Summary
Black cats belonged in the shadows, in the alleyways and filth, under bridges and in storms. That’s where they belonged, for that’s where they lived for so long. They were hunters of the night, panthers of the street; their black coats providing them camouflage when the sun went down, and their eyes piercing through dark hunting, scouring for anything to sustain themselves.
Tales had sprung over the years deeming them bad luck, ill omens, the devil’s medium, the witches’ confidant. Don’t let a black cat cross your path. If your cat birthed a black kitten your house was cursed until you killed the evil creature in ritual. If you found one out, stone it, torture it, kill it. It does not deserve to live. So the black cats armed with knowledge of their kin dissolved into the shadows, unseen, unloved, survival being their main goal, procreation becoming a luxury.
