“Hey, who wants to play board games?”
Bow looked at Adora in horror, rapidly shaking his head and signaling that this was a bad idea.
"I'm down, always happy to kick Sparkles' ass." Catra said, standing up to flick Glimmer's nose. She was pointedly paying no attention to Bow's flailing.
"Oh please, you couldn't even beat Adora when she's drunk!" Glimmer snapped back, jabbing a finger into Catra’s chest.
“Projecting, huh, Princess?”
While the two were bickering, Bow silently pulled Adora to the side, out of the view of the others.
"Adora, why would you suggest BOARD GAMES!?! They'll kill each other by the end of the night!" Bow whisper-yelled, his voice cracking.
"What? It'll be fine! Me and Catra used to play board games all the time in high school!" Adora whispered back. They could both hear Catra and Glimmer arguing over which game to play. Adora threw her hand around Bow's shoulder.
"Come on Bow, it'll be fine, trust me!" She gave him a confident smile, his anxieties waning a bit.
"And, I've got a plan too!" She said, dragging him back into the room. Catra and Glimmer turned to them, not having noticed them leaving during their argument.
"Hey guys, we've gotta go. Somethin just came up, can't turn it down, you know how it is. You guys should stay and have fun though!" Bow looked at Adora in fear, his eyes practically bulging out of his head, but he kept quiet.
"Uh... Okay?" Glimmer said, confused at Bow's expression.
"Alright...? Oh, I know a game I'll kick your ass at. Jenga. Unless you're too scared to go against a master." She poked Glimmer in the chest, a challenge in her voice.
"Oh, you're on! I've never lost a game of Jenga! Bow can vouch for that." Glimmer responded, slapping away Catra's hand.
"Y-y-yeah." Bow squeaked out, nervously waving goodbye as Adora led the two out, a satisfied smile on her face.
"Adora! They're gonna play JENGA!" Bow yelled when they were out of earshot, fear in his voice.
"I know! It's great! Catra loves Jenga!" Adora replied, still happy with herself.
"Adora..." Was all bow could bring himself to say, putting his face in his hands.
Catra and Glimmer had set up the tower, bickering and throwing insults the whole time. Soon, they sat across from each other, the tower between them.
"Since you're obviously gonna get your ass kicked, I think I'll let you go first. Only seems fair, Princess." Catra said, a smirk across her face.
"Oh, fuck off, cat chow." Glimmer replied, taking out the first Jenga block and placing it on the top.
"What? I'm just telling the truth." Catra took her turn, placing her block on the top.
"Bullshit. You're just feigning confidence because you know I'm gonna destroy you." Glimmer said as she looked up and down the tower, searching for her target.
The game continued like that for some time before Catra saw her opportunity. The tower was clearly unstable, and even the smallest of disturbances could send it down. When Glimmer was reaching for her next piece, catra strategically tapped the leg of the table, causing it to lurch to the side.
"Ohhh, what was that about destroying me?" Catra drawled, her smirk growing even larger, as Glimmer put 2 and 2 together.
"YOU MOTHERFUCKER! You bumped the table!" Glimmer shot up and slammed her hands down, fire in her eyes.
"Whaaaat? I would never." Catra winked at her, resting her chin on her hand. A subtle blush formed on Glimmer's face, but she assumed that was due to her anger.
"UGH! You are such a nightmare!" Glimmer yelled in frustration as she shoved her head in her hands. "Best 2 out of 3!"
"Alright, alright, calm your tits. And thanks for the compliment, Sparkles." Catra chuckled to herself as Glimmer started building the tower.
The second round went similarly to the first, both skillfully selecting blocks and placing them at the top. This time, however, Glimmer saw an opportunity.
"Ugh, I need a drink. Hold on." She said when it was Catra's turn again. She got up and started for the kitchen, and right as Catra was reaching for the next piece, she bumped into her, causing her to make the tower fall.
"Oops~." Glimmer said pompously, putting a hand on her hip. Catra just stared at the fallen tower, before her head snapped towards glimmer, teeth bared and her tail swishing side to side. Before Glimmer could react, Catra pounced on her.
