Work Text:
Luz gave a smirk over her cards. “Do you have any threes?”
Willow looked over her hand and shook her head. “Go hunting.”
Luz laughed as she reached for a card from the deck. “No, it’s ‘Go fish’, remember?”
Willow giggled. “Right, sorry, but this human game is similar to ‘Go hunting’. Although I do like you how the cards don’t try to bite you when you take one from the deck.”
“I can’t help but agree,” Luz said as he put the card in her hand. “Although, this game is more fun with more players.”
“I’ll bet,” Willow said.
Gus would love to learn Luz’s human game, but he was currently visiting his grandmother with his dad. Amity probably would have been up for it too, but it was her day for volunteering at the library.
“Luz,” King’s head called as he poked his head inside. “Do you have any extra glitter for my fort?”
“Sure,” Luz said as she pointed to her bag. “Help yourself, you little glitter fiend.”
“Excellent!” King declared as he dived into Luz’s bag and pulled out a large jar. “Back in a bit once I finish my warning signs!”
Willow watched him go before she raised an eyebrow and turned to Luz.
“Fort?” she asked.
“I told King about how when I was a kid I made myself a fort in my backyard and it gave him the idea to build himself one.”
Willow tilted her head as she pointed over her shoulder. “Wait, do you mean those piles of boxes and wood in the backyard?
Luz rubbed her neck. “Yeah, he kind of rushed his blueprints a bit, but he looks so happy doing it. I didn’t have the heart to correct him.”
Willow giggled. Luz was a softie for King, but truthfully, Willow was the same.
“Girls, can you come down!” Eda called out. “I got Willow’s Dads on the Crystal Ball.”
Willow exchanged a baffled frown with Luz as they went downstairs.
Weird, I’m not due to be home for a few more hours, Willow thought. Why are they calling?
The girls headed downstairs.
Eda was sitting at the couch looking into her crystal ball. King was nowhere in sight, likely still outside, and Hunter was sitting in the chair. He glanced up, spotted the girls and quickly returned his gaze back to the crystal ball.
It was likely Willow’s imagination, but he seemed to blush a little.
Willow approached the crystal ball and saw both of her fathers. Her papa was cleaning his glasses, while her dad was standing next to him as he tugged at his beard.
Uh oh, he’s worried, Willow thought. Her dad always tugged her beard when he was worried.
“Hi, Mister and Mister Park,” Luz greeted with a wave. “What’s up?”
“We just got a weather warning,” Papa said as he put his glasses back on. “A boiling rainstorm is coming.”
“Okay,” Luz said with a shrug. “What’s the big deal? We’ve dealt with boiling rain before.”
“Except this is likely to be a level 2 boiling rainstorm,” Hunter replied.
Luz tilted her head. “What’s a level 2?”
“Boiling rain and fire hail,” Eda explained.
Luz blinked and looked at Willow. “I assume that means the hail are small balls of fire?”
“You would be correct,” Willow said with a half smile.
Luz sighed as she crossed her arms. “Boiling Isles you will forever know how to throw me for a loop.”
Willow patted her shoulder and looked at her dads. “When is it supposed to come?”
“Not sure,” her dad said as he crossed his arms. “It could come at any moment.”
“Oh, wow,” Willow said as her eyes widened and glanced at her friend. “Sorry, Luz I better get going-”
Her papa held up his hand. “Actually, Sweetie, your dad and I thought it would be safer for you to just stay put for the night.”
Her dad nodded. “We don’t want to risk you getting caught in it on the way home, and that’s why we called to ask if you could stay there.”
“And like I told them,it's no problem,” Eda said with a grin. “I was honestly going to offer anyway once I heard about it.”
“Oh, uh, okay,” Willow said with a smile as she looked at her fathers. “How long is the storm expected to last?”
“Just until early morning,” her dad said and suddenly narrowed his eyes at Eda. “With that said, we would appreciate it if you didn’t teach Willow any more ‘bad habits’.”
Eda placed her hands on her hips. “Bad habits? Like what?”
“Like how to pick locks.”
“That’s not a bad habit, that’s a life skill!” She pointed over her shoulder. “Willow’s a natural for it!”
Willow giggled and blushed. She wouldn’t say she was a ‘natural’. She was likely only good at it because she was used to having to be delicate when pruning her griffin hair plants at home.
Her papa smirked at her dad. “It did come in handy when we got locked out of our house, dear.”
