Adrien was happy that he’d come up with the idea to bring Marinette to the aquarium. She looked like a little child as she oohed and aahed at the creatures swimming on the other side of the glass. He loved seeing her like this, when she could forget her concerns and the weight of her responsibilities even for a little while.
“The jellyfish are so cute,” she gushed, pointing to a brightly coloured one.
“And terrifying,” he shuddered, watching their long, almost transparent tentacles. He didn’t want that anywhere near him.
“Eels are terrifying, yes,” she made a face, looking at one in another section. He was behind her, his arms around her.
“You mean ewws?” He chuckled.
She turned around and bopped his nose.
“Silly kitty.”
"Then again, electric eels can really brighten your day," he winked at her and her groan wasn't far behind.
“It’s good that there is glass separating us,” she said, mouth gaping when they reached the shark tunnel. They were truly scary, with endless lines of sharp teeth and blood-thirsty faces.
“You know what?” Adrien said, his voice dropping, as he looked for a distraction from the horror around him. “We can actually go to see the real deal.”
“Sharks?” She cried out, a terrified look on her face.
“No, every sea creature in general,” he laughed. “We can see them in their natural habitat. Not behind glass.”
“How?”
“Water power-ups, remember,” he whispered in her ear. “We can go swim with the dolphins.” And with super suits on, they wouldn’t have to worry about jellyfish stings or anything.
“Now? We can’t just leave Paris to go and have fun,” she reminded him with a sigh. He knew that. They were superheroes first and foremost, their duties coming first. It was a miracle that they had found free time for this trip to the local aquarium. A trip to the seaside or abroad was absolutely out of the question even if they had means to get back. This could happen only in exceptional cases, while a vacation wasn’t one.
“Oh well. One day. I’ll take you on a scuba diving vacation,” he promised. “Just you and me, where no other human has been. Swimming in the sea and having our own island to ourselves.”
It sounded like the perfect plan.
“You’re optimistic that we’ll defeat Hawk Moth one day and be free to go wherever we want,” Marinette said, longing in her voice.
“We will, m’lady, I promise. Unless you don’t want to be on a desert island with me,” he teased her.
“You know I do, kitty. I wouldn’t mind being stranded anywhere with you,” she smiled. “Now kiss me and let's go watch some more innocent fish.”
He kissed her puckered lips and took her hand, leading the way to the corals, which were pretty harmless, and hopefully a brighter future.
