“So… let me get this straight. You have these feelings towards Midoriya and it’s been going on for a while and you have no idea what it means or what to do about it, so you’re asking me for help?” Momo asked in concern.
“Yes… Yaoyorozu. That’s exactly what I’m asking. Is that so hard to understand..?” Todoroki asked in return.
“Well… this is just coming out of nowhere and you’ve never mentioned anything about Midoriya in this context before! I know he helped you a lot with understanding your quirk and your relationship with your family but I had no idea there was more to this situation!” Momo responded. “Listen… why don’t you and I meet up after class is over and and we can talk more about this then…” She continued as Midoriya entered the classroom and walked right up to her and Todoroki.
“Good morning Yaoyorozu and Todoroki! How are you both doing today? I know we have a big test coming up in English and I’ve been studying like crazy for it and it’s got me pretty stressed out but I’m gonna do my best and I know you both will too!” Midoriya said enthusiastically with a bright smile. Momo then slightly nudged Todoroki with her elbow and gestured towards Midoriya.
“Oh uhm… yes. Good morning Midoriya. I’m doing quite well today so far and hope the same for you as well.” Todoroki stated in his typical cold manner. Momo then rolled her eyes and turned towards Midoriya.
“Yes! We’ve all been studying a lot for that upcoming test but I’m sure we could always study even harder! It might be a good idea to study with other classmates as well to really get some practice in!” She stated as she glanced over at Todoroki, who had a very blank look on his face.
“Yeah! Studying with a partner is always a good idea! It really helps put the difficulty and overall material into perspective with a second brain!” Midoriya responded.
“Exactly my point! You know what would be a great idea! Todoroki has actually been struggling with the material for English and I think if you were to become his study partner it would really benefit him and also you too of course!” Momo then smiled and widened her eyes as she looked over at Todoroki.
“Oh of course! Todoroki, I had no idea you were having trouble with studying! I would be so happy to help you out! I’m free later tonight if you wanted to come to my dorm and study together!” Midoriya said with an excited look on his face. “Would that be okay? If you wanted to come around 6:00 PM then that would be perfect!”
“Oh… uhm…” Todoroki started to respond slowly as Momo spotted his struggle and took the conversation over. “Yes! He would love to! We actually have plans after class so 6:00 would be a perfect time for him! Thank you so much for helping him Midoriya!”
“Oh it’s not a problem at all!” Midoriya responded with a slight laugh. “I’m always here to help out! I should really get ready for class though, so I’ll talk to you later Yaoyorozu and see you tonight Todoroki!” He then walked over to his seat on the other side of the room.
“Yaoyorozu… why did you say that? English is one of my best subjects and I don’t need any extra help with it.” Todoroki stated bluntly.
“You really are dense sometimes, you know that?”
Momo responded. “I said that so you can have some one-on-one time with Midoriya! And you know, get to know him more! I knew you weren’t going to do it yourself so I thought I would help you out!”
“Oh… I appreciate the help but I’m not really prepared for a situation like this…” Todoroki explained. “It’s just too soon for me.”
“Well… I’m sorry but ready or not, you’re going to study with him tonight. I’ll make sure of it!” Momo said enthusiastically.
“You really are a pain sometimes Yaoyorozu… a thorn in my side that I just can’t seem to get rid of…” Todoroki stated as he turned back around in his seat with a slight smile.
“Just doing my job as your best friend!” Momo responded as she happily took out her notebook from her bag to get ready for class to start.
After the school day had ended, everyone separated into their friend groups as they started to head back to their dorms. Midoriya, Iida, and Uraraka joined up as they began their walk. “Man… that was a lot to deal with for today but I’m just glad that school is over for the day!” Uraraka exclaimed as the trio exited their classroom.
“Yes! We had to put in a lot of hard work today and now it’s time to do the same again tomorrow!” Iida stated while moving his hands up and down. “Do either of you have plans for tonight?”
Midoriya then smiled slightly and looked over at the others standing next to him. “Well… I actually do have plans tonight to study for that big English test with… Todoroki.”
“WHAT?” Uraraka shouted. The other students leaving their classes looked over at the trio in concern. “Oh, everything is fine! Sorry for that everyone!” Uraraka blushed in embarrassment. “Let’s continue this when less people are around.”
After exiting the main building and walking towards the building their dorms are in, Uraraka continued their earlier conversation. “Why didn’t you tell us that you two had plans together? ALONE?”
“Midoriya, we’re your friends for a reason. We need to know these things! It’s in our friendship agreement!” Iida exclaimed.
“We have a friendship agreement?” Midoriya questioned. “Well… either way, it just happened before class and I didn’t have time to tell you guys! Momo said that he needed help studying and asked if I would help so I agreed! Even though I thought Todoroki was good at English…?”
“No matter what, you’re gonna be alone with him and that means you have time to get closer? How long has it been that you’ve liked him for now? It’s been months and you’ve done nothing! Now is your opportunity!” Uraraka said with excitement in her voice. The three students were slowly coming closer to their dorm entrance.
“I know, I know… I just don’t know what to do about situations like this! I’ve never been in a relationship or even really had a crush before! I just… I really don’t wanna blow it!” Midoriya stated with worry on his face.
“Never fear Midoriya! No matter what situation occurs, we’ll be here for you. You can do this!” Iida responded with a smile as Uraraka nodded in agreement.
