Not everything goes the way we want them to go. At some point, something, somehow will go wrong, like if you suddenly fall on your feet, run out of ink during a test, or maybe you forgot a word during a speech. Whatever it is, life just doesn’t go how we want things to.
Marinette knows this fact. In fact, she knows this intimately, so much so, you’d think she was ready for every single disaster that just might happen with how prepared she is. But then again, life doesn’t like people getting away from their rules.
Not even, our favourite heroine.
Today was a very important day for Marinette. It was her first ever fashion show, well technically not her first one, but the first one she has ever held on her own and by her own brand. Big deal, right? It will be, if she can get through the day unscathed, but with her clumsiness and her ability to trip over thin air that would be a heck of a challenge, wouldn’t it? Well, I guess we’ll see, won’t we?
The scorching sun was high above the people’s heads. Heat penetrating any inch of the body unprotected by shade. Add to that the unpleasant stiflingly hot air that reminds Parisians of the beach makes them feel stuffy in business wear. Especially those that are still walking around on the streets of the vast city.
Among the people moving like soldiers off to war, is a petite girl that seems lost. Like a headless chicken, running around trying to find a path to stick to get where they need to go. Though in this case, that was a person and they go by the name Marinette Dupain-Cheng, who is supposed to be at her job already.
“Mon Dieuuu, how did I even get here?” she frantically whispered to herself, looking around she muttered in a low voice, “I even forgot my phone. Stupid, stupid Marinette,”
Not wanting to just keep standing there, she decided to close her eyes and pick a random direction. Hoping that Ladybug’s luck would be with her today, she opened her eyes and walked to the arrow she pointed.
As she walked, she kept looking at the surrounding streets trying to place where she is in the city. But alas, no matter how hard she tried she just couldn’t seem to place the street names.
"...why is today like this of all days?" she sighed, "First thing in the morning my alarm didn't go off, then I hit my head from hitting the ceiling." Without realizing it, she rubbed the part of her head that got the blow earlier. "Then, the coffee, my sweet, sweet nectar, runs out,"
While being busy talking to herself, Marinette failed to notice the various people on the streets shouting at her. She only realized this fact when she heard a noise near her, she looked up and there, in front of her was a motorbike moving towards her.
Marinette's eyes immediately opened the size of saucers. She knew that she had to move, but for some reason she couldn't lift his legs. She was shaking, her whole body was shaking, but she couldn't move at all. It was as if her body was controlled by someone else. With no other alternative, Marinette could only close her eyes tightly and wait for the impending collision.
However, the collision never occurred. Instead, a touch from the person behind her was what broke her out of her stupor. It all happened very quickly.
When she opened her eyes, she was faced with a stranger, she was in their arms. And that’s not all the stranger holding her was close, so close that Marinette could see that the man before her had deep green eyes.
'Like, emerald gems,' thought Marinette.
With shaky breaths and adrenaline racing through her blood, Marinette said the only thing on her mind.
"Hi," Slowly a small smile bloomed on the man's face.
"Hello, to you too."
Maybe life doesn’t go the way we want it to, but maybe that's the way it should be. Who knows? Life may have something, or someone, that might just make your life even more beautiful.
