day of their lives.

prompt: floral

Work Text:

It had all happened so quickly. One minute they’d been sitting at home peacefully, enjoying their Sunday, the next they were rushing to the hospital.

The last thing Marinette remembered was the floral pattern of her dress, cheerful and bright even as pain shot through her. And then their home, silent and empty for the last time, was behind them.

In the hospital, everything was a blur of doctors and nurses, everyone running tests and checking markers. She somehow got out of the floral dress and into a nightgown. Then before she could assimilate it, she’d given birth.

Now she was lying in the hospital bed, tired and sleepy. But she couldn’t sleep, not yet. In her arms there was a small pink bundle that held all her attention and kept her awake.

A kiss to her forehead alerted her to Adrien’s presence by her side. He had been there, a solid and encouraging presence by her side that gave her strength through the hardest times. Now they could both finally relax.

“She’s amazing,” he whispered, awe in his voice.

When Marinette looked up and saw his gaze move from the baby to her, she felt tears fill her eyes. His eyes were full of so much love. It made her own heart swell with love almost to the limit.

She’d been worried, just a little, about how he’d find space in his heart for her and their baby. She shouldn’t have. It was clear that instead of the love he already had splitting in half, it had doubled. He had so much to give that Marinette should have known that the easiest thing in the world for him would be to readily accept this new addition to their lives.

The baby sleeping in her arms was the most amazing miracle. She was hers and his. Their daughter.

Instead of taking away from the love they had for each other, she’d only multiply it and ensure they had more than enough to give to her. They already loved her fully and unconditionally and she’d only been with them for a few hours.

They had already loved her before, when she was the little kicker in Marinette’s belly, filling their days with endless wonders. Now, when she was there with them, taking deep breaths and being ready to study the world, it was just many times stronger.

Just like that, on a bright summer day, their lives had a new meaning and it was the most wonderful thing in the world.