Her dad coughed into his hand. “Yes, well- err, we better go and get the house ready.”
Her papa smiled and waved to Willow. “Talk to you in the morning, Sweetheart. Just stay safe, okay?”
“I will,” Willow said. “Love you!”
“You too,” both of her fathers said in unison before they ended the call and the crystal ball became empty.
“Woo,” Luz cheered as she wrapped an arm around Willow’s shoulders. “Sleepover!”
“You know this isn’t a good thing right?” Hunter asked with a raised eyebrow as he stood up. “Boiling rainstorms are dangerous. We need to gather supplies, check our defenses, prepare-”
Eda ruffled Hunter’s hair. “Relax, Kiddo, we got this. This isn’t our first boiling rain. We just got to prepare the house and then we can relax and we wait out the storm.”
Hunter pouted as he fixed his hair. “I have never heard of ‘relaxing’ during a boiling rain.”
“First time for everything,” Luz said and grinned. “Hey, once we’re done, want to join Willow and I in a game of ‘Go Fish’ later?”
Hunter paused, glanced at Willow and rubbed his neck. “Um..no, sorry, but I uh...got some reading to catch up on.”
Luz gave a pout, but nodded. “Oh, uh, okay.”
Willow frowned, but kept the thoughts that were brewing under the lid. Now was not the time to ponder it.
“Alright, kids, we got no time to waste,” Eda said as she pointed over her shoulder. “Luz go get some glyphs ready to set up a force field for the house. I’ll join you once I tell King he needs to come inside before the storm starts. Hunter, I need you to check over the house with Hooty for any possible leaks.”
“Roger that!” Luz said with a salute.
Hunter blinked. “Who’s roger?”
“It’s a human expression,” Willow replied with a smile. “Luz confused it with me too once.”
Hunter glanced at Willow, blushed again and coughed as he looked at the window ahead.
“Oh, uh, right, got it.” He pointed. “I’m going to start inspecting the house.”
Willow gave another frown as he walked away, but again ignored the thoughts as she turned to Eda. It had to be her imagination.
“What do you want me to do?” Willow asked.
“How about you check over our medical supplies,” Eda said as she patted Willow’s shoulder. “I’m fairly certain we have everything, but it never hurts to check.”
“On it,” Willow said as she rolled up her sleeves. “Where are they kept?”
“Follow me,” Luz said as she pointed upstairs. “I need to head up there to get more paper for the glyphs anyway.”
Willow followed, but not before stealing one more glance at Hunter before they headed up the stairs.
Once Luz pointed Willow to the cabinet where the medical supplies were kept, they worked quietly for a few minutes.
After Luz had drawn a few glyphs she gathered them up but walked over to Willow.
“Hey,” Luz said as she rubbed her arms, “mind if I ask something?”
Willow adjusted her glasses as she finished checking the amount of bandages. “What’s on your mind?”
Luz clicked her tongue. “Well, maybe it’s just me, but does it feel like Hunter has been..well…”
“Avoiding me?” Willow asked.
Luz blinked and frowned. “So, it’s not just me.”
Willow sighed as she picked up one of the bottles of ointment. “I was hoping I was just imagining things.”
Luz frowned as she hugged her glyphs. “Why is that though? I know you two haven’t known each other that long, but he and Gus seem to get along pretty well.”
Willow had noticed that too. If Willow and Gus were both over Hunter would usually leave, but from the odd times he did stay he was usually off in a corner chatting with Gus. He even began talking to Amity a few times.
However, the talks he had with Willow were either short and concise, or Hunter would suddenly have a chore to do and leave.
Willow wasn’t quite insulted by the gesture, but she couldn’t deny it left her unfazed either.
Although, deep down she only had herself to blame.
“Maybe I just make him uncomfortable,” Willow said as she put down the bottle.
“No way,” Luz cried. “You are the most easy going person I know!”
Willow chewed her bottom lip. “Normally, yeah...but…”
Luz raised an eyebrow. “But what? Did something happen?”
Willow rubbed her arms and sighed. “I might have started things off on the wrong foot with Hunter.”
“What do you mean?” Luz asked. “You seemed fine when I introduced you two.”
“Yes,” Willow said as she blushed. “But once we were in the kitchen I may have kind of,” she gave a nervous laugh, “threatened him with a butter knife while I pinned him to a wall.”