After getting over the initial shock, Glimmer fought back. They were rolling around on the floor, their hands locked, trying to pin the other down. Their legs were kicking wildly in an attempt to get the upper hand. Eventually, Glimmer won out, pinning Catra to the floor. The two were glaring at the other, their teeth bared. They both expected the feelings of anger they were experiencing, but what they weren't expecting...
Neither knew who started the kiss, but they didn't care. It was like floodgates were opened, all the tension between them turning into passion. Glimmer's hands moved from pinning Catra's to the floor to holding her cheeks, as Catra's hands immediately moved to Glimmer's hips.
"Bitch." Was all Glimmer could say after they separated, her cheeks flushed and her breath heavy.
"Dumb ass." Catra responded, in the same disheveled state as Glimmer, before pulling her in for another kiss. Glimmer happily reciprocated.
"So, do you wanna actually finish the Jenga game?" Glimmer asked after they separated and fixed themselves up.
"Yeah, I'm gonna kick your ass for real this time, Princess." Despite being the same teasing nickname she was used to, something about it was different this time, bringing a mild blush to Glimmer's face.
"I'm assuming that means no cheating this time?" Glimmer shoved those feelings down for now and put on her confident face again.
"I didn't-" Catra began but was silenced by a glare from Glimmer. She had seen that glare many times before, but something was different this time.
"Fine. I promise not to cheat. You happy, Sparkles?" She made a show of putting one hand to her heart and raising the other in the air. Glimmer smiled and nodded, which caused catra to lightly blush. She shoved those feelings away for now, choosing instead to worry about helping Glimmer build up the tower.
While the game was filled with similar banter to the first two rounds, there was a much different energy this time around. Instead of angering the other, it amused them. They were genuinely having a good time now.
When not blinded by annoyance, Glimmer found Catra's determined stare when looking for what block to choose next cute. She also found that she loved the sound of Catra's genuine laugh much more than the sarcasm-fueled chuckle she usually heard. And then she realized.
"Hey, uh, would you wanna do this again some time? Playing board games, I mean." Glimmer asked on her next turn.
"What, you asking me out?" Catra responded, trying very hard to ignore the part of her that hoped she was. Catra had realized throughout the game that she found Glimmer's smile and laughter adorable and that she was just as fun to banter with as to fuck with, if not more.
"Y-Yes, I am." Glimmer confessed. Catra's heart leaped in her chest, a blush even deeper than when they kissed forming across her face.
"Yeah, sure, whatever, Glimmer." Catra spluttered out, looking away from her. Glimmer simply giggled and placed the next block on the top.
A few months later…
The game of monopoly had been going on for hours now, a life or death battle between the best friend squad. Adora was the first to fall, going bankrupt early in the second hour, and was now napping on the couch. Bow lasted an hour past Adora, but soon fell too, and he was now spectating the match between the final 2.
Catra and Glimmer had been neck and neck the entire game, building up their big hotel spaces, saving their money for the perfect investment, and always being able to scrape together enough money to survive landing on one of the other’s spaces. However, nearly 4 hours after the game started, they were both running low on resources. Whoever landed on the next opposing space was going to lose. With bated breath, Glimmer rolled the dice, and moved her token…
“NO!!!!” She yelled out, slamming her hands on the table. She had just landed on one of Catra’s biggest spaces, and she didn’t have the money. A smirk grew on Catra’s face, leaning back in her chair.
“Heh, better pay up, spa-” Catra began, but before she could finish, Glimmer’s already flipped the table and launched herself at her girlfriend. Bow just sighed as he walked to the couch to talk to the now awake Adora.
“How long did it take this time?” Adora said, yawning, as she watched the “fight” taking place between the two.
“4 hours.” Bow said, as Catra got the upper hand, pinning Glimmer down. “We should probably leave.”
“Agreed.” Adora got up, her and Bow leaving as their friends made out on the floor behind them for the third time this month.
