Revenge is Best Served Warm

Summary:

The best time to spend together is over Christmas Break.

Notes:

Work Text:

Harry waved his friends off to the carriages, settling himself in for another Christmas alone at Hogwarts. Well, not quite alone.

Harry peeked over to where Draco was also waving his friends away. Draco’s parents chose to cruise the Mediterranean this year instead of having Christmas at home, and Draco elected to stay at Hogwarts rather than spend a week on a boat.

Their collective friends didn’t know, but Harry had been seeing Draco for the last several months. Some yelling and punching fight turned into a kissing fight and…really, Harry isn’t sure how it all came about. But he wasn’t complaining. Kissing Draco was one of the best experiences of his life. At 16, Harry hadn’t kissed a lot of people, but he’d experienced enough things to say that kissing Draco was still pretty tops.

As they both turned away from their departing friends, Harry caught Draco’s eye. The slight smirk Draco shot him let Harry know he’d be seeing him again tonight. Harry was already anticipating it.

The day passed with Harry spending time with the few other Gryffindors who stayed over break, and Luna, who somehow managed to find her way into Gryffindor Tower, but with nary a complaint from anyone there.

As the afternoon progressed, many of Hogwart’s students made their way outside to play in the still falling snow. There were snow angels and the older kids helped the younger make snowmen. Harry helped Griselda Havencroft, a first year Hufflepuff, wrap her own House scarf around a tall snowman that they’d made.

When some of the older Slytherins came out, a heated snowball fight broke out. Harry was ducked behind a makeshift barricade with Dean, hurling snowballs at whoever happened to be in the way. It was more a free for all than teams, but Harry and Dean made a quick truce in favour of hurtling snowballs at the cheating Slytherins.

Harry darted away to find a better spot behind a wall. It concealed him from the majority of the fighting and would be perfect for long-range attacks. Just as Harry stepped behind it, he came face to face with his boyfriend. Harry stopped in his tracks, preparing to retreat and find a new spot when Draco yanked him forward behind the wall completely.

“Well look what I’ve caught,” Draco teased.

Harry glanced behind them. The space really wasn’t terribly big, and anyone could walk by and see them at any moment.

“Calm down,” Draco told him. “I’ve been over here for the last 20 minutes and no one else has thought of coming to this spot except you. I’ve nailed quite a few people from here.”

Harry relaxed in his hold. “Been keeping yourself safe from the fight, have you?”

Draco smirked at him. “It’s much better to be the one hurling snow than to be the one getting it hurled at them.”

Harry rolled his eyes at him, but conceded he snuck here for the exact same reason.

“But while we’re both here….”

Harry was pulled closer to Draco, until they were flush against each other. Harry felt the warmth of him even through their several layers. Or maybe he imagined it, felt like he was burning up anytime he was this close to Draco. Felt like he would ignite anytime the anticipation of kissing Draco threatened to become too much.

He felt it now, when Draco touched their lips together. Harry forgot about the snow, the cold, the snowball fight, and the risk of someone discovering them. All he felt was the heat of Draco’s lips on his, how they moved together so smoothly, how their tongues fought and retreated and acquiesced to the conquering.

Harry opened his eyes, not even sure when he had closed them, and not sure when he’d flipped their positions and had Draco pinned to the wall of their hideaway. Harry watched Draco’s own eyes flutter open, watched his usually cocky grin grow softer around the edges.

“We’re really good at that,” Draco laughed.

Harry couldn’t disagree.

“Still, there’s something else I’d like to do while we’re back here,” Harry said.

Harry watched as Draco’s eyebrow arched and his smile turned mischievous.

“Really, Potter? And what’s that?”

Harry ducked down, grabbed a fistful of snow, and smashed it in Draco’s face.

“You can’t escape getting hit forever, Draco!”

Harry ran out from behind the wall, laughing and dodging Draco’s cursing and hexes.

Harry slipped away to rejoin the snowball fight, completely forgetting that he’d original went to the wall to gain an advantage. He left Draco to continue his own long-range attacks, while Harry dived directly into the fray.

Hours later, the students were warm and dry and at one long table in the Great Hall. Draco was ignoring Harry, but Harry knew that his boyfriend was plotting revenge in some way or another. In a weird way, Harry was looking forward to that, too.

Just as Harry was getting ready to retire to his common room, a note smacked him in the back of his head. Harry rubbed the sore spot and looked around, but it was impossible to tell where it had come from. There were too many people getting up to leave and no one was looking back at him to give themselves away. Harry unfolded the note and read:

The Room of Requirement. One hour. -D

Harry chuckled. Trust Draco to invite him for some time alone by literally knocking him upside the head. He returned to the common room with his housemates for a while before slipping away. Harry crept down the seventh-floor corridor and walked before the hidden entrance three times. When the door appeared, Harry slipped into the room to find a cosy area with a fireplace, a sofa before it, and a table beside that.

Draco was sitting on the sofa waiting for him.

“C’mere, Harry. I had the elves bring us some hot chocolate.”

Harry smiled and joined him. When Draco looked at him smugly back, Harry started to get suspicious. He stared down at his cocoa like it was poisoned. Draco laughed at him.

“Don’t worry. I will get you back for that snowball, but I’m not going to poison your drink.”

Harry relaxed a bit and sipped his chocolate, humming happily at the sweet taste.

They talked and cuddled in front of the fire, recapping the snowball fight, their plans for the break, and what they hoped to get for Christmas. Draco summoned a house elf for some pudding and arranged it on the side table.

When he handed Harry his treacle tart, Harry dug in greedily and let the flavour dance across his tongue. He had a few bites and tried to take another when he felt his tongue beginning to swell. He stared down at his tart in confusion before swinging his eyes to Draco, who was staring back at him, smirking and holding up the wrapper for a Ton Tongue Toffee.

Harry tried to curse him, but his tongue was too heavy and all he could manage was some mumbled oaths.

Draco laughed delightedly, then smiled his amusement. “I never said I wouldn’t poison your food, Potter.”

Harry scowled at him, but saved his words for when his tongue weighed less than a ton. Draco kissed his nose and smiled at him some more, easing some of Harry’s irritation. It was annoying that Draco being cute made Harry less mad.

“Oh, perk up, Harry. That’s the worst I’ll do to you. I could have done much more damage for you shoving freezing-cold snow in my face.”

Harry thought about it and shrugged. True. Draco could be quite vicious when seeking revenge.

“Exactly. And now I’m done, so we can enjoy the rest of our evening.”

Draco cuddled back up to Harry’s chest and Harry wrapped his arms around him. When his mouth was back to normal, Harry did air his grievances, but Draco just laughed him off and kissed him happy again.

They continued their talking until the night grew very late. Instead of sneaking back to their separate common rooms, they decided to sleep in the Room for the night, and Draco summoned a bed nearly as big as the Room and as posh as Harry had ever seen.

Harry rolled his eyes at his boyfriend again, but stripped down to his boxers and climbed in the bed readily enough. When Draco joined him, Harry let Draco pull him into his arms. Harry bent his knees, spooning himself against Draco’s chest and pulling Draco’s arm across his own stomach so he was tightly enclosed. Harry felt a kiss to the top of his head and he settled down further.

“Goodnight, you arse,” he said.

“I’ll hear no complaints, Potter,” Draco mumbled into his hair. “I have it on very good authority that you quite like my arse.”

Harry groaned into his pillow while Draco laughed behind him. His boyfriend was such a knob.
