Taehyun let out a soft, barely audible sigh as he stared at Beomgyu, his best friend. He watched as the older placed their orders and shared a quick chat with the barista. Taehyun still found it hard to understand how Beomgyu always knew what sort of mood he was in whenever he placed their coffee orders.
Taehyun knew he was not going to find love in anyone the way everyone did because he was aromantic. Hell, being aromantic was the reason why he and Beomgyu had become friends, Beomgyu being the same as well. The two of them had bonded over being aromantic and helped each other through the process of accepting themselves and dealing with the world who didn’t really like people like them.
Taehyun had known he was aromantic for a long time, even if he didn’t know that a specific term existed for it. It had been when he was younger, his parents explaining what marriage and love meant to his curious self. His parents' explanation made him think about how he wasn’t really interested in the ‘love’ they talked about with so much fondness. Taehyun didn’t want love and anything like that. Taehyun didn’t mention that to his parents and went on with his life until he reached high school and found out the official term for what he felt and soon after found Beomgyu.
After meeting Beomgyu he’d learned a lot more about being aromantic and what it entailed for different people. To him being aromantic meant never being in a relationship and just living alone and having friends. But going deeper into the LGBTQ world online, reading forums and posts gave him the chance to discover a lot more.
He had been surprised when he found out that many aromantic people got into queerplatonic relationships, i.e. purely platonic relationships with someone they’re close to without any romantic aspect. Many people in such relationships even got married- Taehyun paused in his thoughts as the gears in his head turned.
And this was when Taehyun had an epiphany. An epiphany that for some reason didn’t shock Taehyun. In fact, it felt like he’d known this deep down but he just hadn’t accepted it consciously yet. He-
“What are you thinking about, Tae? You look constipated.”
Taehyun rolled his eyes before shaking his head, “I just figured out something. I had an epiphany.”
Beomgyu raised his eyebrows in slight amusement, “Uh-huh, what sort of epiphany?”
“That I love you and want to marry you but you know like not romantically. You’re not my type, yet you’re my type and I’d love to marry you as best friends because dude I’d totally spend the rest of my life with you.”
Beomgyu blinked for a few seconds before he finally spoke, “Is this a fucking proposal?”
Taehyun opened his mouth to reply but got cut off by Beomgyu as he proceed to huff, “Because if it is, it’s awful! How the fuck do you think you can ask me to marry you platonically without a goddamn ring or anything? I deserve better!”
Taehyun winced and pressed his lips into a line as Beomgyu kept rambling about how bad his proposal was (Taehyun wasn’t sure if he should tell Beomgyu that what he said to him wasn’t a proposal rather a simple conversation) and a thousand ways to propose which would be better than the shitty thing he did.
Taehyun wondered what he should do to calm Beomgyu down because after hearing his ramble about the bad proposal, more like accidental proposal, he realized that he would actually love to get married and wanted to propose to Beomgyu. But the main question was how should he propose? Taehyun’s eyes widened as an idea struck his head and he instantly got up from his seat.
“Shush, give me a minute, Beom. I’ll be back soon!”
Taehyun didn’t bother to wait for a reply and rushed over to the barista and placed an order for two donuts, sending her a smile once she gave him the donuts and made his way back to Beomgyu.
“Donuts? Really? You wanna-”
Taehyun groaned as he set the donuts down and took his seat opposite Beomgyu, “Just shut up for a minute and let me do my thing for fuck’s sake!”
Beomgyu mocked Taehyun by showing his tongue but remained silent as Taehyun placed the two plates in between them and took a deep breath before turning his attention on to Beomgyu.
“Beomie, I love you so much. I don’t love anyone as much as you- okay well no that’s a lie because Jungkook is going to be on top of my ‘the people i love the most’ list. Have you seen that dude sing and god, his visuals-”
“Tae, you were proposing to me. Also, Jeon Jungkook, a world-famous singer, doesn’t know that an idiot like you exists so stop focusing on him and continue your proposal. You can fangirl later.”
Taehyun huffed, “Whatever, anyways back to what I was saying. I love you a lot. You’re the butter to my bread. The Sam to my Dean-”
“Bitch, I’m obviously Dean. It’s supposed to be the Dean to your Sam-”
“Beomie, I’m not going to get into a discussion about why you should be Sam Winchester and why I should be Dean Winchester rather than the opposite right now. I’m supposed to be proposing!”
Beomgyu shook his head, “You are not getting out of this. We’ll continue this discussion later.”
“So you get my point. I love you more than anyone else and I wouldn’t mind spending the rest of my life with you. So will you marry me, Beomie?” finished Taehyun, pushing the donuts towards Beomgyu with a hopeful smile. “I don’t think I’m ever going to find someone that I’d like to marry. You’re my best bet.”
“I still can’t believe you called me Sam and bought me donuts-”
“Beomie.”
“-but I agree with you. You love me a lot, I’m loveable after all. And I love you too. So yes, the Sam to my Dean-”
“Dean to your Sam.”
“-I will marry your sorry ass because I wouldn’t mind sharing the rest of my life with you. However, I have a condition.”
Taehyun raised his eyebrows in question as Beomgyu continued, “I will only marry you if you start cleaning up after you. I don’t have the willpower to put up with your mess anymore!”
Taehyun grinned, “Your happiness is my happiness because I love you to the fucking moon and back, times infinity. I promise to clean up!”
Beomgyu narrowed his eyes at Taehyun as he hummed, “Good. And if you break this promise, I will dump your ass and get a divorce. Is that clear?”
Taehyun nodded eagerly as Beomgyu continued, pointing at the donuts, “Also am I allowed to eat this ring? Uh, no, donut? Can I eat this ring donut thingie?”
“Ugh, ofcourse you can eat it, dummy.” groaned Taehyun. “I brought donuts to bribe you into marrying me. Stupid. Eat these then we can go buy you an actual ring. Obviously not those expensive wedding rings because we’re both broke. You’ll have to make do with cheap promise rings for now. I’ll buy you the good stuff when I’m not broke.”
Beomgyu rolled his eyes as he picked up the donut and took a large bite, “Yeah, yeah, whatever. Also it’s dummy hyung to you.”
Taehyun merely chuckled as he grabbed the second donut, ignoring the protests Beomgyu threw at him. He was going to marry his best friend. He was going to marry Choi Beomgyu. His dummy hyung. Nothing could make Taehyun happier.
