Quarantine

Summary:

Natsuo hated coronavirus. Of course it was hitting everyone hard, but the circumstances of the pandemic made his life extra difficult.

His villain boyfriend wasn’t helping matters.

Notes:

Fun fact: my word document for this is called “zoomity nyoomity class”

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Natsuo hated coronavirus. Of course it was hitting everyone hard, but the circumstances of the pandemic made his life extra difficult.

His classes were all online, and they were essentially speedrunning material because there was a shortage of doctors to deal with virus patients. Natsuo was only in his first year of medical school, and he wasn't even going to be the kind of doctor they needed, but his professors didn't care. They just needed bodies in the field, and they were pushing students harder than ever.

Fuyumi kept trying to come over to his apartment uninvited to make sure he was still alive and begging him to go check on their mother in the mental hospital, despite the fact that he had told her numerous times that they wouldn't allow visitors in. He reassured her every time that the nurses were taking very good care of the patients, but she wasn't having it. The visits always ended with Natsuo telling his sister to go home as soon as she could and closing the door on her, leaving her standing in the hallway. He was never sure if she did go directly home after that or if she tried to get in to see their mom. He hoped she just went home.

As if that wasn't enough, he had some unwelcome houseguests quarantining with him.

He had been nervous at first when the warp gate had opened in his living room. He had been dating Shigaraki Tomura for roughly a year now, and he was used to hanging out with the League of Villains, both due to his boyfriend and his older brother (Natsuo had nearly strangled Dabi when he found out how alive he was even after they had "buried" him 10 years before). But they almost never just warped right into his living room.

The whole League walked through the warp, something Natsuo had not been expecting.

"Our hideout got raided three hours ago," Shigaraki said. "Nobody was following us, we made sure. Can we stay with you until quarantine is over?"

The whole League promised no villain activity until the pandemic was over. Kurogiri wouldn't be able to get covid due to not exactly having much of a physical form, and Spinner was also immune thanks to his reptilian biology. The rest of the League, however, would have trouble getting treatment if they did catch the virus. It would be harder to overcome it without medical intervention if they were on the streets or in some dirty abandoned bar or something. Plus, Dabi's safety especially had to be considered. He had the weakest lungs out of all of them due to the his quirk and the amount of smoking he did, which would make recovery harder. They didn't want to risk anyone getting sick by still trying to overthrow hero society.

The League may have been villains, but they looked out for their own. They could have gone their separate ways of course. It would have probably made things easier, but none of them wanted to leave each other. They'd never admit it, but they cared about each other as family.

After a long conversation, it was decided that they would stay.

Sleeping arrangements were difficult to figure out. After all, Natsuo was just a college student. His apartment wasn't exactly huge. Shigaraki was going to sleep with Natsuo, there was no question about that. Natsuo had roll-out bed from the times he and his sister snuck their mother out of the mental hospital for a night. It could only fit two maximum, and there was much debate over which two it would be.

Eventually, it was decided that Magne and Toga would get the blow up bed after Mr Compress declared that the gentlemanly thing to do would be to offer it to the girls. The others looked annoyed, though nobody argued with that. After all, Toga was the youngest, so it was only fair she got the bed, and it didn't seem right to force her to sleep with one of the boys.

Spinner quickly staked out the couch, saying that he would drop kick anyone else who tried to take it. Dabi claimed the kitchen counter of all places, which made Natsuo smile. He remembered how his brother used to fall asleep anywhere and everywhere as a child.

That all left Mr Compress and Twice to sleep on the floor (Kurogiri rarely slept, and when he did, he slept standing up. It confused the hell out of everyone else).

The hardest part for Natsuo about living with the League of Villains was not letting his professors and classmates find out.

His first online class since living with the villains was... interesting, to say the least. His teacher required cameras on and mics off during the meeting. Natsuo sat at the kitchen counter with his back and camera angled towards the kitchen. During the 40 minute class, Mr Compress (minus his trademark mask, thankfully), came in to make himself lunch, Magne walked through the camera on her way to the bathroom, and Dabi set the stove on fire, which caused Twice to come running to help put said fire out.

Thankfully Natsuo's teacher was very understanding, if a little annoyed, when he emailed her later apologizing for leaving class early to deal with his "roommates", but he knew he couldn't go on like this until the pandemic was over.

The next day, Natsuo set himself up in his room.

"Hey, Todoroki," one of his classmates asked, "why did your blanket just move?"

"It's just Natsuo," he corrected automatically (he hated using his last name, for obvious reasons). Then he stopped a moment, realizing what the question had been.

The blanket had moved because Shigaraki must have still been asleep. Either that or just waking up. Natsuo mentally cursed himself for not realizing that his boyfriend wasn't awake yet. His apartment had been way more hectic than he was used to that morning, and he hadn't noticed Shigaraki missing from the chaos.

"Yeah, my roommate had a bad dream and he crawled into bed with me last night," Natsuo said.

It wasn't a total lie. Shigaraki had woken up in a cold sweat at around 3 in the morning, his dreams having forced him to relive the day he got his quirk. Natsuo had woken up too, and he comforted Shigaraki, listening to him talk about the dream and holding him in his arms until he was able to fall back asleep.

The rest of class, Natsuo kept glancing anxiously back at the blanket lump, praying that Shigaraki didn't decide to put his head out of the blanket or sit up before class was over.

As soon as the teacher said goodbye and Natsuo clicked to log out of class, Shigaraki sat up.

"I've been awake since you started class," he said. "I figured your classmates wouldn't be so okay with seeing a villain crawl out of your bed so I stayed under the blanket. Are all your classes that boring?"

"It's not so boring when you've never heard half these words before and you're trying to take notes while the teacher says six hundred words a second," Natsuo grumbled. "But yeah, all my classes are pretty much exactly like that."

"Damn. What time does your next class start so I can keep the rest of the League out of here? Not that I think they'll come in anyway since this is your room but..." Shigaraki added, trailing off.

"I've got half an hour." Natsuo flopped face first onto the bed, laying next to Shigaraki. The villain ran a gloved hand over Natsuo's back, smirking at him fondly. After a moment, Natsuo rolled over so his head was in Shigaraki's lap.

"Why did I sign up for this again?" He asked.

"Because you want to help everyone, even though that's literally impossible, but you're way too nice to care?" Shigaraki suggested in a deadpan voice.

Natsuo pushed himself up a little, bracing himself on one arm next to Shigaraki's lap.

"Stop crushing my dreams!" He faked an offended tone. Shigaraki laughed quietly.

Natsuo liked seeing his smile when he laughed. Not the fake, creepy smile he used to intimidate people as a villain, but a genuine smile. He looked almost like a weird cat, which Natsuo found adorable.

Natsuo fake-pouted for a second before leaning up and pulling Shigaraki in, connecting their lips. He wrapped his arms around the older man's neck, smiling into the kiss.

"What the fuck, Todoroki?!"

The two froze, eyes widening. Natsuo turned around to see that he had not, in fact, logged out of class. He must not have clicked the button in the right place. Worse still, his microphone had been on, meaning his classmates who remained on the meeting had heard every word.

"...well, shit," was all Shigaraki said, and Natsuo nodded in agreement.

And then he had to awkwardly explain things and hope nobody called the police
