Chapter Text
You wake up with a yawn and stretch, the sunlight filtering into your room. Walking across your room you hum softly as you change into your silk stola. You exit your room and enter the main courtyard of your family's estate, the light blue fabric swishing around your ankles. Spotting your mother, you smile and sit by her near the dais.
“Good morning mother!”
Your mother smiles and brings you into her embrace. “Good morning y/n. How did you sleep?”
You smile and sigh, ”I would have slept far better if there weren’t so many movers about the estate.”
Mother laughs. “Indeed, their work is necessary if we want to be able to set out for the new summer estate in Pompeii however.”
She gestures around the courtyard, servants bustle back and forth carrying large baskets and amphoras. Father is near the estate’s entryway speaking with the moving manager and gesturing to a scroll of parchment. Your father, mother and yourself have been planning to move to the luxury city of Pompeii for the summer where your elder brother works as a merchant. You’ve heard stories of the beauty and wealth of this resort town, but have never been there yourself.
“I can hardly wait until we get there! I can’t wait to explore and try so many new things!” You close your eyes with a smile of content.
“Well you’re in luck my daughter.” You open your eyes to see your father walking over to where you and your mother sit. “I just received word from your brother Marcus that the summer estate is ready to move in, and the head servant just informed me that the last items have been packed.”
“Oh that’s wonderful news!” Mother softly clapped her hands together. “Are you ready to go and see Pompeii y/n?”
“Yes!” You shout with delight. Mother and Father laugh as you all exit the courtyard and board the carriage waiting out front of the estate.
As the oxen start forward and the carriage moves towards its destination, you smile and laugh with your family, unaware that your life will soon be changed forever. For Pompeii holds many mysteries that you will uncover in all due time, and the power and pleasure and strangeness that comes with it. Nothing will be the same ever again.