Luz’s jaw dropped. “You what?”
Willow groaned as she buried her face into her hands. “I was just worried he might hurt you, or Eda or King and I wanted to make it clear to him I would make him regret it if he ever did.”
Willow felt fully justified at the time, but now she wasn’t so certain. Hunter didn’t seem like a threat and he seemed to care about everyone in the Owl House. It made Willow worry that rather than being a protector of her friends, in the end, she had just been a bully.
“Oh,” Luz said quietly and tilted her head. “Is that all?”
Willow blinked in shock. “What do you mean ‘is that all’?”
Luz gave a laugh. “It’s just that Amity did a similar thing, although in her case she had summoned an abomination to stand behind her and punch into it’s own fist while she did it.”
Willow blinked and snorted. “Yeah, that sounds like something Amity would do.”
Luz laughed as she blushed. “Yeah, I know she just wanted to protect me,” she shook her head, “but even she is getting along with Hunter. So, I can’t see that being the reason he’s avoiding you.”
“I don’t know,” Willow said doubtfully.
She wanted to believe Luz, but that didn’t explain how Hunter had been around her.
“Maybe you should try talking to him?” Luz asked.
Willow frowned, but nodded. “Yeah, I probably should.”
Her dad always said it was best to face your problems head on otherwise it will just grow and become more of a mess.
“Luz!” Eda called out. “Got some of those glyphs ready? We should really get those shield casts.”
“Coming,” Luz called back as she dashed out of the room. “Don’t worry, Willow! I’m sure everything will be fine!”
Willow forced a smile as she waved, but dropped it once Luz vanished.
“I wish I was as confident as you were,” she muttered.
Once she finished, Willow shut the cabinet and looked out the window.
Dark clouds were gathering in the sky. It likely wouldn’t be long now until the rainstorm starts.
At least we’re all safe inside, Willow thought. Maybe I’ll go make some tea. I always love a cup of tea when it’s rain-
She forgot her train of thought. Her eyes had just landed onto King outside who had just crawled inside his fort.
King! What’s he still doing out there?! Willow dashed out of the room, down the stairs and ran outside.
She still didn’t stop running until she reached the fort.
“King,” she called out as she pulled back the blanket and looked inside.
King was finishing applying some kind of dark colored taped onto the walls.
“Oh, hey, Willow,” he said with a wave. “Almost done here!”
“What are you doing?” Willow said as she bent to her knees and crawled inside. “You should be inside. The storm is going to start any minute.”
“I know, but I had to make sure my fort wasn’t going to destroyed by the boiling rain and fire balls,” King said as he applied more of the tape.
Willow raised an eyebrow as she crossed her arms. “And how are you doing that?”
“By using this material that humans use to protect their houses.”
“And that would be?”
“Duck tape!” King held up a large box. “There was a ton of this stuff in Eda’s storage and Gus swears humans use this as building material all the time.”
Willow sighed as she pinched the bridge of her nose.
Willow didn’t know much about the human world, but she had a feeling that’s not what it was for.
“With that said, I just finished,” King said as he walked up to Willow. “So, I’m ready to head inside.”
Willow sighed and made sure she was smiling. “Good because the last thing we want is to-”
A thunder boom rang out.
Full of dread, Willow turned as she and King heard the falling of rain. She pulled back the blanket and cringed as she spotted the boiling rain begin it’s downpour.
“Oh no,” she muttered.
King rubbed his neck. “Sorry,” he muttered, but then raised his arms, “but we should be safe in here. We can just wait for Eda to notice and she’ll-”
“Do you smell something burning?” Willow asked.
They both glanced up and froze. The boiling rain was starting to burn through the cardboard and duct tape.
King yelped. “No, Gus! Why would you lie to your king?!”
Willow scooped up King and turned. “Okay, we got to go now.”
She lifted up the blanket and froze.
The rain had speedily picked up and she even spotted a couple of fire balls starting to appear.
“What’s wrong?” King asked.
“We’re not super close to the house, if we run out there now we’re definitely going to get burned,” Willow said as she let the blanket door drop from her hands.
King quivered in her arms. “Can’t you cast a small forcefield to shield us?”
“That’s a hard spell, King and I just learned it,” Willow explained as she hugged him. “I only know to cover the top of my head.”
Which meant, Willow’s head would be protected, but not the rest of her body. Never mind she wouldn’t be able to shield King from it.
