The Love Story segment

Summary:

In which Wendy wants to take this chance to sing to one of her listeners.

Notes:

Hello! This is my first time writing for wenrene heh. I hope you forgive me for the small, noticeable mistakes. I have been dividing my time with college. So like I was inspired when Wendy sang "Like I do" by the millennial club and the small hints that Irene could be listening or watching Youngstreet. Anyways enjoy!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“Wendy-shi.”

The deep voice of the radio producer snaps Wendy out of her thoughts. She sets her mic down and presses a switch. “Yes?”

“You got this,” He raises his fist. “you’re fine!”

Wendy smiles and raises her fist, “I got this!” she takes a deep breath and sighs. The shakiness of her fingers seems to lessen. “I can do this… I got this.”

“We’re going live in 2 minutes.”

I can do this.

As the familiar tune of guitar strings starts, and the red-light signal catches her eyes, Wendy starts with her narration.

“Many winters ago, a man had an unexpected struck of feelings by chance at a friendly gathering. To start off, he invited his closest friend to his house to taste-test a new dish he made.”

“He readies the dish and places it in front of her “Ok, give it a try, and be honest with it. I can take it.” He says as he carefully watches her eat.”

“She gives her critique, and he felt down, but she adds, “You might think that you’re still far to reach your goal. But I know you’re just halfway there. You can still make a dish of your own. I believe in you.”

“With that, he started to see her in a different light. She was always at his side, cheering and supporting him even when he didn’t believe in himself. He confesses a few weeks later, and to his delight, she reciprocates his feelings and they start to date.”

“Time passed and it was their 100th day as a couple. His idea of a gift was to make a dish that he grew up with when his mother cooked for him, but with his own twist.”

“When his girlfriend came over, he was surprised to see a booklet presented to him. Inside was written poetry, she said it was all about how she was proud of his passion and how she fell for him.”

The music plays, and Wendy leans back on her chair. She takes her bottle of tea and takes a sip. She watches the comments and chuckles about how the listeners were describing how cheesy the story was.

As the music finishes, Wendy says, “The story belonged to a man with a nickname “JWJ.” If I’m understanding it right, it seems like she had feelings for him before he could understand his own, right? She wrote poetry about how she loves and supports his passion.”

Wendy reads a comment. “7891 said, “Wah they must have really good feelings for each other…”

“Right. It’s really amazing to hear how much thought they put in making their gifts.” Wendy nods. She reads another comment.

“Choi Hoseok says, “That’s a definition of soulmates~ I hope they have a healthy relationship~~”

Wendy goes in awe. Judging from the positive comments, maybe she could share her feelings.

Here goes…

“Actually,” Wendy straightens her posture. Her hands were starting to get clammy. “Recently, I have been finding myself saying, “Would it be ok if you could listen to this?” or “I want to sing this song to you.”

She gulps and looks up from the computer screen. Wendy smiles at the thumbs up from her scriptwriter unnie, raised fists from her manager, and the slow nod from the producer.

“I found someone that makes me say these things.” She says, “And I want to take this opportunity to let the wansos know before hearing it from someone else.”

Wendy takes a look at the screen, and she sees the comments starting to flood. Most of her listeners sent surprised stickers, and some were stickers of excitement.

“This story made me think about this person, the way they both put effort on their skills just to create a gift that shows how much they care for each other.” She grabs the mic and shows it to the camera. “I would like to do the same.”

“I hope you’re still listening right now because I want to sing this song to you.” Wendy smiles at the camera and clears her throat.

“I see you pulling up to meet me in your car

I know you didn’t have to drive, you don’t live far from me

I know we’re friends but baby something’s on my mind

And I apologize for taking all this time

But I got to tell you

No, I cannot pretend I don’t love you like I do

No, I cannot pretend I don’t love you like I do

No, so why should I pretend the feeling isn’t true

No, I cannot pretend I don’t love you like I do

I feel like I got to”

-

After the small fan services and the gifts Wendy received, “Everyone, I’m going to have to go home now. Thank you for the gifts, and I will see you next week!” She shouts, but before she can close her window, a couple of her fans catch her by surprise.

“WanD!” A fan shouts, “Whoever this person you’re seeing.” Followed by a few more voices, “I hope the both of you live happily!”

Wendy pauses and looks out, her eyes finding the sources of those words. She smiles even though they can’t see it, but little does she know, her fans can feel the happiness in Wendy’s eyes.

“Thank you.”

Wendy waves goodbye to her fans and closes the winder of the car door. She quietly wipes the tears that are starting to form. Her phone rings, and she brings it out from her bag. She smiles when she sees a certain name on her screen.

‘Come home quickly’

‘I want to kiss you’

‘But come here safely’

*Extra scenes*

A buzz on her phone catches her attention. She sets down her pencil and picks up her phone. She reads a message from Wendy.

“Are you planning to listen to the radio later??”

“Yeah of course. You know I wouldn’t miss it”

                                                                                                                                                   “Yeah I know”

                                                                                                                                                             “I just”

“Is there something wrong?”

                                                                                                                                                     “NO no no”

“I’m planning to sing later and”

                                                                                                                                                     “You’ll see”

                                                                                                                                                       “Or hear”

“You’re going to sing? I shall watch the radio with expectation~”

                                                                                                                   “Nooo now I’m getting nervous”

“I’m kidding hehehe, I’m sure you’ll do great!”

“You always do, especially when it comes to singing.” Although Irene sighs, she can’t stop the smile on her face at the thought of Wendy getting a chance to sing later on her radio.

-

“Actually,” Wendy pauses, “Recently, I have been finding myself saying, “Would it be ok if you could listen to this?” or “I want to sing this for you.”

Irene stops her sketch and looks at her phone. “Huh?”

“I found someone that makes me say these things.” She says, “And I want to take this opportunity to let the wansos know before hearing it from someone else.”

“Is she…” Irene pauses. She watches how Wendy’s hands have been slightly shaking. Her heart throbs with growing affection.

“This story made me think about this person, the way they both put effort on their skills just to create a gift that shows how much they care for each other.” She grabs the mic and shows it to the camera. “I would like to do the same.”

“I hope you’re still listening right now because I want to sing this song to you.”

-

‘Come home quickly’

‘I want to kiss you’

‘But come home safely’

Irene sends and locks her phone. She buries her face on her pillow, her ears were warm, and her heart was beating fast.

Just you wait Son Seungwan…

Notes:

Imagine the idea of Wendy having the chance to serenade during her radio time heh. Please let me know how you felt about it, kudos and comments are appreciated!
