Work Text:
It wasn’t uncommon for Kagami to find himself at the airport. It was more often then not, that the basketball games were taking place in another city or even another country. It was nothing new and he felt calm and collected there. Today, however, was different. He was sitting, waiting for his plane, nervously twitching his leg. Usually, when nervous, he would call Kuroko. Just a simple phone call with the letter could ease Kagami`s mind with no trouble. Today, again. Was different. Kagami just couldn`t call Kuroko. His Kuroko, who`s currently in Japan, working. At first, they were both frightened by the idea of a long-distance relationship. But time has shown, it was not that big of a problem for both of them. Sure, they missed being able to touch, hug, hold, simply be together, in each other`s presence. But they visit each other. Well, Kuroko does. They were trying to make it work. And they were succeeding. With each phone call, message, photo – Taiga felt warmth, a wave of tranquility, love. They have seen each other last month; Kuroko took a week off from his work and visited. They were no other plans for at least another three months due to Kagami`s games schedule. And still, here he was. Sitting at the airport, waiting to go on board the plane to Japan.
Was it the most spontaneous thing he has ever done or had this moment been building up for the past two years? Kagami can’t answer for. Kuroko’s yesterday massage with a picture of him hugging Nigou was definitely his last straw. So now, texting Tetsuya a quick text, saying he’s going to practice, he gets on the plane.
9 hours later, and here he is. Standing in front of Kuroko’s door. He still has three hours before his boyfriend comes from work. Enough to prepare everything.
He hasn’t been here for almost year and a half, which didn’t help with the nerves. As soon as Kagami opened the door he expected Number Two to meet him. However, the dog was picking out of the room like a scared puppy. Kagami couldn’t help but smile.
- Nigou, I’m home. – He said, squatting down and slapping his knee. The dog immediately broke into a smile, barking out of happiness and nearly making Kagami fall. – Hey there, buddy. I missed you too.
Getting out of Number Two’s hugs, Kagami went straight to the shower. Nothing better than a warm shower after a long flight. Noticing his old T-shirts on the washing machine, something moved in Kagami, as if piercing his heart. Kuroko wears his clothes. Cute.
Kagami was worried of Kuroko not liking such a surprise. He will probably be tired after work; he always says that children suck all of his energy out by the end of the day. What if he will get angry? Maybe Kagami should have told him in advance? What if Kuroko has someone on the side? They don’t see each other often, so it is possible. In order to not break under the anxiety given by his own thoughts, after the shower Kagami went to the kitchen to cook them dinner.
Kuroko always complements his cooking. Kuroko always says how much he misses Kagami. Kuroko takes time to fly to America for a visit. Kagami truly believes that Kuroko loves him just as Kgami loves Kuroko. Why is he still nervous?
Kagami was pulled out of his thoughts by the fridge. There were drawings pinned with rainbow-colored magnets. They were terrible, obviously drawn by children, but Kagami still could figure out Kuroko in every single one of them. It’s hard to not notice his blue hair. A drawing of Kuroko holding hands with two children, they have flowers in their hair. Another one with Kuroko wearing an apron and holding a book. There was a drawing with what seemed like Kuroko and his whole kindergarten group. But one drawing pulled Kagami’s attention the most. There was Kuroko, holding hands with someone. That someone was taller than him, with red hair and an angry expression. Was that Kagami? Why would a child draw him? It seemed unlikely, but Kagami couldn’t figure out who that might be, besides him. He stared at it for a few more moments, not noticing how he started smiling and his previous haunting thoughts disappeared.
After the cooking began the time flew. Kagami prepared some curry and obviously a vanilla milkshake for desert. Nigou started running around the corridor near the main door, which indicated to Kagami that Kuroko is going to come home soon. Taiga wasn’t really a romantic, but he tried to set the table perfectly, with a few lighted candles and champagne. He wanted Kuroko to like this. He was tired of being apart.
Finally, he hear the door open.
- Number two! – was heard, Kagami stayed still in the kitchen, - Hm? You are calling me to the kitchen? Are you hungry?
Kagami could hear approaching barking and steps. A moment, a second, one breath in. Kuroko is right in front of him.
- Kagami-kun, - sounded quitter than Kuroko usually was.
- Yeah, - was all that Taiga could say, because tears started forming in his partner’s eyes and it felt like someone was tearing his soul apart. – I’m home.
They simultaneously went in for a hug, collapsing into each other’s arms.
Home. That was it, Kagami wanted to be home. He was so overwhelmed with feelings. Warmth, gratitude, happiness, tranquility, love. Kagami didn’t just want to see Kuroko. He wanted to stay by Kuroko’s side. Maybe they could start a new life together?
- Tetsuya, - Kagami started, cupping Kuroko’s face in his hands. – if I asked you to marry me right now, would you say yes?
- Kagami-kun, - Kuroko put his hands on Taiga’s, - I already told you. I’ll be forever your shadow.