“Well… thanks you guys. I’m gonna try my best and I guess whatever happens, happens.” Midoriya said. “I really should head back to my dorm to get ready for tonight though! I definitely need to pick out something else to wear. I’ll let you both know how it goes tonight though! And thanks again for the encouragement!”
“Of course! You can do this Deku!” Uraraka jumped in excitement as Iida waved back at Midoriya who was starting to head upstairs to his dorm.
When Midoriya entered his dorm he instantly fell face first onto his bed. He sighed as he picked up his phone that fell next to him to check the time as it read “5:00 PM.”
“WHAT? How did so much time pass already? I have to get ready for Todoroki!” He then scurried to grab a clean pair of jeans and threw on a plain black hoodie that he had recently bought. He had no idea what would be appropriate to wear for a situation like the study session tonight, but he decided casual was the way to go.
Meanwhile, Todoroki had also arrived back at his dorm and had changed into a gray shirt with a light blue Jean jacket and black jeans. He gathered his notes and study guide to bring with him and sat down on his bed to relax before it was time to leave. He glanced over at his alarm clock and saw that he still had a full hour before they were supposed to meet. He always was the type of person to be ready early for important events.
When the time came for Todoroki to head over to Midoriya’s dorm, he gathered his materials and started his walk to start their study session together. He realized his hands were slightly shaky the closer he got to Midoriya’s room. He wondered if he should even show up. If this was all a mistake. Before he knew it he had arrived in front of Midoriya’s room. He stood there staring blankly for a minute, thinking through the possibilities of what could happen throughout the rest of the night. As he was thinking up every scenario, the one he never expected to happen had suddenly became a reality. Midoriya had opened the door before Todoroki had even knocked and greeted him. “Oh hi Todoroki! You’re early! I was just opening up my door so you would know to just come in but it seems you’re already here so that’s perfect!” He smiled back at a frozen Todoroki. “Well… you might as well come in now!”
“Uhm… yes, thank you Midoriya. I apologize for showing up too early.” Todoroki stated as he slowly walked into Midoriya’s dorm.
“Oh no! You’re completely fine! Seriously! You can really set your stuff anywhere and you can sit on the chair at my desk! I have another one I can pull up next to you for myself!” Midoriya explained as he gently shut the door. “Make yourself at home!”
“Thank you, I appreciate it.” Todoroki responded as he sat down and laid his notes out on the desk in front of him. Midoriya then pulled a chair out from his closet and sat down next to Todoroki.
“I just keep an extra in case I have anyone over! Uraraka and Iida like to visit me a lot of the time!” Midoriya stated with a nervous laugh. “But… anyways! We should get started! Don’t wanna waste time when we could be studying!” He then pulled out his notes and laid them out next to what Todoroki had brought so that they could compare and ask each other any questions if needed.
Around 30 minutes later, the two boys had nearly reached the end of their notes for English. “Well Todoroki…” Midoriya started. “You don’t seem to really be struggling very much with the material! Which is good, don’t get me wrong! I’m just confused as to why Yaoyorozu asked me to help you when you seem to be perfectly fine.”
Todoroki had suddenly froze up as a slight blush appeared on his cheeks. “Uhm… well Midoriya… you see..” Todoroki started as he was suddenly cut off.
“Don’t worry about it! I’m not… upset about spending time with you! I’m happy to have you here! I mean… uhm??” Todoroki looked shocked at Midoriya’s sudden response to him. “WAIT! No! I don’t mean in that way!… well… uhm… I don’t really know what I’m trying to say here. I’m sorry…”
Todoroki had then turned away to avoid eye contact as he responded. “Midoriya… you don’t need to apologize for anything… I never said I didn’t feel the same way… you’re right about me not needing help with English. It’s one of my best subjects actually. I don’t know… this was all Yaoyorozu’s idea anyways… I should probably just go.” Todoroki then began to gather his belongings and stand up from his chair.
“NO! Todoroki!” Midoriya shouted as he reached over and grabbed Todoroki’s arm. “Wait… I’m sorry I didn’t mean to grab you… I wasn’t thinking straight…” he moved his arm back as he also stood up and looked over at Todoroki who he noticed was blushing.
“Midoriya… it’s okay. Stop apologizing all the time, you don’t need to. You never ask what I think about anything. You just assume the worst, but… what if that’s not true? What if the best case scenario is actually the most possible one?” Todoroki asked as he stared back into Midoriya’s glistening eyes as he noticed a slight blush on his face as well
“Todoroki… what do you mean by that? What are you talking about?…” Midoriya questioned as he was unsure of what to do next. “If it’s what I’m thinking then… we just need to be honest with each other. Do you… like me Todoroki?”
Todoroki then stood frozen in shock as he stuttered, unable to form a real sentence. “It’s okay if you do… you know? I wouldn’t be mad at you if you told me you did…” Midoriya continued. “I just need to hear you say it so I know that I’m not losing my mind here about what’s going on.”
“I…” Todoroki began. “I’m… I’m sorry Midoriya. I think I should go. I’ve been very tired recently and should get some extra sleep tonight.” Todoroki then slowly backed away from Midoriya as he headed towards the door. “I’ll… uhm… see you later! Have a good rest of your night.” Todoroki then picked up his pace as he headed for the exit and walked out, leaving the door open with a confused and speechless Midoriya standing alone in the middle of his dorm.
