If someone had told Steve just a few days before that he would end up adopting his neighbour's child, he would have dismissed that as a bad joke. Sure, he had been spending more and more time taking care of Peter since his aunt had fallen ill, but that didn't mean he was going to do something that drastic.
But then again, if someone had told him he would be forced to look for a new job and end up meeting Tony Stark in a broken elevator precisely because of that... Well, he would have laughed.
Yet, that's exactly what happened.
