Work Text:

Mirror mirror on the wall,

Sapnap smiled as he walked to Quackity’s country. It was beautiful, everything was in place and everything was constructed as if it was the most important thing on the server. In some places there were balls of green goop, and Sapnap’s curiosity skyrocketed.

The raven approached the theatre, the bright lights reflecting off the windows. Admiring the building, Sapnap rounded the corner, bringing his eyes down from the roof he saw him.

He was as beautiful as the day he saw him, although one eye was scarred and his face was hard, he was still one of the two most beautiful men Sapnap had ever seen in his life.

“Quackity?” He asked, stepping towards the other raven. The man’s head whipped toward his voice. His eyes were wide and starting to brim with tears.

“Sapnap?” He whispered. Sapnap’s lips turned down at the uncertainty in the other’s voice.

“Yeah!” Sapnap said brightly, “How’ve you been man?”

“I haven’t seen you in ages!” Quackity laughed, stepping over and wrapping his arms around the shorter. “How’ve you been?”

“Been great!” He said returning the hug, “Building Kinoko kingdom and hanging out.”

Quackity stepped away at that, “Oh yeah. I heard about that.” Sapnap noticed his voice sounded a lot less bright. “Anyway, you want a tour of my country?” He asked before turning on his heel, explaining with animated hand gestures what each and every building was.

Sapnap followed him, because why wouldn’t he? He showed him everything Las Nevada’s had to offer, to the marvelous buildings to the wonderful view.

It was only right to return the favor.

“Why don’t you come visit Kinoko kingdom?” Sapnap asked, a smile stretched wide across his face.

“I don’t know, it’s busy here and I-“

“What about right now?” The raven said desperately, “You aren’t doing anything right now.”

“Alright, I guess we can go right now.”

Sapnap smiled as he led Quackity in their little kingdom. He smiled as Quackity admired all the buildings Sapnap showed him. He smiled as Quackity answered tightly, and asked questions about the buildings. He smiled as they ran into Karl, and invited him to join their tour. He smiled as his two fiancé’s interacted again.

He didn’t smile when Karl tried to drag him away from Quackity. He didn’t smile as Karl called their other fiancé a murderer for something they all agreed to. He didn’t smile as Quackity spat at Karl.

He stood in the middle of the road as he watched his two fiancé’s walk in different directions. He begged for both of them to come back. He turned away from one to run to the other. He reached out, but his hand was swatted away.

“I knew this was a bad idea!” Quackity yelled, tears pouring out of his eyes. “It was never going to work out!”

“Maybe he was joking!”

“He’s not fucking joking Sapnap, I heard it in his tone of voice-“

“Maybe- maybe-”

“I heard the way he was saying it-“

“Maybe something is wrong with him-“

“He’s not fucking joking Sapnap.”

“Maybe something’s wrong with him!”

“Maybe something’s wrong with him?! Are you kidding me?”

“I don’t know! I don’t know! I don’t know!!”

“He blamed me for a plan we all worked on together Sapnap!”

“I DONT KNOW!!” The raven yelled, fresh tears starting to pool in his eyes. Quackity had turned away from him, starting to move back to his own country. He followed him numbly, his feet carrying him towards the other. He could barely hear the other over the roaring in his ears. “But it’s Karl…” he heard himself say.

“It’s Karl?” Quackity spat, “Did you see what he called me? A fucking murderer!”

Sapnap heard, he heard everything.

By the house he stood, as he watched his fiancé go.

“I never want to talk to him again.”

——————————————————————

The memory of Sapnap standing by the house with his arm outstretched was fresh on his mind as he stepped inside the prison.

Karl’s disgusted face as he spat on his shoe and called him a murderer replaced it as he walked back out.

He ran as fast as he could towards his nation. He had to save them. Had to get them away from the green-wearing man. Especially Slime, the only man he’d ever trust with his life.

The scarred raven ran into his country, the sound of alarms echoing in his brain. “Slime!” He yelled as he caught sight of the goop.

“What is it, Quackity from Las Nevadas?”

“I need you to round everyone up for me, it’s an emergency.”

“Quackity?” Purpled asked as he rounded the corner.

“Purpled!” The raven said, somewhat relieved, “I need you to round up everybody.”

“Why?”

“Las Nevadas is under emergency.” Slime said, a smile on his face.

“I have my own emergency you need to see first.”

“My emergency takes priority over yours.” Quackity said, narrowing his eyes at the teen.

“My emergency is right here, it’s a chest.” The purple-clad teen said, “I don’t think you placed it, I didn’t, and the contents tell me that nobody around here did it.”

Quackity sighed, “Alright, lead me to it.”

