Work Text:
You couldn’t stop smiling. Being there with Lewis, your crush, felt too beautiful and perfect not to let yourself enjoy it. A part of you thought he felt just as bashful as you, judging by the way he stood by the shore while you swam in the water. Still, he would cutely wave and smile at you whenever you glanced his direction.
“Lewis!” You called him, earning his attention. “Are you sure you don’t want to come in the water? It’s really nice!”
“No, thank you” He held his book up to demonstrate. “But I’m looking forward for when you decide to join me here in dry land”
You chuckled, earning another beautiful smile from him. His expression, however, changed when something behind you caught his eye.
“Y/N!” He exclaimed, jumping to his feet and pointing a finger to the sea. “Look out, a big wave!”
You turned your head to see the big wave. The sky had even turned darker, and with that sudden change of weather so had the tides. Yelping, you braced yourself for the big wave that you had no time to escape.
Before you knew it, you were violently pulled under water. Trying to float, you pushed upward and frantically swam only to be shaken by the sea. Water filled your nostrils and your lungs, and the salt stung in your eyes.
You were drowning, no matter how adamantly you fought against the force of the sea. But suddenly, two arms wrapped around your frame and pulled you to the surface. As soon as you could, you took a deep breath to finally take in some air.
“Are you alright?” Lewis’ alarmed voice rang in your ears.
You couldn’t reply, only being able to cough water and shake in fear and freezing still. Lewis kept you both afloat, leaning your back against his chest. Exhausted and restless still, you weakly rested your head on his shoulder.
“Don’t worry, I got you” He told you over the roaring of the waves as it slowly subsided to a more benevolent force. “I’ll get you to shore, just breathe”
You tried to do as he said, focused on taking deep breaths as he swam to the sand. He carried you, constantly whispering comforting words, until you finally made it back.
Once there, you feebly plopped down in the sand and shrunk over yourself. You looked up when you stopped feeling Lewis’ arms around you, and you were about to ask him to stay by your side when you saw him. He had returned to the place he had been sitting in, but he was running to you once again, carrying his towel.
The instant he was by your side again, he plopped down next to you and put the towel over your shoulders. Thanking the warmth, you huddled under it and snuggled closer to him seeking his comfort as well.
“You’re alright” He reminded you, energetically rubbing your arm over the towel. “It’s over now, you’re alright, Y/N”
“T-Thank you” You stuttered, realizing how hoarse your voice was and how much your throat hurt. “You saved me, Lewis”
“It was nothing” He passed a hand through his wet hair to get it away from his eyes. “How are you doing?”
“A little better” You managed to say, even if you were still shaking from head to toe. “Thanks to you”
Lewis sweetly smiled at you, never halting his movements to try to keep you warm. Moved by a sudden urge of gratitude, you inched closer until you pecked his lips.
“Wow” He exclaimed, suddenly turning several shades redder. “Maybe next time you don’t have to almost drown for us to kiss, huh?”
You laughed, even if it developed in a brief coughing fit. Lewis chuckled a little, embarrassed, and remained silent now.
Neither of you spoke for a while after that. He just put his arm over your shoulders and held you tight against him as you recovered. Once the scare had passed and you were starting to get warm again, you felt a lot better. Even then, none of you moved from that position.