King’s tail twitched nervously. “So, what do we do?”
Willow chewed her bottom lip.
She could summon plants to cover their path, but they wouldn’t last long. The rain would burn through the leaves before they reached the house and that was assuming one of the fireballs didn’t set them on fire beforehand.
The cardboard was fizzing and Willow could see some of the boiling rain beginning to get inside.
A drop landed near them.
“Ack!” King screamed as he clung to Willow.
Willow narrowed her eyes as she began to cast a spell. She would just have to cast a small force field to protect King and run for it. If she was fast enough maybe she wouldn’t-
Suddenly, the blanket door moved.
King yelped as a figure appeared. Willow got ready to punch the intruder until she saw the face.
“HUNTER?!” she called.
Panic stricken, Hunter adjusted the thick blanket he had over his head. “You guys okay?”
“Yea, but not for long,” King said as he pointed above and more raindrops began to leak through.
Hunter frowned as he rose and gestured to himself.
“Get under me,” he ordered. “The blanket should be able to cover all of us.”
Willow didn’t argue.
She bolted out of the fort. Hunter held the blanket above them like an umbrella as he got behind Willow.
They sprinted to the house. Willow could smell the blanket burning as they ran.
“Get in! Get in!” Hooty called as he held the door open for them and slammed it shut as they were inside.
Willow collapsed to the floor as King flopped from her arms. She breathed heavily as Luz raced over.
“Are you guys okay?” she asked.
Willow checked herself over. No burns and sighed with relief as she saw King was the same.
“Yeah, I think so,” she said.
Eda placed her hands on her hips. “I’m glad you’re alright, but King what were you doing out there? I told you to come inside.”
King sheepishly stared at his feet. “I know, I was just trying to make sure my fort was safe. I’m sorry.”
Eda sighed and patted his head. “We can help you rebuild, but the ones you should be apologizing to are Willow and Hunter.”
“How did you guys even know King was still outside?” Luz asked.
“I had spotted King from the window upstairs,” Willow explained and looked to her right, “but I don’t know about Hunter.”
Hunter grimaced as he rubbed his neck. “Hooty and I were patching a window when I saw you go outside and then the rain started. So, I grabbed an old wool blanket for cover and went outside to get you.”
He hissed in pain as he continued to rub his neck.
Willow frowned as she stood up. “Hunter, are you okay?”
He waved a hand at them. “Yeah, I’m fine,” he said as he hissed in pain. “I just got a burn.”
Willow’s jaw dropped. Hunter had gotten burned? When they were all under the blanket. She then glanced over to the blanket that Hunter had tossed to the floor and spotted small holes the rain had burned through.
Her brain suddenly put the pieces together. King didn’t get burned because Willow had been shielding him and Willow hadn’t because Hunter had been covering her with his own body as they ran.
Which meant the only cover Hunter had was the blanket, which had likely gotten burned through when he had sprinted out there in the first place.
Eda frowned, marched over and gently lifted Hunter’s hand. “Hmm...doesn’t look like a second degree burn, but it’s nothing to snuff at.”
“I’ve had worse,” Hunter retorted.
“Doesn’t mean this one should be ignored, kiddo,” Eda said and glanced at Willow. “Mind getting the first aid kit?”
“S-sure,” Willow said as she went to get it as her mind drifted back to the burned blanket.
------------------------------
Once Willow had brought back the kit, it didn’t take long to attend to Hunter’s burn. Afterwards, he went to his room.
Willow debated on what she should do next and eventually she found herself bringing a cup of tea to Hunter’s room. She would have knocked, but the door was opened as she heard both Hunter and King’s voices from inside.
“And this is Lenoard,” King said as he held a stuffed bear. “He’s cranky, but he’s also good to have around when you’re hurt.”
Hunter gave a warm smile. “Okay, thanks King, I’m sure he’ll be useful.”
King then glanced down at his feet. “I am sorry, Hunter. Last thing I wanted was for anyone to get hurt.”
“It’s not your fault, you didn’t know” Hunter replied as he patted King. “Although, I am going to give Gus an earful on what is actually considered proper building material.”
Willow cleared her throat which grabbed the boys’ attention instantly.
She held up the tea cup. “I thought Hunter might like a cup of tea,” she said and winked at King. “Also, Luz got some cookies out for you King.”
“Yyeess,” King declared as she raced off and glanced back at Hunter. “I’ll bring you some cookies later. It’s scientifically proven that sugar always helps with healing.”
