After the race he meets with the Toydarian junk dealer for his parts and the Skywalker family's freedom, sends the parts back to the ship with the handmaiden and gungan, then he returns to the small apartment shared by the Skywalker duo. Half way there he meets Anakin. He hands the boy the credits from selling his pod racer and together they go back to the house. They enter and see his mother at her desk working on a scanner. Anakin bounds over to her and shoves the money into her hands. Shmi is ecstatic at the large pile of credits and joyously celebrates with him. After a moment he quietly clears his throat, bringing attention to him.
"Anakin has been freed." he tells the mother and son. At the news both are glowing with joy. He smiles as Anakin races off to his room. He turns back to Shmi, only to notice she's sliently crying. He comes to stand in front of her but she does not look up to him.
"What's wrong my love?" he asks as he gently pulls her up to stand with him. When Shmi doesn't respond he brings a hand from her waist tp tilt her head up.
"He is freed and I am not." she explains, tears stopping almost completely, "I don't want to separated from him. He's all I have." Tears once again rain down from her face.
"Oh my love, no. Anakin has been freed, as have you. You're both free my heart." he promises, "You're free."
Shmi looks at him in shock, "What" she asks. Taking his thumb he brushes away tears from her left cheek. "You're free my love. You're free." he promises again.
She looks at him for a moment before fresh tears spring from her eyes. He brings her to his chest and wraps her in a tight hug as her cries. With one hand on her head and the other slowly rubbing up and down her back, he cradles her as she cries. He stays like that, curling her body into his as he brushes a thumb across her hair. It takes some time but her tears quiet and then stop all together. They stand there a moment longer, he cradling her to his body. Eventually she pulls herself from his grasp.
He helps the family pack their belongings. When they finish Anakin helps him load their items on to an Eopies. Before he goes to the ship he pulls Shmi into one more hug. They stand there for a long moment. He gives her another kiss before they break and he climbs onto the animal, leaving the duo to say their goodbyes.
When he returns Shmi and Anakin are standing at the edge of the settlement, not quite crossing the boundary line. He barely stops himself from running to them. He ruffles Anakin's hair and shares a kiss with Shmi.
Shmi picks up the nine year old boy and settles him on her hip, before turning to him. He takes her hand and they start across the sands towards the ship taking them away from Tatooine.
