Taking Care Of Jake When He Gets Hurt On A Case

Work Text:

The door slowly swung open, and you quickly turned. Who could it be? Jake couldn’t be home already, he still had many more hours of work left. You didn’t expect anyone, and you certainly didn’t expect him. Still, there he was.

“Jake...” You uttered, leaving what you were doing and walking over to him. “What are you doing here, is everything-?”

Your question was left hanging in the air when you took a good look at him. His cheek was badly bruised, he painfully clung on to his ribs and he was limping. Your heart skipped a beat at the sight of him weakly walking in.

“Terry and Captain Holt told me to go home” Jake replied, avoiding your eyes, and he was already opening his mouth to continue when you interrupted him.

“You’re hurt...” Your voice broke as you rushed to his side and held him up.

“Don’t freak out, okay?” He insisted, reluctantly letting you help him inside despite refusing to look at you still. “The doctor said I’m fine, I’m just a bit bruised”

You worriedly walked with him, helping him sit down on the couch and gingerly removing his leather jacket. While you went to put the garment over a chair, you noticed Jake refused to stand still.

“I gotta keep working” Jake made to stand up, but you were quick to run back to him. “I can’t just sit-”

“No, of course you can!” You interrupted him, carefully sitting on his lap even if with determination. “You’re not moving from here, Jake”

“C’mon, Y/N...” He tiredly said despite the small smile on his lips. “Let me up”

“If you can lift me up, you’re free to go” You challenged him, holding his stare.

“Easy” He wrapped his arms around your frame and pulled, straining as he tried to lift you off him.

Despite how amusing it was, especially given the goofy faces he was making, you stirred and pushed him a little to keep him from further hurting himself.

“Stop it!” You gently slapped his hands, swatting them off you. “Jake, you need to rest!”

“Ugh, fine...” He begrudgingly leaned back on the couch. “You’re impossible”

“I don’t care if you get mad at me” You defied him, angrily crossing your arms over your chest. “But you’re hurt, so I’m going to make sure you get plenty of rest”

Expecting to see him pouting or scowling at you, all your defenses broke when you peered at him. He was watching you fondly, tilting his head and smiling to himself as he stared at you.

“Why... are you looking at me like that?”

“Nothing, it’s just...” Jake sighed, still staring at you like that. “You really care about me, huh?”

“Of course I do!” You carefully leaned over him, resting against his chest and looking up to kiss him in the cheek. “I love you, stupid”

“I love you too, silly” He gently held you against him, kissing you in the head to reinforce his words.