“I doubt the evidence on that, but okay,” Hunter said as King raced off.
Willow then held up the cup. “Luz said you like your tea black so I didn’t add any milk.”
“Um, thanks,” Hunter said as he took it and sipped.
Willow rubbed her arm. “And I wanted to say thank you for saving me, I hadn’t even realized you had gotten burned. I’m so sorry you got hurt for my sake.”
Hunter shook his head. “Don’t worry about it. Like I told Eda I’ve had worse.” Hunter gave a shrug. “It’s not compared to some of the burns I would get when training in the boiling rain.”
Willow froze as her eyes widened in horror. “You trained in the boiling rain? Why?”
“Belos’s orders,” Hunter replied with a sigh. “We had to be prepared for anything and in any weather.”
“I see,” Willow muttered darkly.
In her mind Boscha was always on top of the list of people Willow would like to take on in a fight. For the first time, Boscha got knocked down to number 2 while Emperor Belos took the number 1 spot. She briefly wondered if Boscha would be insulted to learn that.
Willow then took a moment to glance around Hunter’s room. It was her first time actually visiting it and despite it being a couple of months since Hunter moved in, it was strangely sparse.
There was a bed that consisted of one of those human sleeping bags Luz had, some pillows, but not much.
She spotted his cardinal napping in a small nest with Clover snuggled up against him.
So, that’s where you’ve been, you little sneak, Willow thought. She knew Clover liked to sneak off while in the Owl House and the boiling rain always made Clover dozy. Never occurred to her that Clover came to snooze with Hunter’s cardinal.
There were also a couple of maps on the walls, but that was it.
She then spotted King’s bear sitting against the window right next to a stuffed frog. Willow’s eyes lit up instantly.
“Aww, this is adorable,” Willing exclaimed as she picked up and hugged the toy. “Where did King get this? It’s so cute.”
To Willow’s surprise, Hunter blushed. “Um..that’s mine...actually.”
For a second, Willow assumed Hunter was joking, but then saw how red his cheeks were.
“Oh, sorry,” Willow said quickly and handed the frog doll to him. “I..guess I didn’t think you liked cute stuff like this.”
“I don’t,” Hunter insisted, but his cardinal tweeted from his nest and Hunter sighed.
“Okay, yeah I do, but I don’t go collecting it often.” He set the doll aside. “I only got that as a gift from someone as a kid, but can’t remember who. It was a long time ago and it’s one of the few things I managed to grab when I left the Emperor’s Coven.”
“That had to have been hard,” Willow said as she sat next to him on the window ledge.
“I’m just lucky I was able to get away,” Hunter said with a slight shiver. “I don’t like to think what would have happened if I stayed.”
Willow frowned. Luz had never told her the full details of why Hunter fled, and she didn’t feel like now was the time to pry.
She chewed her bottom lip, took a deep breath and looked up. “Hunter, I want to apologize.”
Hunter sighed. “I already said it wasn’t your fault-”
“I’m not talking about the boiling rain,” she said as she gently patted his hand. “I’ve noticed since we’ve met you’ve been avoiding me.”
Hunter blushed and looked away. “Um yeah, I-”
“And I know it’s my fault for well..threatening you with a butter knife,” Willow continued and ran her hands over her hair. “I’m sorry, that was taking it too far, but Luz is such an important friend to me and I just wanted to make sure she was safe. I shouldn’t have jumped to conclusions.”
Hunter blinked and tilted his head in confusion. “But..you were fully justified.”
Willow frowned as she glanced up. “What?”
“You barely knew me and you were just trying to keep your friends safe,” Hunter said with a firm nod. “I wasn’t offended at all by it.”
Willow raised an eyebrow. “Then..why have you been avoiding me?”
Hunter blushed as he raised his hand, lowered it and gave a deep sigh as he buried his face into his hands. “I’m bad at people.”
“Huh?” Willow asked.
“At least that’s how Luz puts it,” Hunter said as he glanced up. “I didn’t know how I should act around you and I assumed that constantly being around you would only upset you.”
“So you were trying to give me space?” Willow asked.
“I guess,” Hunter sighed. “I don’t know, I probably should have tried to talk with you more but I didn’t want you to hate me.” He glanced at the window. “Like I said you had every right to be suspicious of me and I have done bad things in the past.”
