Marth: The Master of Unlocking

Summary:

Tiki looks at the Fire Emblem on Chrom's shoulder and wonders how it's still in perfect condition.

(Wrote this out of sleep-deprived boredom. Don't expect anything of quality.)

Chapter 1: Marth: Master of Unlocking

Chapter Text

Tiki examined the condition of the Fire Emblem that sat on Chrom’s shoulder. There was not a single scratch nor crack present of the relic. Seeing how the shield was used, 2,000 years ago, it was strange seeing that it was still in perfect condition even after all these years. Then again, its appearance had changed compared to when Marth held it, so maybe…

Chrom noticed Tiki’s staring and raised an eyebrow.

“Is something the matter Tiki?” He asked, catching Lucina’s attention.

“Have you ever used the Fire Emblem to unlock any chests in the past?” Asked Tiki.

Chrom was caught off guard, “The Fire Emblem can unlock chests?”

“I suppose the answer is no, then?” Tiki felt a bit relieved at that.

“I must ask, what prompted you to ask this question?”

Tiki steered the question away. “When Marth held the Fire Emblem, he would sometimes use it to open chests.”

Lucina nodded, “I suppose the Hero King would know such a technique. Do you know how he did it?”

Tiki thought back to the first time she witnessed Marth open a chest with the Fire Emblem.

“Jag-Jag, what is Mar-Mar doing?”

Jagen looked over to where Tiki was pointing and let out a small sigh.

“Prince Marth, please refrain from your chest unlocking tendencies.”

Marth smashed the Fire Emblem into the chest lock a few more times until the lock gave way. The prince opened the chest and pulled out the talisman inside. Storing the trinket away, Marth walked over to Jagen.

“Normally, you would be shouting at me whenever I open chests.” Marth commented as he glided past Jagen and Tiki.

Jagen followed Marth up the stairs,“For good reason, you’ve been using a sacred relic for the lowly purpose of breaking open a chest.” Jagen drew a quick breath, “Not only that, but your method involves slamming the shield over the lock repeatedly, until the lock breaks. As a matter of fact, why are you going around opening locks in the first place? We have two thieves that you requited that have far better capabilities at picking a lock.”

“But they could risk dying from an ambush.” Marth interjected, “Their wounds still haven’t been healed from the last battle they were in.”

“... Prince Marth, the last battle they’ve been to was the one where you got the Fire Emblem that you’re stubbornly using.”

“That’s how bad it was.” Marth said, grimacing at the memory of Julian and Rickard’s state they were found in after the battle.

“I’m sure they can handle a battle now. Maybe if they did, you wouldn’t be carrying around door keys every time we go into battle.”

“Nonsense, one can never be too careful.”

“I think this is the perfect example of being too careful.”

“We were never really sure how he did it.” Tiki said.

“Are you sure?”

“Yes.”
