Work Text:

Blackberry sighed, looking at the golden jewelry Chili had left her. There was no note, no quick chat, no notice beforehand that she'd be leaving.
At first, Blackberry was okay with the sudden trips away. Chili was having fun, and she always returned home, so what was the point of berating her? Besides, she always left sweet little gifts like the shiny necklaces and rings she was holding right now.
But it started to hurt her feelings when Chili left more and more often, therefore spending less and less time with her. And when Chili noticed this, she didn't comfort Blackberry. She didn't stay home more often. No, instead the gifts became larger and larger, in both value and size.
Like that was supposed to fix the issue. Blackberry collapsed on an armchair, still holding a particularly bulky necklace, with many different jewels decorating it. She thought about the times she and Chili would sit on this very seat and read books together.
And after that, they would cook dinner, occasionally making a mess due to Chili being more used to microwaving cup noodles then cooking complex meals. But Blackberry was never mad. She remembered she was once new to cooking, too. Instead, they cleaned up together, and started anew.
And then- no, she couldn't think anymore. Tears were filling her eyes, and threatening to spill out. She didn't bother to resist crying, curling up into a ball and sobbing as loudly as she could. Nobody would hear her.
Nobody was home.
So she cried and cried, finally giving in to her emotions.
She didn't register a knock on the door.
She didn't hear the sound of keys turning.
She didn't even notice the creak of the stairs as someone ran up them.
She only noticed when Chili finally reached her. Startled, she wiped her tears away and sat upright again, smiling at her.
"Oh, Chili, welcome back. Is there anything I can-"
Chili cut her short. "Don't. I know you were crying, Berry."
Blackberry didn't know what to say. How was she supposed to put all her emotions in words at a time like this?
Chili sat next to Blackberry. "C'mon, you can tell me anything, babe."
And once she said that, Blackberry burst into tears once again. "I'm so sorry, I- I just miss you w-when you go and leave me a-and-"
Chili didn't need to hear any more to understand what she meant. She pulled her girlfriend in a tight hug and raked her fingers through her hair.
"Oh, Berry, I'm so sorry. I thought the gifts would... help, in a sense, I guess. But I should've realized that what you want is... me."
Blackberry smiled. She knew Chili understood. And that was what she needed. Well, that, and something else.
"Promise you'll stay home more often?"
"Sure, sure. I already have the most valuable treasure in my life. I don't need to- oh god, that was cheesy, wasn't it?"
The only response from Blackberry was laughter. "Okay, yeah, it kinda was. You want dinner?"
"Yeah, I do. Pasta?"
"Of course, but... cuddles first?"
"Fine, fine." Chili held Blackberry in her arms, so relaxed she forgot about the pasta and fell asleep.
