Work Text:
Letting its steps guide it the Nahobino returns to the safe haven of the fairy settlement, where it finds a quiet spot by the river to sit down and observe the gently flowing water. If any of the nearby creatures looked at it, they would probably say it looks as unfazed and calm as ever. As Aogami said the very first time they merged this new form takes the likeliness of his body, and so it doesn’t really allow the marble-carved face to morph accordingly to the human’s currently overwhelming emotions.
Yes, he is reminded time and time again that this body isn’t entirely his own. Too strong, too tough, too cold, too… unresponsive at times. He didn’t even have time to process what was happening before he found Sahori’s body going limp in his arms, the energy blade in his hand getting soaked with warm blood.
Demons don’t usually bleed. They don’t have faces he’s seen day after day at school, nor tear-flooded eyes clouded by sadness and regret. Their bodies soon turn into red wisps that scatter into the winds, no gaping wound in their chest remaining.
Wounded chest…
The frazzled human raises the neon-blue fingers to where his thrumming heart is, feeling the smooth surface that a moment ago was also punctured in the same brutal manner. He isn’t entirely sure how it happened, but Tao… She also...
The shaky, feared infused breath he tries to take in comes out as calm, relaxed breathing. He’s tried to keep it together, but this is too much for him, far too muc–
“Young man,” Aogami suddenly speaks up, his tone betraying the mix of confusion and concern that plague his conscience.
The voice reminds the panicked human of the presence of his companion. Of course, Aogami probably acted on his logic driven instinct – Lahmu was a threat, not only to their lives but to Bethel’s goals, and that threat thrived inside Sahori, so she had to be eliminated.
He understands that line of thinking. He also knows Aogami isn’t entirely happy with the outcome either; if his earlier concern for Tao’s end is anything to go by. Sadly, he isn’t able to provide much of the comfort the proto-fiend previously spoke of, he himself too shaken at the moment to be of much help.
All he can do for now is mentally nudge his other half, at least letting him know he’s heard him. Aogami nudges back, and the human takes a second to breathe again, allowing the Nahobino’s eyes to close.
As he is enveloped by total darkness, he suddenly feels something wrapping around him. He is startled at first, until he notices that the gentle constriction comes from Aogami’s arms. He feels his small human body being carefully pressed against the fiend’s chest, one of his hands beginning to rub his head slowly.
It takes him a moment to understand that Aogami is repaying the favour, trying to comfort him. The recent reboot sure did expand his capabilities quite a bit.
With the same hesitance as when he took his hand, the boy wraps his thin arms around him in the same manner, hiding his face in the proto-fiend’s neck. The demon’s usually cold body starts to warm up thanks to the close contact with the human’s, giving the gesture an unexpected amount of tenderness.
The Nahobino curls its godly form into itself, iridescent hair swaying with the gentle wind of the fairy village, as the two beings that form it remain tightly embraced.
