Work Text:
Once upon a time Marinette would have welcomed the opportunity to spend more time with Adrien at one of his photoshoots. She couldn’t believe she’d hatched so many plans about how to take advantage of all kinds of mishaps that could bring her closer to him. It was funny and cringe-worthy when she thought about it now.
She no longer had to concoct such elaborate things. Adrien was her boyfriend so she didn’t have to think of ways to get closer to him. Now the challenge was the opposite - to be able to act normal around him and not arouse any suspicions. So subterfuge was still necessary but for a whole other reason.
And still, when his shirt got stained, it was her who offered to help with that.
“I can take it out,” she said quickly, brandishing a pack of stain remover tissues. Part of her determination to do this was because she was in charge of wardrobe, at least temporarily, and therefore for wardrobe malfunctions. The other part was that she didn’t really want anyone else that close to him since she was there already. It wasn’t jealousy or possessiveness, she tried to convince herself, but the truth was that it had tiny bits of both.
Then again, she knew that if Adrien had a say in this, he’d choose her as well. Yes, he was professional about this and was used to working with different people, but with her there, it was obvious he counted on her and she didn’t want to disappoint him.
“Thank you,” he said softly as she started working on the light grey fabric of his sleeve.
No one was supposed to know that they were together so they had to keep their emotions under control. A furtive glance or a not so casual touch could fly under the radar. But they couldn’t be too careful.
She tried to focus on the task at hand and ignore the familiar aroma of his cologne that filled her with longing or the heat of his body that she could feel even through two layers of clothes.
She wanted to reach out and pull him closer. To brush aside an errant lock of hair. To wipe a smear of foundation on his ear. To cup his cheek and trace his lip with a thumb. To kiss him and lose herself in him.
She couldn’t do any of that. But she could work on his shirt.
“Here,” she said eventually, triumphantly showing him the stainless shirt sleeve.
“Your hands are magical, Marinette,” he exclaimed, not even trying to hide the pride in his voice.
He took her hand in his and lifted it to his lips. It was the most innocent gesture and something he’d done with no regard for the public eye again and again, yet she felt her cheeks warm up.
He was her boyfriend and she’d kissed him countless times. Kisses that made her knees buckle and clouded her mind in the most delicious way.
But he could still make her swoon with just a touch of his lips on the suddenly too sensitive skin of her hand. His eyes sparked as they met hers, a promise in them as his lips lingered just a moment too long.
She couldn’t wait for the day when they wouldn’t have to hide. When she would be able to kiss him the way she wanted to without caring about who was watching. Hopefully, that day would be soon.
Until then, at least he was close and she knew she’d have him all to herself later. It could be worse.
