Work Text:

Kuramochi and Miyuki's relationship wasn’t a secret. During their high school life, you can see them latching on each other during lunch time. They are always together even after school. On their way to the field, you can hear an obnoxious laugh from there. You can hear their loving banters every single day. Their relationship was healthy. Was.

The real problem in their relationship started when Miyuki opened the topic of him going pro one dinner. Kuramochi is supportive, all right. How can he not? His boyfriend, the great Miyuki Kazuya, is finally doing what he loves and what he’s dreaming to be ever since he held his catcher’s mitt for the first time. Playing on a larger field in front of more people. So, how can he not be happy for Miyuki, right?

It was when Miyuki told him to keep their relationship in secret. Not because Miyuki doesn’t anyone to know that he has a boyfriend, but for the scouts to not judge Kuramochi as someone who will distract Miyuki while drafting for MLB. Kuramochi hated the idea, and he didn’t even bother to hide it. Miyuki was having a hard time, too. But when you love someone, you’ll do anything to support them, right? And so, Kuramochi agreed to it. Fine, as long as Miyuki get to achieve his dream. It is presented in front of him, who am I to stand on the way?

Their communication didn’t waver. Or so they thought. It was fine until Miyuki had to do longer batting practices, longer workout time to maintain his body. It was hard enough for them to be apart, what more with the situation that they can do nothing about. They barely had the time to talk to each other. They used to have specific time to talk about each other’s days. Miyuki used to talk about how excited he is with the new menu given to him. Kuramochi used to complain about how his professor in a specific subject give them tight deadlines. They used to be each other’s ears. Not until no one dared to open their mouth for someone to listen.

Weeks have gone by, and they started to drift apart. Miyuki never answered any of Kuramochi’s calls and he never dared again after a month of trying. He used to understand Miyuki’s situation, but he realized that doesn’t deserve to sit and wait for someone who is not even trying to know if he is still alive. And so, after three months of glancing on his phone if it will light up by a caller named, ‘him’, he started to go on with his life without the ‘Miyuki Kazuya’ inside of it.

He was, one Wednesday, sitting by the table near the counter on a coffee shop when his phone suddenly rang. ‘him’ was calling. Oh, I haven’t changed the contact, yet.

He was just staring at it and the series of memories went flashing like a light in his mind. From where they started dating to the breaking point. He snapped out of his train of thoughts when the caller ended the call. Just about when he thinks that the other person won’t try again, his phone started ringing loudly once again.

He immediately picked it up to not bother the people inside the café more. He slid the ‘answer’ button to the right, put the phone against his right ear, and heard the familiar breathing on the other line.

“Hey,” Miyuki breathed.

Oh, how Kuramochi missed that voice. Oh, how he wished for the other person to say his name straight away as he loved the sound of it coming from him. Oh, how he prayed he heard this three months ago.

“Hey,” he greeted back, hoping his voice did not give away the thought of him longing for Miyuki.

Miyuki inhaled and said, “Do you think you can ship my things on your flat by Sunday? I need them.”

That was not the message he was hoping for. That was not the words he was expecting to come out of Miyuki’s lips after three months of not reaching out to him. This made Kuramochi flinch, eyes widening at the thought of Miyuki shaking off the problem in their relationship, if there was still a connection between them.

“Really, Kazuya?” Kuramochi snorted. “This is what you tell me after months of ignoring me? After how I waited for your messages? This is what I get? Not even an explanation?” Kuramochi burst. He didn’t like the idea of him having a fight with Miyuki over a phone, but this was too much. He feels like he deserved an explanation still.

“Kuramochi, not now. I have a lot on my plate.” Miyuki sighed.

Wow, Kuramochi? Who the fuck is that? Where was the Yoh? Damn, it wasn’t even Youichi.

Kuramochi started laughing hysterically. “Wow! Did I contribute something on that plate?”

Miyuki was about to say something but the other cut him off.

“Don’t worry, I will remove myself on that fucking plate. You don’t have to do updating shit on me. I’ll ship everything to you on Sunday,” he silently shouted each word on the phone and ended the call.

He sighed loudly. Damn, this is what he gets for months of hoping. He collected of all things and started walking out of the café. He is now out of the mood to study. He annoyingly waved at a cab and instructed to drive on the way to his flat. He’d make sure to pack everything.

