The Idea Of her

Summary:

Before she knew it, Kara was drifting off to sleep, one fist under her head and the other clenching a stale french fry. Her mother’s words drifted off into near nothingness as her brain started to go blank.
Suddenly, she wasn't at McDonald's anymore.
She woke up in a big bed, covered in a white, soft comforter. There was a mass next to her, snuggled into her side. Rays of sunlight were streaming into the room from a large window on the wall by the bed, bathing the room in a golden glow.
The dark hair peeking out of the top of the covers began to stir. A bright green eye poked itself out of the covers and peeked at Kara.
"Morning, darling" the mass said softly, snuggling further into Kara's chest.
Kara didn't answer. She was too busy being distracted by those eyes.
OR
Kara dreams about her soulmate from a very young age, so imagine her surprise when they meet at college.

Chapter Text

The first vision was when she was 6.

Well. Kara wouldn’t call it a vision, exactly, more like a vivid dream, but it definitely happened. She was sitting at the corner booth in a McDonald’s, late at night. Her chicken nuggets were long gone, and her mother was on the phone with someone. Kara was too tired to pay much attention.

The figure sat up slowly, stretching as it went.

The figure, as it turned out, was the most beautiful woman Kara had ever seen.

She had slightly wavy dark hair that hung around her face like a frame. The sunlight caught her green eyes just right, and exposed the layers of color in them. Her fair skin was soft and warm, Kara knew that much, and she missed the heat from the woman almost immediately after she moved out of the bed to open the curtains.

"No, too early," Kara grunted, turning her face into the feather-like pillow under her.

The woman chuckled, a sound like the song her mom plays on repeat, with a strong melody and sweet harmony and flutes and strings, flowing swiftly through their car like the woman's laugh flowed through Kara's veins.

"C'mon honey, it's graduation day!" the woman exclaimed joyfully, pulling the soft comforter off of Kara's very warm body.

“No!” she shrieked, looking down. She then realized that she was much older. Her legs were longer, and much more tan. She was in a sports bra and athletic shorts. She had abs and toned arms and legs.

“Please,” Kara pouted. “Can I please have the covers back?”

The woman hesitated for a few beats before her eyes lit up.

“Sure,” the woman said. “Come and kiss me for it.”

Kara froze. That was possible?? She had only learned about men and women being in relationships, never two women. Wait, does that mean two men can be together, too? Her brain hurt.

“Well?” the woman asked, soldering the balled up comforter behind her back and puckering her lips playfully.

Kara’s body moved on its own, almost. She crawled to the edge of the mattress and drew up on her knees so that the woman was only slightly taller than her. She tilted her head up just slightly and leaned forwards until their noses were brushing. Kara loved this woman’s warmth. She wrapped her arms around her torso.

The woman backed up just slightly, so Kara moved with her. They danced like this until Kara was practically falling out of the bed.

“You tricked me!” Kara whined, pouting ever-so-slightly and folding her arms across her new chest.

“Perhaps,” the woman smirked. Kara leaned in again, fast and sharp like a snake ready to attack. The woman dodged her lips, but barely, and took off running down the small hallway separating the bedroom and the main part of the house.

“Kara, honey, wake up,” Kara heard, but it sounded far away. Kara just wanted to run after this woman, probably forever.

“Kara,” she heard again. Her shoulder shook a little, but nothing she couldn’t handle. She kept running, through their living room, running a circle around the white couch.
“Kara!” She jolted awake, still in the crummy McDonald’s, still with the stale french fry in her hand.

“Come on honey, it’s time to get you to bed,” Kara’s mom told her, gathering her things and grabbing the fry out of Kara’s fist. Kara sat up, expecting to go a lot further off the table than she actually did. Her skin was still really pale, and her stomach jutted out a little bit. She got off the bench and put her hand in her mother’s, suddenly feeling much more mature.

The workers stuck closing glared at them on their way out.
