Being stuck in Julie’s mom’s studio due to a thunderstorm wasn’t how anyone expected their day to go. Before the storm, it had been a nice Saturday afternoon so they had all planned to hit the beach. The plans were effectively ruined. Julie and Luke decided to use this time to look over songs at the piano while Reggie hid up in the loft trying to block out the sound of the thunder outside. Willie and Alex ended up on the couch trying to find something to do.
“Truth or Dare?” Willie asked eventually.
“You know this is just going to be Truth or Truth, right?” Alex said. “I don’t like dares.”
“I’m not going to ask you to do anything dangerous.”
“Okay, but if it’s not scary, it’s not really a dare.”
“Then I’ll do the dares,” Willie said.
“I’m also bad at coming up with dares.”
“Just go with it.”
“Okay, truth,” Alex said.
“Hmm,” Willie said thoughtfully. “What’s the craziest thing you’ve done in front of a mirror?”
“That’s kind of a weird question,” Alex said. “Um, Reggie and I did the Born To Hand-jive dance scene from Grease and almost broke a towel rack.”
Willie laughed. “You and Reggie?”
“Reggie is really into musicals.”
Willie looked up at Reggie in the loft. “You know, now that you mention it, I can kind of see it.”
“Truth or dare?” Alex asked.
“Dare.”
“Um,” Alex said, looking around the studio. “Steal Luke’s beanie.”
Willie looked over at Luke, who was completely distracted by Julie. “I don’t think he’ll notice. He’s lost in Julie’s eyes.” Willie stood up from the couch and surreptitiously made his way behind the piano. He reached down, pulled off Luke’s beanie, and scurried back to the couch. Then he tossed the beanie to Alex. They looked over at Luke, whose hair was now sticking out at odd angles. They laughed quietly amongst themselves.
“Let’s make things more interesting.”
“Oh no,” Alex said.
“How did you lose your virginity?” Willie asked. Alex made a strange face and laughed awkwardly.
“I am not telling you how I lost my virginity, nope.”
“Is it super embarrassing?” asked Willie in an amused tone.
Alex’s voice went an octave higher. “No…it’s just um, I’m not telling you.”
“It’s Truth or Dare, you have to tell me.”
“Nope.”
“If you won’t tell me, I’ll ask Luke.”
“Wait, don’t-”
“Luke, who’d Alex lose his virginity to?”
Luke looked up from Julie and the piano. Nonchalantly, he said, “Me, why?”
Julie and Willie had a shared moment of shock.
“What?!” they exclaimed together.
“You’re serious?” asked Julie.
“Yeah,” said Luke. “We dated, we broke up, and now we’re basically family.”
“Just like that?” asked Willie.
“Just like that,” Luke confirmed. “It’s not weird.”
“It’s a little weird,” interjected Alex.
“Just because you didn’t want to tell Willie.”
“Okay, fair.”
“Do you date all your bandmates?” Julie jokingly asked Luke.
“Just the hot ones.”
Julie rolled her eyes.