----------

Miyuki’s alarm went off. He reached for it to turn it off, but he was reminded that he has an important game today. So, he forced himself to wake up despite the fact that his head was aching crazy because of the jetlag. He waited for this moment. They’ll be playing at Tokyo Dome.

He started walking towards the kitchen of his suite and prepared himself a coffee. As he waits for it to be completely brewed, his mind started going back to the memories of the past. Just like what happens every morning ever since Kuramochi left him.

Miyuki misses the way how his coffee smells mixed with Kuramochi’s scent. He misses how Kuramochi put the right amount of water in his coffee, never too much and never too little. Just like how his love for him. It was never too much to the point of as if he is in a chokehold. It was never too little to leave him craving for attention. It was enough. He was enough.

Miyuki misses slow mornings with Kuramochi. How the other would pull him back to the bed just because. He misses how they miss their established schedule because who cares about a fixed day, anyway?

Sure, being a pro player was a good career for him. But who was he doing this for? For himself? But he liked himself best when he was with Kuramochi. He misses his life with Kuramochi. He misses everything with Kuramochi in it. He is missing Kuramochi Youichi.

And for the first time, it was too much. The amount of how much he misses Kuramochi was overflowing. For the first time, it was too little. He paid Kuramochi an attention too little. Which caused him to slip away. And he regretted letting it happen. He regretted how he wasn’t able to return any of Kuramochi’s call prior to their last conversation. He regretted how he never called Kuramochi back. He regrets everything.

Now, he’s sitting on a suite at a hotel in Tokyo, same city where he left Kuramochi. And he hopes he is still here, even if it is beyond impossible. Who would wait for someone who never bothered to let you know what is going on with them, right? But he still hoped.

----------

Miyuki and his team were walking towards the dugout as they won the game. There were people on the bleachers cheering loudly for them. He always loved the roar of the crowd. It always gives him goosebumps especially when he is at bat. So, he looked up towards the bleachers to thank them with his eyes.

But it met another pair. Familiar pair. A pair of eyes he has grown to love for years. A pair of eyes that greeted him mornings. A pair of eyes that made him fall deeper than anybody else can reach. A pair of eyes that he longs for. A pair of eyes that belongs to Kuramochi Youichi.

He kept staring at him for a while until Kuramochi turned his back on the field which caused Miyuki to panic. He immediately removed his gears and run out of the dugout, not even bothering to grab his bag. His teammates were asking where he is going but he can’t answer them right now. Not when he needs to give an explanation to someone first. He needs to talk to him.

He was out of breath when he reached the exit door of the Dome. He kept turning around to look for a green-haired man when he was tapped by someone. Thinking that they were a fan, he was about to shout not now as he has something important to do. But when he turned around, presented in front of him is the man he is looking for, longing for.

Unable to gather his thoughts, his eyes started shaking.

“Kura— Yoh! I am sor—”

He was cut off when a pair of arms was wrapped around his neck. Shocked, he wasn’t able to say anything more.

“Kazuya, I understand. I always will.” Kuramochi stated, arms still around Miyuki’s neck. “I love you too much so I will always understand everything.”

“But—”

“No buts, love. I gave you time to achieve your dreams as I was achieving mine. I am now a certified architect,” he pulled out from the hug. “Preferred by a lot of popular companies, by the way.”

Standing in front of Kuramochi is Miyuki, who is still in awe. How could someone love him more than what he thinks he deserve? Which he thinks he doesn’t deserve at all? And Kuramochi is able to do that. Make his heart twist a million times, in pain, in happiness. Only Kuramochi can do that.

“Hey,” Kuramochi waved in front of Miyuki’s face. “Are you ok—”

“Can I kiss you?” Miyuki blurted out of instinct.

“Oh, that was what you were thinking?” Kuramochi laughs. “Yeah, sure, I gue—”

Miyuki didn’t give him the time to say anything more. He kissed Kuramochi tenderly, as if he was going to break any time. Taken aback for a while, the latter started to kiss him back as passionate as ever. The kiss that washes their worries away. The kiss the makes up for the lost time. The kiss that has been waiting for years to be offered. The kiss that was from each other.

At the end of the day, it is Miyuki and Kuramochi who will always understand each other in every way. At the end of the day, they will always find their way back to each other. They will always find their way back home. And for Miyuki, home is wherever Kuramochi is.
