Chapter Text
Bakugou was no good at relationships and at no point in his life did he care about them. It was more important to save lives and become the most powerful hero alive! For the most part, that’s how he spent his time at work. Steadily rising in the ranks of heroes. Although he was so new he wasn’t making it particularly far, ranking in at 98th. It was better than Deku’s 99 but also worse than Todoroki 95. Bakugou just had to get stronger! No big deal. It became somewhat of an issue when his mind had started wandering in a direction he never meant it to; It wandered into the field of relationships.
The only reason it even became a topic in his mind was because recently, fucking Uraraka Ochako inserted herself in his life. Last year she had begun working out at his gym and needed him to show her around. Then eventually they became sparring partners when Kirishima had changed his usual schedule so she was just a fill in. About three months after that Uraraka’s home was destroyed in a gang war between villains and she moved into the same district as Bakugou. He found the kindness in his heart to even help her move. After that, it was a blur of hanging out in the same circles, their Pro Hero companies teaming up with each other and just integrating her more and more into his life. Bakugou had to wonder when the hell he started “falling” for her (or whatever the fuck Kirishima called it).
Uraraka was a kickass, badass, hot-ass hero in every way he could think of. He only realized he needed to take care of these stupid feelings when he found himself literally drooling over her when the news broadcasted her fighting off a villain. Now the problem became that he didn’t know how to even approach the situation. How does one ask out Uraraka Ochako? More importantly, how the hell does Bakugou Katsuki ask her out? Bakugou sank in on his couch contemplating the question. There was a loud slurp from the straw of his smoothie as he mentally hit a wall. If only there was some kind of guide to this stuff. Maybe there was? Bakugou made sure to search on the incognito tab on his phone just in case. “How to ask out a girl” was the dumbest thing he ever had to search for. All the advice was the same. Either by straight up asking, or asking them on a date, or buying them something. It seemed possible, he could do that. It would be easy!
The next day, Bakugou stood outside of Uraraka’s favorite café and was caught in the middle of realizing this shit was not fucking easy. He had a whole nightmare detailing his heartbreak in case she said no. Uravity usually spent her day-off mornings at this bakery cafe. Bakugou usually worked in the afternoon, though decided to skip his early morning routine to make time for this very important event. Both his feet felt like lead as he walked in. To his luck, Ochako wasn’t there yet. Good. At the counter, there was a glass case showcasing some pastries.
“Are you finding everything alright, sir?”
“Uh...yeah..” Katsuki stood up embarrassed to be even asking “Is there a girl that comes in here every Tuesday? Brown hair, big eyes? Cute smile and about this tall?” His hand motioned next to him to estimate her height.
The clerk thought for a second then perked up “You mean miss Uraraka? The hero?”
Bakugou shuffled to pull some cash out of his pocket. “Yeah, that’s her. Can you just ring in whatever she always gets and put it on me? Just, tell her it’s from Ground Zero.”
“Oh I knew you looked familiar! You’re a hero too aren’t you? That’s amazing to have two heroes in our store!” The girl happily accepted the cash and handed Bakugou some change “I’ll tell her for sure. You’re welcome back any time!”
Hearing someone actually recognize him for once made his ego swell enough to defeat the shyness. He walked out of the café with plenty of pride and ready to move on with the rest of his day. His favorite part of the day: fighting off villains.
The day wasn’t as long as he anticipated. He took care of mostly minor attacks; Anything from a robbery to kidnapping and things of similar nature. Afterward Katsuki found himself hanging out with Kirishima and Mina. The two had taken up dating sometime last year and lived together. Mina typically worked at night taking care of villains in the dark, while Kirishima was normally active during the day. For now, this short break they all had time to relax with some dinner. Well, mainly Bakugou cooking for them.
“Thanks for helping me out again, Bakubro!” Kirishima laughed sheepishly while cutting some veggies.
“You’d be even more useful if you ever bothered learning how to cook for yourself.” Bakugou rolled his eyes. Deep down he must not have minded coming over to cook, considering he’d been doing it for so long now. “At least you’re getting decent with that knife.”
Kirishima perked up a little bit “You think so?”
“Don’t screw it up just because you got a compliment, dumbass!”
Mina happily wandered over and latched herself onto Kirishima. Her hand was placed just over his as she helped him control the knife. “Don’t let it get to you, you’re doing great! Maybe just a little more practice.”
Kirishima blushed and smiled that stupid lovey smile he got whenever Pinky was around “Aha..you’re right. Thanks Mina.”
Bakugou tried not to be too observant, but he realized they were one of the few examples of a real world relationship he got to see so closely. It was strange that Kirishima was still so embarrassed around her. Ashido was very compassionate and Katsuki couldn’t really tell if she knew what she was doing to Ejiou. It was odd but it seemed very...nice.
Mina eventually let up off of Kirishima and reached in her pocket. “By the way….Can you explain something, Bakugou?”
“What is it, freak?” His face went from mildly agitated to in complete shock in seconds. Mina held *his* phone which had a message from Uraraka. The message read “Thank you for the sweets!”
Bakugou soon found his face flaming red. Not just because of the message, but now two of his friends knew about it. Bakugou lunged for his phone but Mina was always too fast when it came to dodging. Kirishima started laughing so hard he had to hold his stomach all while getting yelled at.
“Catch!” Mina threw the phone Kirishima who knew the password.
The Red head ducked under an attack from this explosive friend. “ It says ‘Thanks for the sweets! You really brightened up my morning!’ “
“Are you and Chako-chan *dating* Bakugou?!” Mina laughed, catching his phone which had been thrown again.
“Of course not you idiots!” Katsuki yelled. What kind of sick game was this?
“Then…” Kirishima snickered to himself “Does ‘sweets’ actually mean what it’s supposed to mean or is that some kind of innuendo?”
Bakugou finally managed to snatch his phone from them. His face was practically glowing from all this stupid teasing. To hell with these two! “It means fucking sweets got it?! I just did her a favor, don’t dig into it, assholes.”
The trio eventually settled onto the couch. Despite everything that happened, looking at the messages still made him feel that burning in his heart. He figured he might as well ask these idiots for some kind of guidance while he was trapped with them. The secret was already mostly in the open anyway. “I went into her favorite café this morning and bought all of her stuff for her. I left before she got there because my shift was starting. I just felt like being fucking kind.”
Kirishima slung his arm around Bakugou “From one bro to another, it sounds like you’re in L-O-V-E! I should have known, you two have been so close lately.”
Mina happily joined in “You know, I can’t spoil anything but maybe Uraraka has a thing for you too.”
That one line was enough to give Bakugou hope and sit up straight. If there was anyone who would know about Uraraka’s romantic interest, it would be Mina. Kirishima nodded in agreement, implying that he knew something about the matter as well “So, Bakubro, here’s what you gotta do.”
