Work Text:

Although he would never admit it; Druig was rather jealous of Ikaris.

It wasn’t anything to do with Ikaris personally. Druig would choose mind control over flight any day. And he certainly didn’t give a damn about looks.

No, Druigs jealously was simple in its origin. He wanted to have what Ikaris and Sersi shared: he wanted love.

It wasn’t Sersi’s love that he wanted, of course, it was another of his fellow eternals.

Makkari, the ever beautiful Speedster.

The woman consumed his thoughts. Yet despite all his bravado, Druig had no idea how to make his feelings known.

Suddenly, almost as if he willed her into proximity, she appears.

“The beautiful Makkari” He smiles, “You’re late.” He pretends to scold, even though he could not care less, he just enjoyed teasing her.

“I needed artefacts to trade for the tablet” She tells him, before turning her attention to the humans.

He sits back and watches as she deals with them, and is more than amused when she catches them in a lie. The foolish humans soon learn that Makkari was not to be played with.

Druig was not ashamed to admit that practically everything about Makkari intrigued him. She wasn’t hesitant to spend time with him, like some of the others who were suspicious of his mind control abilities. Yet to him it felt like their time together was always brief. Druig was happy to remain still; Makkari was always in motion.

He observes as the trade goes awry. She seems disappointed that the humans didn’t have what she wanted. He wasn’t quite sure why she was so fascinated by the objects of Earth, but like everything else about her, he desperately wanted to know.

He didn’t know much about this emerald tablet, but he was certain he had to find it.

-

Tracking down the artefact was easier than he’d anticipated. He controlled the men that had lied to Makkari, until they had it brought it to him.

When the object was in his hands, he didn’t feel much, but he was satisfied knowing it would bring joy to the woman he cared for.

It took a while before he was able to present it to her. She was always surrounded by one eternal or another. And when she wasn’t he couldn’t get her to slow down long enough to tell her about his find.

“Makkari” He signs and speaks to her “Have you got a moment?.”

She regards him with curiosity, before nodding her head and following him to his room. When they reach their destination, she asks him “What do you need?.”

He offers her a wicked grin, before retrieving the tablet from its hiding place. Her whole face lights up in shock.

“Is that what I think it is?” She signs, delicate hands moving quickly in excitement.

“It might be” He replies.

She moves towards him quickly, and reaches out to take it from his hands. He lets her take it without a fight, enjoying the feeling of her fingertips brushing his. The sensation is new and different; the way their skin feels against one another is like nothing he’s felt before; it’s practically electric.

He watches as Makkari inspects the tablet. Her whole face is alight in wonder.; it makes his heart flutter wildly. Her grip is tight on it, as she suddenly looks up at him in confusion.

“Why?” She asks, her eyes narrowed in what he thinks is suspicion.

“Why what?” He counters.

“Why did you bring me this? How did you even find it?.”

“Makkari” He talks as he signs “Why do I need a reason?”

She doesn’t grace him with an answer, simply raising her eyebrows at him, demanding an explanation.

“I was bored, and out of all the other immortals we’re stuck with, you’re by far the most interesting.”

This brings a smile back to her lips “So it’s just a gift?”

“It’s just a gift, no strings attached, I promise.” He smiles back, and he means it. Whilst he likes to bargain with others, he has no desire to do that with her. He’s just happy to have made her happy.

For a moment she looks at him with a mixture of emotions on her face. The suddenly, she begins to walk towards him. It’s strange, to see her walk so slowly, and he’s not sure what she’s up to.

She closes the distance between them, until they stand toe to toe. Having her so close makes him breathless. He remains perfectly still as she rises up on her tiptoes, and places a quick, gentle kiss to his lips. She smiles softly as she signs “Thank you” to him, before she speeds away. He watches in awe as she disappears in a flash.

(He feels her take a piece of his heart as she goes)

-

Druig pays no attention to the conversations between the rest of the eternals. He plans to save this world, his world, with or without them. Instead, he’s content to circle the ship he once called home.

Makkari had often told him of the amount of treasures she’d brought onto the Domo over the centuries. Yet he’d not laid eyes on it himself; it was as impressive as he knew it would be.

When he has his hands back on the emerald tablet, he feels a wave of nostalgia pass over him. The tablet won’t be as valuable as half of the things she’s found over the years. So to see it there, at the top of the pile rather than buried amongst her treasures, brings a pleased smile to his face.

“So, how did you end up scoring this emerald tablet my beautiful, beautiful Makkari?” He asks, despite knowing the answer.

As he reveals it she tries to take it from his hands, and at first he can’t help but stop her, enjoying the adorable look it brings to her face. She grabs it back from him; she tries to act annoyed, and he loves the way she can’t help but smile at him.

“Did you miss me?” He signs to her, unable to wipe the flirtatious smile off his face.

Her last visit to the Amazon had been only two weeks ago, but to him it felt far too long. She visits him often, and spends lengthy periods living with him. She goes back to the Dumo fairly often, and he understands. Her searching for various treasures helps ease her desire to be constantly moving. He’ll never expect her to stay in one place always, but he’s forever greatful for any time she chooses to spend with him.

His question causes a grin to spread across her face, and he’s not ashamed to admit the effect it has on his heart.

“I’m sorry, what are we watching?” He hears Phastos say.

“Is this new? Because I hate it.” Kingo adds.

The subject is changed before Druig can answer them, which is probably for the best. Still, it boggles his mind how the rest of the eternals have always been so clueless.

His love for Makkari was certainly not new; it has existed for millenniums.