They went around the needle to the sand place in the back that had yet to be filled, and there, sitting right in the open, was a double wide chest.

“Check it around, check it around, make sure there are no contraptions around it.”

“Stay back Quackity of Las Nevadas I’ll make sure it’s safe!” Slime said, determination in his voice as he charged toward it.

“No, no, no, no! Listen, listen, listen. Check if it has traps!”

“No, no it’s okay, it’s okay! I can handle myself. Just get back.”

Quackity watched as Slime stood at the chest. Just to make sure the raven stepped around the chest to see if it was rigged in any way, then he turned towards the purple hoodie-wearing teen.

“Purpled, what is this about?”

“There’s noth-“ Slime cut himself off, turning around, “Oh.”

Quackity turned and before he could say anything the sand was being swept out from underneath him. He flailed for a minute before he came in contact with carpeted ground, hearing a small splat behind him. His mind was reeling as he looked up, making eye contact with the little shit that put them there. Purpled jumped down and immediately Quackity scrambled up and rushed towards the green man making sure he was okay.

“What the fuck are you doing?”

“It’s time you and I had a little talk.”

“What the fuck is this?”

Then Purpled took out his sword, starting to talk about the prison visit. Revealing to Quackity that he had squeezed the information out of Slime, infuriating the raven. He went on to say that he knew that he had the resurrection book, which Quackity met with confusion and denial. Purpled met it with shields and swords.

They fought, Purpled screaming about how Quackity had the book as Quackity yelled back that he didn’t. Their swords clashed on the red carpeted floor suspended above a pool of lava. Purpled caught fire due to Quackity’s enchanted sword, and they both pulled back as he put himself out.

“Even if I did have the book, you are the last person I would give it to.” Quackity whispered, breathing heavily.

“Fine,” Purpled said, his armor scratched and dented, a little piece of his hoodie on fire, “have it your way.”

“Purpled NO!”

“Quackity!”

Time seemed to slow as he ran towards the man made of goo. His hand was outstretched as the man fell, his armor slowing him down. He didn’t look at Purpled as he jumped off the side after Slime. Moments later he felt his feet land in the pool of lava, the only thing protecting him was his boots enchanted with resistance. Slime smiled at him, tilting his head sideways and closing his eyes.

“Get on the sand!” Quackity yelled, begging the slime man to get to safety. He threw pile after pile into the lava, desperately trying to keep a patch big enough for him. Pile after pile was swallowed by the lava and Slime put a hand over one of his trembling ones.

“Thank you for showing me what it’s like to be human.” Slime smiled, pushing himself back into the lava. Quackity screamed.

Days later found the raven in the tunnel he found the Slime in all those months ago. His clothes were torn, and his hair was all over the place. His shirt was untucked and his overalls had fallen off one shoulder. There was a permanent stain of tears on the side of the eye that could still cry, and in his hand was a book with warped pages.

“Hey,” he said, smiling slightly, “I’m back.”

The man of goop didn’t move.

“Uh, I’m still doing research about slimes and everything. I haven’t found out much! But uh, I’m trying to figure out if there’s anything we can do. Cause it’s been weeks and you can’t walk, you don’t talk, I don’t, even know if you remember me.” He said, reaching out towards the slime before pulling his hand away quickly, his heart hurting for something that was lost in time. “Uh, anyways, I’ve brought a couple more chapters of the book though! I’m writing down everything we did, and everything I’ve taught you.” why does it hurt so bad? he thought, “So that one day you might be able to read them and remember everything.”

“You know, whenever I write these books it feels like I’m writing a story, and it feels weird referring to you as ‘Slime.’ You’re more than slime, you’re human! So it’s going to sound silly but I came up with a name for you.” He took a deep breath, “I came up with Charlie!” Quackity said, smiling. He went on about his day to the goop in front of him, telling him all he’s been up to. It wasn’t much, but at least he was doing something.

“I hope I can hear you talk again one day, and hear you tell some of your silly jokes.” Quackity breathed, his chest constricting around his words, “I really-“ he gulped, “i really miss that.” He said, placing the books in the chest, finding one more than usual. The raven smiled, for the first time since he’d jumped into the lava after Charlie, he smiled. He quickly opened the book, finding jumbled words and scribbled out phrases. In his excitement he ran out to the library, promising he’d be back and that he’d figure it out.

LEGACY written in big bold letters was the only thing he could focus on as he sprinted back towards the cave.

“Charlie I figured out the boo-“ He shouted as he ran into the cave, stopping as darkness enveloped his vision. “Charlie?” He cried as he fell to his knees in the dark cave, the book slipping out of his grasp.