Willow’s eyes softened as she patted his shoulder. “But you thought you were doing the right thing, right?”
Hunter stared at his hands. “I thought I was helping my uncle,” he fiddled with the bandage on his neck. “Never occurred to me that he was just using me or that how I was helping him was hurting others until I met Luz.”
Willow gently removed his hand. “Don’t play with it, but I know what you mean.” She gave a small laugh. “Luz has that reaction from people.”
Hunter gave a small smile in return. “Yeah, but I don’t know what to exactly do from here.”
Willow stood up. “Well. I think first things first, you and I need to start over,” she said. “Hi, I’m Willow Parks.”
Hunter blinked at the hand, but then slowly grabbed it. “Hi, I’m Hunter, also formally the Golden Guard.”
Willow shook it. “Nice to meet you, I hope you and I can be good friends from now on.”
Hunter gave a small smile. “I-I would really like that.”
Willow blushed and wondered why her heart was beating a bit faster.
“Oooooh!”
Both of them whirled around as Hooty poked his head into the room. “I can see the start of something roman-”
Hunter swiftly tackled and shoved Hooty out of the room. “Nope, nope you are not ruining this!”
Hooty grunted. “You can deny it, but the Hooty heart knows!”
Hunter growled. “I should get some of that duck tape to seal your mouth.”
Willow laughed as she wondered why she was blushing.
----------------------------------------------------------
The rest of the sleepover was fun. Hunter did end up joining Willow and Luz for some rounds of Go Fish. He seemed a bit baffled by the rules at first, but it wasn’t long before he got the hang of it.
Then King joined in the game and sat in Luz’s lap. However, later when Luz suggested she read out of one of her Azura’s books, for whatever reason he crawled into Hunter’s lap.
He likely had done it before since Hutner didn’t seem surprised by it. However, he did seem startled when both his cardinal and Clover decided to use his shoulders as a perch.
To his credit, Hunter just seemed to accept his fate and didn’t say a word about it. It took all of Willow’s strength to not giggle. It didn’t help matters that King and Hunter dozed off not long after Luz reached chapter three.
Willow never thought someone could look so cute with a small demon and two palismans on them. She couldn’t resist snagging a photo.
In the morning, after breakfast, Willow had to head home with Luz tagging along. Luz had suggested Hunter come along too, but he had wanted to check the house for any damages from the storm with Eda.
They could have flown on Willow’s staff, but it was harder to talk and Willow was in the mood to chat.
“Wasn’t it cute when both his cardinal and Clover landed on his shoulder?” Willow asked.
Luz laughed. “Yeah, it was.”
“And did you know that Hunter has a cute frog plushie?” Willow asked.
Luz nodded. “Oh, yeah, I’ve seen it.”
“He even admitted he likes cute things,” Willow continued, “we should try to find more things for him.”
“Um sure, but why?”
“Because his room is so bare,” she grabbed her chin. “Has he ever mentioned what scents he likes? I might have some plants I can give him.”
“Um…”
“Oh, we might be able to get some books for him too,” Willow continued and giggled. “I actually know these really interesting books about swamp frogs-” she stopped as she noticed Luz staring at her.
She raised an eyebrow. “What?”
Luz gave a sly smile, but waved her hands. “No, it’s nothing.”
“But?” Willow asked with a raised eyebrow.
Luz gave a cheeky grin. “It’s just that, you remember when I first started to have a crush on Amity and you teased me how I couldn’t stop talking about her.”
“Yeah, but what does that have to do with…” She trailed off as her eyes widened. “Wait, no, Luz this is completely different.”
“Yeah, of course it is,” Luz replied with a firm nod.
“I’m just talking a lot about Hunter because I’m finally getting to know him,” Willow continued. “I’m not crushing on him.”
Luz laughed as they walked. “You’re right, I was just teasing. I mean, I didn’t know I had a crush until I realized that I was thinking about Amity almost all the time. I’m sure that’s not the case for you.”
“Exactly,” Willow said with a smile. “I’m certain I won’t even have him on my mind by the end of the day.”
However, by the time she went to bed that night she was still thinking about Hunter. Willow didn’t understand why.
I mean sure he is kinder than he lets on, and is brave, she thought. Also he’s rather cute when he’s embarrassed and he has a sweet smile.
Willow’s mind halted at that last thought.
She paused, rolled and grumbled into her pillow. “Aw, farts.”
